Here are the coolest horror collectibles unveiled this week!
Candy Land Blu-ray from Mvd
One of last year’s indie horror standouts, Candy Land is getting a Blu-ray release on February 5 from Mvd and Roxwell Films. Special features include a commentary by director John Swab and a digital zine.
Swab writes and directs. Olivia Luccardi, Sam Quartin, Eden Brolin, Owen Campbell, Virginia Rand, Guinevere Turner, and William Baldwin star.
In her review, Meagan Navarro said “Candy Land gives a refreshing perspective through its condemnation of religion and its positioning of sex workers as protagonists. It’s a more nuanced and lived-in approach to the sleazy slasher format, and its affecting characters elevate the familiar.”

Thirty years ago this month, Milestone Media launched and the comics world listened. Hardware #1 from legendary creators Dwayne McDuffie and Denys Cowan was the company’s first book in February 1993. It was nothing less than a statement of purpose, a book about a Black genius fighting his white industrialist boss (who’s secretly a crime lord) to get pay and recognition for his inventions.
But it wasn’t until the Static Shock cartoon launched on TV in 2004 that Milestone made a broad cultural impact. “For so many of us in that generation, Static [Shock], the cartoon, was the door that opened a lot of things up,” Jordan Clark, a member of the Milestone Initiative’s inaugural class, tells Den of Geek magazine.

The Multiverse is, it seems, dying.
DC seem to be ripping up all of the Dan Didio restructuring of the DC Multiverse and returning things to closer to how they were pre-New 52, pre- Final Crisis, Pre- every Crisis. Joshua Williamson was no doubt given a blueprint as what DC Editorial wanted gone, and what they wanted changed, but how he achieved all that was probably mainly up to him and editor Paul Kaminski. So far, it’s been a wild ride. The tone, structure, and heart of all this has been absolutely spot on. It’s almost a shame we are already at issue 5, as we are now clearly approaching the endgame, and we know that this being DC, something big has yet to happen, and when it does it’ll be huge.
Don’t blow it Williamson.

DC has announced their biggest summer crossover since Dark Nights: Death Metal: Joshua Williamson and Daniel Sampere’s Dark Crisis, which will kick off with a #0 issue for Free Comic Book Day. But exactly what Dark Crisis is remains a bit of a mystery beyond some lovely teaser art and a promotional video.
Dark Crisis looks like it springs right out of Williamson’s multiversal revision from Justice League Incarnate. In the fourth issue of that series, we get a reconfigured, welded-together history of the DC Universe that slaps every crisis – from the classic Wolfman/Perez joint, through Zero Hour, Infinite Crisis, 52, Final Crisis, Multiversity, Doomsday Clock, and the Metal Wars – onto one coherent timeline. Behind all of them: The Great Darkness, the nothingness at the start of time, furious about being forced into a truce with the Light.
But where is it all going? Every Crisis ends with a massive status quo shift,...

This article contains spoilers for Superman & The Authority.
The Man of Steel of Superman & The Authority looks a little different than you might be used to. Graying at the temples, a hint of smile lines around his eyes, and a capeless outfit that looks equally ready for some serious work in a laboratory or a super-powered street fight. It’s an older, wiser, Superman, sporting a look befitting a man with a teenage son and years of experience under his belt, and he brings all the patience and wisdom that you’d expect him to have as he reaches superheroic middle age.
And while this look is a holdover from the old 5G publishing initiative, it’s about the only thing from Didio’s Superman pitch that stuck around.
“We went to this restaurant and Dan proposed this notion,” Superman & The Authority writer Grant Morrison tells us by phone. “He said,...

This book was such a natural idea, it’s a wonder it has never been pitched before. Or maybe it has, and the time wasn’t right. Former DC boss Dan Didio certainly wouldn’t have green lit this book, he hated Dick Grayson. We’ve endlessly looked at Batman and his early years, and at Bruce and his often dysfunctional relationship with the various Robin’s he has taken under his Batwing. Not so much at the very early years of Dick Grayson, that is entirely told with him as the central character, rather as the side story to Bruce’s. We know about the death of Dick’s parents, and how he came to be made Bruce’s ward and Robin, but only in a broad general sense. We haven’t really seen how Dick Grayson...

