A recent story on Inside Edition showed up on the Internet about Elwood Edwards, the man who recorded the voice for AOL – “You’ve got mail!” As the story goes, he now drives for Uber, is 67, and was paid $200 for his now famous voice and audio clip. He did it as a favor for his wife, who at the time worked for AOL. With the intention of being fair and balanced, two views of this short story will be offered for your consideration. One of the two is likely to annoy you, but it may be an indicator

You would think one of the '90s most iconic voices would be doing pretty well for himself! While I don't know the current financial state of former AOL voice man Elwood Edwards, I do know that he is driving an Uber in Ohio. If I remember from a post I did about this guy not too long ago, he didn't make much money from his recorded lines and got the job because his wife worked for the company and he happened to work in the broadcasting business.
Supposedly Elwood drives for Uber in the Cleveland, Ohio, area so if you're ever in the city, try to find him for a ride!

For years, I thought the voice telling me I had new e-mail was a computer talking to me! Now Great Big Story tells me that Elwood Edwards was a professional voice actor whose wife worked for the company that would become America Online. Talk about a lucky break — or so you would think. Edwards was never able to find work (outside of an appearance on The Simpsons) after doing the lines heard by around 30+ million people every day in the '90s. Hear his story below.
