Bird Box Barcelona, Netflix’s follow-up to the 2018 hit Bird Box, operates under the assumption that viewers are caught up to speed on the monstrous, unseen entities that rendered the world into a post-apocalyptic dystopia. Writer/Directors Álex Pastor and David Pastor bypass retreading the familiar invasion story beats to instead jump straight into character introductions against a backdrop already torn asunder. While 2018’s feature grapples with motherhood, Bird Box Barcelona explores grief, religion, and salvation. Its ambition in themes fascinates even when its execution struggles.
An opening scene introduces dad Sebastián (Mario Casas) having a touching moment with daughter Anna (Alejandra Howard) as they roller skate in an empty gym. It’s short-lived as the pair gear up with goggles and prepare for a blind trek to safety. The hostile strangers encountered shortly after signal a city deeply entrenched in and familiar with the creatures that have decimated the world.

A new city gets to experience the horrors of Bird Box in the first official trailer for Bird Box Barcelona, a spin-off sequel to the 2018 post-apocalyptic thriller film. While bodies are falling from the sky and people are flooding public transportation trying to escape to safety, that familiar sense of unease that defined the original, which starred Sandra Bullock, begins to creep back in.

"There are worse things than the creatures." Netflix has revealed the main official trailer for the Bird Box Barcelona movie (also known as Blindly in Spanish). It will be available to watch in just a few more weeks. The Netflix Spain production tells another story within the same post-apocalyptic people-go-kill-themselves universe as the first Bird Box in 2018. After a mysterious force decimates the world's population by causing all who "see" it to suddenly take their lives, Sebastian and his daughter Anna must navigate their journey of survival through the desolate streets of Barcelona. As they form an uneasy alliance with other survivors and make their way toward a safe haven, a threat more sinister than unseen creatures grows. This stars Mario Casas, Georgina Campbell, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Patrick Criado, Diego Calva Hernández, Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo de Castro, Michelle Jenner, and Leonardo Sbaraglia. Really looks like this'll be much better than the original film.

The second teaser trailer for Netflix’s Bird Box spinoff, Bird Box Barcelona, reveals much more of the terror the citizens of Barcelona are feeling as the creatures launch their attack. The premise remains the same as the original film – cover your eyes and never ever look at the creatures – but the setting switches to show how the world’s dealing with these bizarre beasts.
Bird Box starring Oscar winner Sandra Bullock premiered in December 2018, and the spinoff will debut on Netflix on July 14, 2023. Goya award winner Mario Casas (No matarás) leads the cast of the spinoff, starring Georgina Campbell, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Diego Calva, and Patrick Criado.
In addition, Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo De Castro, Michelle Jenner, and Leonardo Sbaraglia also star.
Álex Pastor and David Pastor penned the screenplay and co-directed. Dylan Clark, Chris Morgan, Núria Valls, Adrián Guerra, Josh Malerman, and Ryan Lewis produced the post-apocalyptic thriller.

Five years after the original "Bird Box" became an absolute sensation on Netflix, we're finally getting a follow-up. While it's not a proper sequel, it is more of a spin-off taking place elsewhere in the world. In this case, Spain, which is why the forthcoming movie is aptly titled "Bird Box Barcelona." That also has a nice alliterative ring to it. But that's about the only thing about this movie that looks nice, as it seems absolutely chaotic and tense.
This appears to be going with a very similar conceit as the original film, with survivors trying to avoid eye contact with the mysterious beings at the center of this disaster at all costs. It's a new group of people in an entirely new location. What will those new elements bring to the table? Let's have a look-see.

In today's news of slightly unnecessary projects, Netflix is reviving its hit original film "Bird Box" with a sequel-extension film called "Bird Box Barcelona." You read that right, we're getting another "Bird Box" film, but seemingly one that is simply adjacent to, and not a continuation of, the events of the original. Interesting.
Netflix debuted a one-minute teaser trailer for the new film — which was announced back in March 2021 — and it gives us a glimpse into a similar event as the 2018 film, only in Europe this time. There is chaos in major cities, and folks turn to obscuring their sight in the outside world in order to obtain shelter. Again, it's very much a global repositioning of the events of the first film, however, it does seem like this new story will have some of its own twists and turns.

Barcelona-based production-distribution-sales studio Filmax, producer of the original “The Red Band Society,” has taken on international sales on its own production “Dating in Barcelona,” which is backed by Amazon Prime Video and Catalan public network TV3.

The second fiction feature by Arantxa Echevarría, a comedy also starring Jesús Vidal, Gonzalo de Castro and Carolina Yuste, is nearing the end of post-production. With Carmen & Lola, a drama about youthful lesbian love that was set in the milieu of the Spanish Gypsy community, Bilbao-born Arantxa Echevarría garnered critical acclaim, was selected for the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival and picked up a well-deserved Goya Award for Best New Director in 2019. For all these reasons, her new work, entitled La familia perfecta (lit. “The Perfect Family”), which the director shot last year and which is currently having the finishing touches put to its edit, is particularly hotly anticipated. On this occasion, it will represent a complete change of direction in terms of genre, concept and style, as it will be a madcap comedy starring Belén Rueda, José Coronado (who previously worked together on the thriller...

Adding to an ever-growing original series lineup, Movistar +, Telefonica’s pay TV operator, will release the family tragidramedy “Matar al Padre” on May 25. World premiering at Spain’s Malaga Festival, then selected for Lille’s Series Mania, Europe’s biggest TV festival, the miniseries is quite a different proposition to Movistar + other early shows. This time a relatively young director, Mar Coll, conducts through four episodes a highly thorough, almost surgical analysis of the relationships of a upper-class family down the years.
Taking place in Catalonia over four periods between 1996 and 2012, the four-part “Matar al padre” focuses mainly on the character of the father, Jacobo Vidal – brought to life by Gonzalo de Castro in what is being greeted as a tour de force performance – and the impact of his conception of the world, hence actions, on the lives of his wife and children.
This could easily have become a simple father-son narrative arc,...
