For a show so procedural in nature, NCIS is rarely about the investigation itself, instead drawing strength from the team members, their interactions and their lives. Once in awhile, though, there's a case so powerful that it leaves a lasting impression on viewers and the special agents alike.
Needless to say, the disappearance of Marine Lt. Gabriela Flores was one such case.
Leave no man or woman behind.
Marines uphold this code at any cost, and from the moment Gibbs and Ziva arrived in Afghanistan, the question wasn't whether Flores would be returned to her father, but whether she would be brought back in a casket or alive.
The action-packed Part II of "Engaged" was every bit as outstanding as the first, a wonderful tribute to the men and women (particularly the latter) of the U.S. Marine Corps - strong, equal, able and loyal.

'NCIS' (Tue., 8Pm Et on CBS) continued its powerful tribute to the Us Marines with this second half of a two-parter that saw Gibbs and Ziva heading to Afghanistan to bring back a Marine left behind. The episode showed the strengh and unity of the Corps, regardless of gender.
It was a beautiful thing to watch, and further proof why 'NCIS' stands in a league of its own compared to other procedurals on the air. With as much care and emphasis on its character than its cases, the writers and creative team know how to tell a story and make you care.
We wanted to see Lt. Gabriela Flores returned to her father alive and well just as much as Gibbs did. If we were to get a true military-based dramatic series, following our men and women in the armed forces across the globe where the danger is,...

Tonight on NCIS, we pick up where we left off last week (read our review and Round Table from Part I of "Engaged") and find Gibbs and Ziva continuing the search for missing Marine Lt. Gabriela Flores.
Traveling to her last known whereabouts in Afghanistan and visiting with her unit commander, they learn what an uphill battle they face in bringing her back alive, but do receive a bit of encouraging news.
Meanwhile, Chaplain Burke helps Tony face his greatest fear head on ... but what is that?
Check out two clips from Part II of "Engaged" below and see if you can guess ...

After this week's powerful episode (see TV Fanatic's NCIS review), Gibbs and the team continue to investigate the disappearance of a U.S. Marine Lieutenant after a school bombing in Afghanistan.
Leave no one behind. The story of Gabriela Flores clearly moved our man, a former Marine himself, and the NCIS team will be very much in harm's way Tuesday as they search for her abductors.
The episode is likely to conjure up memories of the last time Gibbs ventured to that war-torn region of the world, rescuing Ziva in the seventh season premiere. This time, she'll be along for the ride.
While Gibbs and Ziva travel to Flores' last known whereabouts near Kandahar, he forced to relive events from his past, which we saw glimpses of this week. Also, Tony reveals his deepest fears.

NCIS can be so much fun some weeks, it's sometimes easy to forget the seriousness of the jobs these special agents hold, and the sacrifice of the men and women their investigations revolve around.
Not tonight. The team grappled with a mystery that was, as Dinozzo put it, not your case du jour. For the proud members of the U.S. Marine Corps, life makes that collect call every single day.
Part I of "Engaged" was a compelling, emotionally weighty episode from beginning to end, a story moving enough to send chills up your spine even when the action on screen was minimal.
The disappearance of Gabriela Flores, an exemplary Marine by all accounts, and an even more tremendous human being, clearly hit close to home for the team, and Jethro Gibbs in particular.

U.S. Marine Gabriela Flores was at the heart of the investigation on this week's episode of 'NCIS' (Tue., 8Pm Et on CBS). After an attack, Flores was presumed dead, but without DNA evidence to confirm it, there was some uncertainty. Gibbs was determined to give her father the closure he needed by finding out for sure what happened.
We learned a little about Jethro Gibbs' background this week as Mark Harmon's son Sean stepped in to play a younger version of his dad during his early days as a Marine. Sean did a fantastic job of capturing all those character quirks that make Gibbs unique.
