“The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle” executive producer Scott Fellows knew a voice was missing when the casting team replayed the audition tapes for the show’s titular flying squirrel. “Where’s Tara Strong?” he asked.
Strong had submitted voice auditions twice for the character of Rocky — once for the initial call, which proved unsuccessful, and another when her agent told her Rocky would be recast. Until Fellows inquired, casting agents had pushed her auditions aside. But upon hearing her tape, they immediately changed their minds.
“This is no fault of any studio, but a lot of times they say, ‘Oh that actor’s on everything, so let’s try new blood,'” Strong tells Variety. “Which truthfully is silly because voice actors who work all the time do so because they’re versatile, and sometimes you have no idea it’s that person.”

They partnered on the concept and even tried unsuccessfully to pitch it to various networks and cable stations. Seems after that didn’t work out, Straiton dropped the project to move on to other things. Fellows, according to today’s complaint of constructive fraud,...

Nickelodeon has made a grown-up decision.
The kids channel has greenlighted a live-action/CG adaptation of its hit toon "The Fairly OddParents," starring Drake Bell ("Drake and Josh") as a twentysomething Timmy Turner who's still in the fifth grade because "Da Rules" dictate that godchildren lose their fairies when they grow up.
Set to premiere next year, "A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner!" also stars Daniella Monet as Tootie, Jason Alexander as Cosmo, Cheryl Hines as Wanda and Steven Weber as Hugh J. Magnate. Savage Steve Holland directs a script by "OddParents" creator Butch Hartman and Scott Fellows ("Big Time Rush"), a former writer for the series.
"It's so much fun to see our animated characters come to life," said Marjorie Cohn, president of original programming and development at Nickelodeon/Mtvn Kids and Family Group. "And who better to bring grown up Timmy Turner to life than Drake Bell,...

Nickelodeon is having a busy October, handing out pilot orders to four live-action projects and picking up additional episodes of its comedy series "Just Jordan".
The projects receiving pilot pickups are the action-comedy "The Troop", the comedies "The Norton Avenue All-Stars" and "True Fashion" and the music-centric comedy "One 4 All".
"Troop", described as "Ghostbusters" meets "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", revolves around kids who protect the world from supernatural creatures. The project, from the Tom Lynch Co. (Nickelodeon's "Romeo!"), is created and exec produced by writer-director Greg Coolidge and writers Chris Morgan and Max Burnett. Burnett, Morgan and Coolidge are repped by ICM, H2F Entertainment and attorney Jeff Frankel.
"All-Stars" is a comedy about a group of neighborhood best friends that's described as "The Little Rascals" meets puberty. It's from creator/exec producer Boyd Hale.
"True Fashion", described as "Project Runway" meets "Big", is from creator/exec producer Andy Gordon.
"One 4 All", a comedy about a boy band, is from creator Scott Fellows.
Marjorie Cohn, executive vp development and original programming at Nickelodeon, said it's possible that all four -- a mix of single- and multicamera projects -- could get series orders.