John Ridley is no stranger to telling stories. The Oscar-winning writer has spent his life weaving yarns both on the page and the screen. He’s also a lifelong comics fan and an accomplished comic book writer.
With The Other History of the DC Universe, he began reshaping one of the oldest and most seminal multiverses in the medium. As that series reaches its midpoint, he’s also just finished his first stint writing one of the most iconic heroes in the DC Comics trinity: Batman. But this isn’t your daddy’s Batman. In fact, Ridley, along with editor Ben Abernathy and artistic collaborator Nick Derington, have crafted a new vision of the Dark Knight.
In Future State: The Next Batman, Lucius Fox’s long absent son, Tim Fox, takes on the mantle. Despite the book’s futuristic setting, this is a back to basics take on the Bat,...

Ever since Crisis on Infinite Earths back in the 1980’s, I’ve always been a sucker for those big DC events featuring dozens of heroes and villains. Legends, Zero Hour, Convergence, Countdown, Infinite Crisis, and many others have come and gone before. Being honest, the story hasn’t always lived up to expectations with these events, but the novelty of throwing all these characters together usually makes up for that. I’m especially a sucker for using obscure or third banana level characters, or teaming up characters from different time periods. Hey, don’t judge me, I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Generations Shattered has had something of an odd history, coming out several months later than originally planned, due to Dan Didio’s firing and its original endpoint having to be...

The previously announced Batman miniseries from 12 Years of Slave and The Other History of the DC Universe writer John Ridley will feature a person of color in the cape and cowl and not Bruce Wayne.
As revealed in a press release, the yet-to-be-titled miniseries will star “a version of the Caped Crusader different from what many fans know and existing alongside the current Batman run by James Tynion IV and Jorge Jimenez.” That last bit seems to suggest that this new Batman will work opposite Bruce’s Dark Knight to protect Gotham.
Ridley, who is working with Batman Universe and Doom Patrol artist Nick Derington on the four-part miniseries, elaborated on his take on Batman during DC FanDome’s Legacy of the Bat panel.
“I think it’s a pretty safe bet that if I’m writing Batman, it’s probably a little better than a 47% chance he’s going...

DC Comics publisher Jim Lee has revealed that 12 Years a Slave scribe John Ridley is writing a new Batman mini-series that “will have a huge impact on the rest of the line.”
The new project was announced by Lee while talking to THR about the state of DC Comics in the wake of mass layoffs at the comic book publisher. Lee didn’t go into any further detail about the mini-series or how it’ll play into what James Tynion IV is doing on the main Batman book, Tom King and Clay Mann are planning in their Batman/Catwoman maxi-series, and Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok are about to unleash in Three Jokers. While it could just as easily be marketing hyperbole, it does sound like Ridley’s series could bring some major status quo changes to the character.

It is said that Sir Isaac Newton used his time at home during the 1655 pandemic to discover gravity and invent calculus. Fellow scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson took a different path today with his Covid-19 downtown – he examined the improbabilities of Marvel and DC superheroes.

Writer’s notes: All DC Comics references imply past events. They do not indicate any criticism or suggest answerability from current management.
I’ve built my career around what I call my Studio 54 philosophy. It’s that philosophy that I’ll use to explain how those dancing on Dan Didio’s grave do so at considerable risk.
If you have not read last week’s article, please do so. If you don’t, this is gonna read strangely.
There’s no way to say this without sounding a bit full of myself, so here goes… I’m the Master Of The Universe. Yep, call me Motu if you like, but I am indeed the Master, etc. etc.
To be the Master of anything requires intelligence, the ability to reason, and self-confidence. Believe it or not, reason and self-esteem are more critical than being smart. If I had to pick one overall,...

