Christos Nikou’s sci-fi romance gets a limited theatrical release Oct. 27 before hitting the streaming platform Nov. 3. The movie centers on Anna (Buckley), who works at an institute that uses controversial technology to determine ultimate compatibility in romantic partnerships. Some people say love is a battlefield, but what if there was a scientific solution to determining your compatibility with your chosen partner? Would the results confirm your evolution from lust to emotional adoration? Could you discover if the person you’re with is better suited for someone else? Some people would prefer to remain in blissful ignorance, but in Apple TV+‘s Fingernails trailer, love gets tested, and the results could destroy even the strongest of bonds.
Christos Nikou directs Fingernails from a script he co-wrote with Stavros Raptis and Sam Steiner. The story focuses on Anna (Jessie Buckley) and Ryan (Jeremy Allen White), a couple who believe they’ve found true love, and a controversial new technology proves it. There’s just one problem. Anna is curious to know if the results are accurate. So, she takes a position at a love testing institute, where she meets Amir (Riz Ahmed), and sparks fly.

Christos Nikou’s “Fingernails” challenges the role of technology in modern love stories, with Jessie Buckley and Riz Ahmed starring as co-workers at a company that specializes in determining people’s soulmates based on their (you’re hearing this right) fingernails. The film first premiered at Telluride.
Buckley plays Anna, a new employee at the Love Institute, where the machines are housed. She starts training with senior instructor Amir (Ahmed), yet Anna is already committed to Ryan (Jeremy Allen White), and the machine has already confirmed they are a perfect match. So why is she developing feelings for Amir?

Exclusive: CAA has signed Greek director Christos Nikou, whose debut feature Apples is on sales this week in the Cannes virtual market.
French sales outfit Alpha Violet is handling international sales on the Euro co-pro, which is produced by Hercules Mavroeidis, who produced acclaimed Greek movie Attenberg and was an executive producer on Yorgos Lanthimos’s Dogtooth. CAA is repping domestic.
The off-beat dramedy, currently in post-production, follows a solitary man who confronts his severe amnesia by undergoing an experimental treatment. When “Aris” meets “Anna,” who is undergoing the same memory loss treatment, their budding relationship challenges the ideas of whether we remember what we have experienced or what we have chosen to remember.
Nikou, who has also signed with manager Jerome Duboz, previously served as an assistant director for filmmakers including Yorgos Lanthimos and Richard Linklater. He is currently developing his next project, which will mark his English-language debut.

Endeavor Independent topper Graham Taylor will run the indie film unit of the combined William Morris Endeavor Entertainment once the agency merger is complete. William Morris Independent toppers Cassian Elwes and Rena Ronson are leaving the company.
A spokesperson confirmed Wednesday that the pair will be departing along with Wmi's Emily Hirsch, who worked closely with Elwes and Ronson. A fourth staffer, Jerome Duboz, who worked as part of the Wmi team but also repped director clients such as Park Chan-wook and Alexander Aja, will stay with the merged entity.
The Endeavor team -- which in addition to Taylor includes Liesl Copland, Alexis Garcia and Mark Ankner, all of whom report to Taylor -- will remain intact, a further signal that Endeavor forces are in the driver's seat as the two agencies merge.

New York -- Like any about-to-be-married couple, Wma and Endeavor, which voted Monday to come together, now must figure out how to combine their households.
With the Festival de Cannes and its attendant market fast approaching, one question quickly rising to the fore is the fate of the talent agencies' independent film units, William Morris Independent and Endeavor Independent.
And, in a separate development Tuesday, the outlines of the combined agency's New York-based literary department began to take shape with the departure of Endeavor's Richard Abate.
Within the larger scheme of the newly announced William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, Wmi and Endeavor Independent are relatively small units -- they have barely a half-dozen staffers each -- but they are influential forces in the small world of films produced outside the studio system.

WMi co-heads Rena Ronson and Cassian Elwes announced the addition of film financing specialist and attorney Phil Alberstat, and the promotion of Jerome Duboz from WMi coordinator to agent Friday in Cannes. The appointments bring in a wealth of foreign expertise to WMi and doubles the manpower of the growing department, which packaged 23 films last year.
