Spirituality in cinema has been expressed in various ways where the feel-good aspect of faith-based films are put to great use for emotional manipulation. The triumph and tragedy of religious themes in the movies have never been championed as much as when the protagonist at the helm is a loving nun. Film nuns come in all varieties: nurturing, helpful, complex, obstinate, crusading and flawed.

On Monday, October 5, shooting commenced on Exorcismus, the latest fear film to come out of Spain’s Filmax studios. As with so many Spanish genre productions of the last decade, this one is also directed by a relative newcomer to feature filmmaking, Manuel Carballo (taking over for originally slated Luis de la Madrid). And in common with most of the company's previous horror movies (such as Arachnid, Dagon, Darkness, The MacHinist and Beyond Re-animator), the movie is being filmed with a multinational cast in English, on locations in and around the city of Barcelona.
The cast includes Resident Evil: Apocalypse’s Sophie Vavasseur (pictured), Richard Felix from Filmax’s Fragile, which still has yet to see U.S. release, Hellraiser stalwart Doug Bradley and the first Resident’s Stephen Billington. The movie has already been presold to a dozen countries, including Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Poland, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. Most...

Doug Bradley ( Hellraiser ), Sophie Vavasseur ( Resident Evil: Apocalypse ), Richard Felix ( Perfume ) and Stephen Billington have joined the cast of Filmax's English production Exorcismus currently lensing in Spain. Manuel Carballo is directing, taking over for Luis de la Madrid. David Munoz ( The Devil's Backbone ) scripted. Synopsis: Fear is taking over the residents of the High Cross housing estate. Recently, ominous things have been inexplicably taking place...and there are rumors. The Hawkins are desperate, medical tests have ruled out any illness, and yet their 15 year old daughter Suzy is getting worse every day. Something is consuming her. Father Ellis visits the Hawkins' every day to see Suzy. Despite his best attempts at discretion, he can't hide his concern....

Filmax has been replacing directors left and right lately (er, just twice I guess, but still...) and here's another changing of the guard, this time surrounding the upcoming possession flick Exorcismus.
The IMDb got the skinny today, stating that Manuel Carballo will be taking over for Luis de la Madrid to helm the story of the Hawkins family, who are horrified to be dealing with demons who have infested their 15-year-old daughter Suzy and the dark secret that she shares with Father Ellis.
Been a while since we've had a really good Satanic possession flick (sorry, Emily Rose didn't do it for me although I know it's got its share of followers), so here's hoping Filmax will deliver the goods, split pea soup and all!

Changes are being made in the Exorcismus director's chair. Last November, Filmax announced Luis de la Madrid ( The Nun ) was to helm the documentary-style exorcism chiller penned by The Devil's Backbone 's David Munoz. Instead, Manuel Carballo ( The Last of the Just ) is taking the reins. This is according to the IMDb (thanks to Aullidos for the tip). Luis De La Madrid will be directing Filmax's production of Exorcismus, with a script penned by David Munoz. The film is the story of Suzy, a young girl whose erratic behavior forces her parents to perform a priest-assisted exorcism, while the whole horrific scene is captured on a hidden camera. Filmax's previous productions include Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza’s 2007 [Rec], with a sequel already in development. Horror fans will recognize Luis from 2005’s The Nun and Mr. Munoz from Guilermo del Toro’s The Devil’S Backbone, which he co-wrote with the acclaimed director.
