- Edward Flanagan was born on July 13, 1886 in Leabeg, County Roscommon, Ireland. He is known for Die Stimme Österreichs (1949) and The City of Little Men (1938). He died on May 15, 1948 in Berlin, Germany.
- Founder of Boys Town, which began in 1917 as Father Flanagan's Home for Boys in Omaha, Nebraska, as a haven for wayward, homeless, and neglected boys.