Big changes are going on over at DC Comics as last week saw co-publisher Dan Didio step down from his position after a decade of being in charge. It’s widely reported that Didio was fired by AT&T as part of a large-scale restructuring and it’s believed that the corporation decided to let Didio go now over concerns surrounding his big 5G relaunch event. A lot is riding on its success, apparently, potentially including the future of DC Comics itself.
Former DC artist Ethan Van Sciver shared his thoughts on Didio’s exit in a YouTube video recently and revealed some worrying intel that he’d heard from his friends in the industry. According to Van Sciver, AT&T is losing interest in comic book publishing all together and, though they will continue the multimedia DC brand across movies, TV, games and merchandise, if 5G doesn’t go as planned,...

The Marvel/DC rivalry is legendary amongst superhero fans. Over the decades, the two titans of the comic book industry have battled to be known as the best in the business. Nowadays, with their success on screen via the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s probably fair to say that Marvel is in ruder health. But could this mean that they’ll finally buy out their eternal rival? That’s what this shocking new rumor suggests.

We talk to the creators behind the next entry in the Batman: White Knight universe, Von Freeze
Klaus Janson is a legend in comics. He’s so big that he’s best known for seven different things - he’s the guy who co-created Micro in The Punisher; or the one who drew “Gothic,” one of Grant Morrison’s first and moodiest Batman stories; or the comics storytelling professor at Sva; or the guy who finished Frank Miller’s pencils on Daredevil and The Dark Knight Returns. But on everything he does, his art is immediately distinct: it’s moody and heavy in a way very few new comic artists can successfully accomplish.
One of the few who can pull it off is Sean Murphy. Murphy, who rose to fame working Morrison on Joe the Barbarian, then took off working with Scott Snyder on American Vampire, and...

The history of the DC Universe will become much more clear, as a comprehensive new timeline has been revealed.
There are big changes coming to the DC Universe. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, as DC continuity is always in flux, something recently illustrated in the pages of Doomsday Clock, which introduced the concept of a “metaverse” that allows for events of the past to shift as new stories are told. But still, superhero history can be tricky to navigate, and DC Comics is looking to clarify it all with a new timeline.
Comic book time is a historically fluid affair, operating on a “sliding scale” that allows characters to age only at the pace necessary for the story (if at all), and very few characters are tied to specific dates in history. DC Comics continuity has generally avoided “fixing” its characters to particular points of the past,...

With all the reboots, Crises and relaunches to occur over the decades, comic book continuity sure can get confusing – and DC knows this. Heck, that’s essentially why they’d put together events such as Crisis on Infinite Earths and Flashpoint so that they may start from scratch every now and then. But when people complain about certain aspects being forgotten, then we have things like Rebirth there to re-inject those familiar elements into continuity.
Still, the entirety of DC’s history must not be forgotten, and it sounds like the publisher’s newly established timeline will make sure everyone remembers the most important of occurrences and super groups. And even though Superman was the first hero to put DC on the map back in 1938, Wonder Woman is now being credited as the original superhero.
According to ComicBook.com, here’s the relevant news coming out of the DC Nation...

The Doomsday Saga sprawled across the four monthly Superman titles for the better part of a year, clearly too long to successfully adapt as part of the DC Animated Universe series of films. When The Death of Superman was announced, everyone knew a second film would follow and sure enough, viewers were treated to The Reign of the Superman. The 1992-93 storyline was streamlined and revised to be fit into the animated continuity, so characters who weren’t around at the time, are here now.
Warner Home Entertainment has edited the two films together into a 2:46 and has released it as The Death and Return of Superman released in a variety of formats including the nifty 4K Ultra HD Limited Edition Gift Set. The 4K gift set comes with Superman: Doomsday as a bonus 4K disc.

The Metal Men will return to the DC Universe with all the fun and weirdness you always hoped for from the team.
Dan Didio and Shane Davis separately have a history of mining the classic DC Universe, maintaining what makes them classic characters while tweaking them for modern consumption - Davis on Superman: Earth One and Didio on, among other things, the best book of the New 52 relaunch, Omac. But these updates are rarely radical departures. Omac was no longer Buddy Blank, but he was still a corporate drone dealing with girlfriend troubles fighting for world peace. So when we had a chance to talk to Davis and Didio about their new book, Metal Men, we asked about what each was drawing from to bring the classic characters to the world of 2020.

