In a locker room converted into a makeshift dressing room in North Augusta, South Carolina, the members of Hootie and the Blowfish are gathered in front of a TV, watching Tiger Woods tee off. It’s the beginning of Woods’ Masters comeback, and the band is invested — it played his wedding in 2004, and Woods and frontman Darius Rucker remain friends. The bandmates, golfers themselves, whoop and shout whenever Woods rolls in another birdie. Later, Rucker makes a connection between Woods’ career and the band’s. “It’s funny, the parallels in our lives and careers,...

Hootie & the Blowfish went all out for Throwback Thursday when they reunited on the Late Show with David Letterman on April 30. Members Darius Rucker, Mark Bryan, Dean Felber, and Jim Sonefeld performed their 1994 hit "Hold My Hand" and sounded exactly the same as they did more than 20 years ago when they first found fame. David introduced the band, which was formed in 1986 at the University of South Carolina, by saying they were going to perform "the song that started it all." After becoming one of the most popular bands of the '90s, producing hits like "Only Wanna Be With You" and "Hey, Hey, What Can I Do," Hootie & the Blowfish went on hiatus in 2008 so Darius could start a solo country career. The longtime friends, however, still reunite often for a good cause. The men are set to perform again in August in Charleston, Sc, for their annual Homegrown Concert,...

Darius Rucker first established himself as the lead singer of the pop-rock group Hootie and The Blowfish, but when he made his Grand Ole Opry debut almost a year ago, he earned some country credentials. Rucker recently told Gac's Backstory: Darius Rucker that he felt like he was becoming part of this family after his Opry debut.
Since his debut performance at the Opry, Rucker has emerged as one of the strongest new performers in country music. He landed in the No.1 spot with both of his singles, "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" and "It Won't Be Like This For Long." Darius says this career move is his way of saying to country music that he is here as long as they want to listen to him play.
