Pixels actor Josh Gad has hatched a new weight-loss comedy over at Paramount Pictures. Entitled Heavy Duty, the concept is said to be based on Gad’s own idea, with a screenplay now in the works from Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit (1600 Penn, Super Fun Night).
Revolving around the story of Josh Gad’s Average Joe, Heavy Duty has our rotund character enroll for a dramatic weight scheme, believing that shedding a few pounds will help him lead a much more exciting and extraordinary life. But Gad’s protagonist soon finds that he’s out of his depth when he’s left facing an unexpected test alongside his fellow, plump underachievers.
Gaining the backing of Disruption Entertainment, Gad’s feature will be produced by Mary Parent and Cale Boyter on behalf of the company, while Drew Pearce (Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, Iron Man 3) is attached to executive produce. No...

For a while now, the fact that WWE Studios even existed has been a running joke for those who follow the movie business. It looks like that just might change, as Josh Gad is in the middle of bringing the story of "Gorgeous" George Raymond Wagner to the big screen. Variety has the scoop that Gad has wrapped production on Beauty And The Beast, and between now and his start date for Russ And Roger Go Beyond, it looks like he's working with writing partner Ryan Dixon to craft the biopic in the interim. Simply titled Gorgeous George, the films sounds like a cradle to the grave biopic that runs through the life and times of the famous wrestler, who started wrestling in his teens and wrestled all the way up to 1962 . just one year before his death at age 48. What's particularly exciting about Gorgeous George isn't only the biopic...

Fresh from Pixels, just finished shooting Beauty And The Beast and about to play Roger Ebert in Russ And Roger Go Beyond, Josh Gad has still somehow found time for another gig. He and his regular collaborator Ryan Dixon will write Gorgeous George, a wrestling biopic for WWE Studios. The George of the title is George Raymond Wagner, the flambouyant character who dominated the ring in the 1940s and '50s, and was one of the first of his profession to cpitalise on the medium of television. His sense of theatrical performance was a keystone in the larger-than-life wrestling industry we're familiar with today, and he's credited as influencing the bombastic media personas of any number of celebs, sporting or otherwise: James Brown and Muhammed Ali being two in particular.“Gorgeous George was a true pioneer in television,” says Michael Luisi, President of WWE Studios. “Josh is a true talent...

It's official. Hollywood Reporter is announcing that actor Josh Gad has signed on to play the late film critic Roger Ebert in the project Russ & Roger. We first reported on this earlier in the year, and are following up with the confirmation. Stx Entertainment is developing the comedy focused around the film critic and filmmaker Russ Meyer, to be played by Will Ferrell. Michael Winterbottom will be directing, from a script by Chris Cluess. THR doesn't mention a start date, but this is the kind of news that means it's happening sooner than later. Gad has been making quite a name for himself recently (he's in Pixels, Wish I Was Here, The Wedding Ringer and the upcoming Beauty and the Beast) and this sounds like a nice score. Read on. As reported originally, Russ & Roger (originally titled Russ & Roger Go Beyond) is about the filmmaker Russ Meyer, who was a...

It's a little weird to watch a trailer for an upcoming Disney cartoon like "Planes" and hear among the characters the voice of Dane Cook. What's a typically adults-only comic like Cook doing in the G-rated world of a Disney animated feature?
Well, maybe it's not that weird. After all, the family-friendly studio has a history, going back 60 years, of casting performers from the world of grown-up entertainment in its cartoons, and most have proved they can be fun and kid-safe in fantasy worlds far from smoky nightclubs. In fact, Disney and Pixar's classic cartoons are full of unlikely voice actors -- not just blue comics but also performers cast radically against type, and even people not considered actors at all.
Cook, then, joins a distinguished list of stars you'd never have expected to find in a Disney cartoon feature, as you can see from the gallery below.

Horror fans today are spoiled. With the vast array of films available on DVD and Blu-ray via storefronts like Best Buy and Fye, online outlets like Amazon and Deep Discount, and rental/streaming services such as Netflix, there are few films that are unattainable. Virtually anything one might hear of is available some way, somewhere. But it wasn't always so...
Back at a time before disc (or VHS for that matter), the only way - and I mean the Only way - to see classic and not so classic genre pictures was on broadcast television. As a kid, I remember getting the local TV Guide and a yellow highlighter and systematically going through the listings, marking each and every show time of movies I'd heard about either from friends or ones that were obliquely mentioned in Forry Ackerman's Famous Monsters of Filmland . I would meticulously go over each entry...

[1] Poor Mater and McQueen: After a 35% Rotten Tomatoes [2] score gave Cars 2 the unhappy distinction of becoming the worst-reviewed Pixar movie of all time, it is now tracking to earn Pixar's lowest domestic gross since 1998's A Bug's Life. Read on after the jump. Though Cars 2 initially got off to a strong start, making $66 million in its first weekend, it's been losing audiences faster than Pixar movies usually do. Between its first and second weekends, Cars 2 saw a 60% drop in domestic gross -- or 52% if you include Monday, July 4 in the Independence Day weekend numbers. Either way, it's a significant drop. During this past weekend, its fourth in theaters, the film made $8.4 million, putting it on track to becoming Pixar's worst domestic box office performance since A Bug's Life -- which earned $10 million in its fourth wide-release weekend. To put things in perspective, an $8 million fourth weekend isn't bad,...

Thanks for stopping by the Mouse House once again. These next two editions will take a look back at the best trailers coming out of the Walt Disney Pictures banner. What qualifies as a strong trailer, though? In my eyes, a powerful preview is one that raises interest in the subject matter portrayed, builds excitement or intensity, and in the case of comedies, demonstrates hilarious scenes. Often, sharp editing contributes to the overall presentation of the trailer. In addition, an appropriate musical score/song in the background must complement the mood of the film or clip depicted within. For the point of showcasing the best in quality, I have limited this list to films that have been released in the past 15 years, as I believe trailers have advanced greatly in “attraction” more recently – spoilers, aside, I generally love watching trailers. On a side note, yes, Pixar is included, as these...

>> Read Part I of 10 Underrated Disney Films of All Time Here >>
Welcome back to another exciting edition of “10 Underrated Disney Films of the Past Decade,” where we explore some overlooked movies in the Disney library. Choosing only ten films from 2000-2009 was no easy task, but fortunately, Disney released many wonderful “new classics” during this period. Remember, in order for a film to qualify for this list, it needed to gross less than $100 million domestically. I chose this threshold, since $100 million was/is considered “blockbuster” status. Therefore, do not expect great entries, such as The Princess and the Frog, Freaky Friday (2003), and The Santa Clause 2 – all films I thoroughly enjoyed and showed some success in the box office, but nevertheless, exceeded $100 million in earnings.
Without any further ado, here are my picks for the #7 – #4 most underrated Disney films of the last decade.
#7 – Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)