Brian Michael Bendis spoke to us about bringing the Riddler and a Brave and the Bold vibe to Batman Universe.
Early last year, DC introduced a series of Walmart exclusive comics featuring new stories by some of comics’ top creators. One of those featured a Batman tale written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Nick Derington. These stories were kind of difficult for many fans to find on a consistent basis, so DC’s faithful will be thrilled to hear that Bendis and Derington’s Batman story is currently being reprinted as Batman Universe, available wherever comics are sold.
When Bendis arrived at DC, many fans predicted that the author, crime writer extraordinaire that he is, would be all over Gotham City. Instead, Bendis made Metropolis and the Superman titles his home, making Batman Universe his first crack at the World's Greatest Detective. It was our...

My name is Michael Davis. I’m sure you know me as I have been a loyal AT&T phone customer for many years.
I know what you’re thinking. You think I’m a bit off my rocker. How On Earth could you know me just because I’m an AT&T phone customer?
That’s just silly.
You know me because I have my home, cell phone as well as my Internet and cable with AT&T.
I’m told you have a sense of humor and I hope my opening gave you a chuckle. What the remainder of this letter holds is far from funny.
I’m sure you’re aware when AT&T purchased Time Warner, it became the owner of DC Comics. DC Comics holds some media rights to Static a.

San Diego Comic-Con, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, went from hotel basement to a must-see pop culture pilgrimage.
Whether you know it best as San Diego Comic-Con, Comic-Con, or Sdcc, for more than 130,000 people annually, Comic-Con International: San Diego is the show for fandom.
There were cons held before Sdcc, and there are larger ones, but the San Diego-based nonprofit event, celebrating its 50th, is The Con.
Each year, San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter is overtaken by fans celebrating pop culture, an entertainment industry seeking to generate buzz, and media outlets from all over the world covering it. The city also benefits financially: the event produced a $147 million regional impact during fiscal year 2018, according to the San Diego Convention Center Corporation research.

Spinning out of the seemingly endless font of ideas that was Dark Nights: Metal, DC Publisher Didio and art duo Shane Davis and Michelle Delecki are bringing the team of self-aware robot elements back into the Dcu. And true to their history, it sounds like their creator, Doctor Will Magnus, is a pretty big ass. They make their return and discover a warehouse of old, discarded robots, older versions of themselves, like sentient metal Venture Brothers, discarded by their creator. At the same time, Challenger Mountain - the mountain that burst through Gotham City at the start of the bananapants crossover book - starts leaking liquid Nth Metal, the mystical material that comprises the weapons of the Hawkpeople.

Legendary adult-oriented DC imprint, Vertigo Comics, will close down by January 2020.
The iconic comics imprint that brought readers The Sandman, Preacher, Hellblazer, Fables, Y: The Last Man, and others will close its doors in 2020. According to THR, DC Comics plans to shutter Vertigo Comics, as well as young adult imprints DC Zoom and DC Ink, starting in January.
Replacing them will be three, age-specific imprints: DC Kids for ages 8-12, DC for 13 and up, and the adult-oriented DC Black Label for readers 17 and older. Series currently running under DC Zoom, Ink, and Vertigo will be integrated into these new imprints. This means that series like Sandman Universe, which expands the world of the Vertigo's most famous character, may live on under Black Label. Additionally, projects previously announced for Black Label before the restructure will still be published by the imprint.

The DC 100-Page Giants have turned out to be very popular, and DC will be expanding the program, adding new titles and ending their exclusivity at WalMart. Dan Didio says:
For those fans of the DC Giants at Walmart, have to clear up some misinformation making the rounds. Just want to let you know these books are doing well, so well that we are looking to expand the number of original pages in each book and include distribution to the direct market. Look for these and new titles later this year. The promise is to keep it one of the best values and reading experiences in the market.

Not since 1950's EC comics and their lurid depictions of homicide, has there been such a parental outcry over Warner Media's Walmart-exclusive "Superman 100-Page Giant" #7 comic book, by writer Tom King and illustrator Andy Kubert, featuring a 12-page story, devoted to the graphic torture and murder of 'Lois Lane':
"It isn't widely available," said writer King. "I'm not even sure people know the story. So here it is: On a mission far from home, 'Superman' tries calling home. 'Lois' doesn't answer.

Rocafort & Didio reveal some secrets in this exclusive preview of Sideways #12
If you asked a room full of people "What New 52 launch book do you miss the most?" I'm the guy shouting "Omac" before the rest of the room can turn their heads in puzzlement. DC co-publisher Dan Didio is a pretty fun writer who, Dick Grayson blood feud aside, can mimic the styles of a lot of different, great DC eras and gently update them for modern sensibilities.
Sideways is like a Spider-Man relaunch set in the Image Revolution and soaked with Dark Multiverse DC continuity. There are a lot of ingredients to add to the bowl, but Didio and Kenneth Rocafort, co-creators of the book, are up to the task.
The way Sideways revels in recent DC cosmology is pretty great, too. I'm an easy Grant Morrison mark, so putting the Seven Soldiers and man-of-the-people...

Detective Comics #1000 will feature a who's who of legendary Batman creators. Here are the details...
Batman didn't tie the knot last summer, but he still has plenty to celebrate in 2019. In May, the Caped Crusader turns 80 after his debut in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. And there's another milestone: Detective Comics, one of the books that formed the backbone of the publisher we know today as DC Comics, is hitting its 1,000th issue in March. To mark the occasion, DC is publishing an extra-sized issue featuring many of the great creators who have worked on the Dark Knight over the years.
The issue will feature a story from the current Detective Comics creative team of Peter J. Tomasi and Doug Mahnke that will introduce a new version of the Arkham Knight, the villain from the Batman: Arkham Knight video game, to the comics. The issue will also feature a...

Grant Morrison is back in the DC Universe with Green Lantern, Wonder Woman: Earth One, and the last New 52 Superman story.
Grant Morrison is once again exploring the DC Universe. While the celebrated writer has remained wary of committing to a monthly superhero book in the years since his turn on Action Comics in 2011-2012, he is still one of the most influential creators in the publisher's stable. His 2014 limited series, The Multiversity, redefined how the central multiversal concept of the DC Universe operates, and it has echoed through recent books by other writers, including last year's Dark Nights: Metal and the current ongoing Justice League series, but he still has plenty of work to do with some of DC's heaviest hitters.

Warner Bros. has promoted Pam Lifford, the president of its consumer products operation, to a new post as president of global brands and experiences.
The new position, announced on Thursday by Warner Bros. chairman-ceo Kevin Tsujihara, will have responsibility over Warner Bros. Consumer Products, DC, themed entertainment, and a new global franchise team.
Warner Bros. said the formation of the “global brands and experiences” unit is part of its ongoing initiatives to move its businesses and products closer to the consumer.
“With competition for consumers’ attention more intense than ever, and brand awareness and loyalty more important than ever, this is a great way to help focus on creating opportunities for fans to meaningfully interact with our brands and franchises at a level beyond the screen,” Tsujihara said. “Pam has deep experience across consumer products and building emotional connections with fans, and in the two years she’s been at Warner Bros.

While there are certainly many fans out there who firmly believe that you must side with one or the other when it comes to Marvel and DC, I’m of the variety that enjoys material produced by both and adore their respective pantheons of characters.
So, if you also count yourself among that ilk, then you may fondly recall such legendary crossover tales as Jla/Avengers or The Uncanny X-Men and The New Teen Titans – or maybe even the cult favorite that was Amalgam Comics. Odds are there are probably at least a few Dark Claw lovers reading this.
Anyway, it stands to reason that a great deal of readers yearn to see this legacy of crossovers continue at some point, but right now, that seems highly doubtful. With both companies expanding beyond the realm of comics by venturing into other forms of media such as movies, TV and video games,...
