Twenty years ago, Massive Attack’s golden streak went up in smoke. Up to that point, the Bristol trip-hop innovators had surfed a never-ending tide of acclaim. With their first three albums, they were heralded as mould-breakers and miracle workers.
Then, on 10 February 2003, came their fourth. 100th Window was feverish and uneasy, a sealed puzzle box that made few concessions to casual listeners. Critics balked, fans scratched their heads. In a finger-snap, Massive Attack had surrendered their status as the most bullet-proof band in Britain.
But as the LP’s 20th anniversary approaches, there is surely a case to be made for 100th Window as a misunderstood masterpiece. True, it’s harder work than any of the Nineties trilogy of Blue Lines (1991), Protection (1994) and Mezzanine (1998). Choruses are at a premium; the smooth grooves that were once a Massive Attack signature are replaced by barb-wire guitars and beats that rumble like...

It's that time of year where we celebrate the memorable games from the last year. The best, the best-looking, the one's that kept us on the edge of our seat, and the ones that nearly had us tossing the controller in frustration. Be sure to check out the other MTV Multiplayer Best of 2012 lists!
In 2012, we taken a closer look at some of the soundtracks gracing the games we liked throughout the year--from the orchestral, Hollywood-style scores by award-winning composers to curated collections featuring indie and underground hits.
So what sounded good in games in 2012?
This presented a welcome challenge: a lot of games sounded pretty good, and it took some time to whittle the choices down to just a top three. That's not going to stop us from pointing your earholes towards some worthy runners-up.

Not to be outdone by rivals, Xbox 360 has placed installations around the country in the drive to promote its new game
If you ever wanted proof that some publishers in the video games industry tally earnings that dwarf those of all other forms of entertainment, cast a weather eye at the landlocked country of Liechtenstein. On Wednesday, Xbox 360 becomes the first ever brand to transform the Principality of Liechtenstein by taking over some of the country's landmarks to promote the forthcoming launch of Halo 4.
According to news streaming in about this bizarre marketing initiative, Xbox 360 has decked out Gutenberg Castle as a Halo 4-themed military installation and installed a United Nations Space Command military camp in the nearby countryside.
To top it all off, it's re-worked a mining quarry as some kind of battleground for punters to take part in what they're calling "an immersive adventure", which will apparently feature...

The Neil Davidge-composed Ost has three tracks up on offer for the remix treatment with the possibility of prizes and Internet fame.
Even if Halo 4's soundtrack is getting its own separate remix album this November, that doesn't mean some junior DJs out there can't get in on the action. At the Halo 4 Remix Contest page, three tracks are available for whatever sort of dubstepping/drum and bass/acid jazz permutations that you might be dreaming up.
The three tracks are "To Galaxy," "Nemesis," and "Awakening," whose stems are available for download and later manipulation. The contest runs from now through October 9th and the winners will be revealed on November 16th. Various prizes based on region are up for grabs, but winning DJs could potentially score a Halo 4 Xbox 360, previous Halo soundtracks, or a gaming laptop.

Yesterday we brought you details of the October 22nd release of the 2-disc Halo 4 Original Soundtrack Special Edition which will include 14 remixes of composer Neil Davidge’s score for the return of the Master Chief and Cortana’s battles at the farthest reaches of the galaxy. We also spoke with Neil Davidge about creating a new sound for the Halo universe as Halo 4 hits retail this November.
Among the musicians tapped to spin out variations of Davidge’s score is L.A.-based producer DJ Skee (Aka Scott Keeney), who provided a mix for the track “Revival.” While not mixing tracks for the Chief, Skee also heads his own video production company, Skee.TV.
We spoke to him by phone recently about putting his own spin on the sounds of Halo 4 and what it’s like for a longtime fan of the series to be a first-time producer on one of its soundtracks,...

Halo sounds a certain way to longtime fans of the series. If you ask anyone who's played through the campaigns of the main titles in the series, composer Marty O'Donnell's score has been integral to the Master Chief and Cortana's galaxy-spanning adventures (to the degree that even O'Donnell's own jazzier compositions for Odst were met with doubt and confusion by fans).
But with 343 Industries taking over the franchise from Bungie, the Kirkland, Wa-based developer had to think about what was next sonically for the series, vetting several candidates to give the first game in a new trilogy its own sound. And as Neil Davidge, the man who would eventually get the gig tells it, they didn't want to do the usual film composer doing games things.

Back in February when Rhythm Heaven Fever was released it was a bit of an anomaly for the Wii. It was a game with very simple controls, bright colorful graphics, and an exceptionally catchy soundtrack, but it had nothing to do with motion. By stepping away from the console's signature gameplay mechanic, the development team had the ability to focus on growing the series from its portable predecessors to a larger screen, without being pigeonholed by forcing some kind of waggle integration. With the game on store shelves for almost two months now, we had the chance to reflect on the game and dig a little deeper into its development, and how to preserver over the more challenging mini-games with the franchise's Sound Director, Mr. Masami Yone. Read on to find out his thoughts on the game, its inescapable music, and why Mario might never make an appearance in a Rhythm Heaven game.

Yup, you’re definitely gonna be looking down some gunsights, shooting foreign dudes in this one.
There’s a new trailer for Medal of Honor: Warfighter and that’s certainly a modern shooter with dudes in brown shooting dudes with brown skin in foreign locales. Sorry to grouse at you first thing in the morning, but the modern shooter landscape is starting to look a little same-y as these games become the Jennifer Aniston rom-coms of gaming: to wit, they all look the same and each one exists on a continuum of increasingly diminishing returns.
Besides looking pretty slick with the level of attention to detail paid to the weapons and locations, I’m not seeing anything here that gets the blood pumping in any particular way.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Players will get up close and personal in Medal of Honor Warfighter.
Follow the war on terror...

One quick note: Massive Attack is kicking off its North American tour with Thievery Corporation this weekend. Aloha... A Conversation with Massive Attack's Robert Del Naja Mike Ragogna: Usually your projects are almost like a song cycle. What was the approach while making your new album Heligoland? Robert Del Naja: This album started off, as usual, being somewhat of a sonic exercise, and then I realized halfway through that there were quite a lot of fights to be had between myself and Grant (Marshall) and myself and Neil Davidge in terms of what I wanted to do sonically and what they probably didn't want to do sonically. So, I kind of made a U-turn halfway through, and decided to strip it all back and make it very acoustic, and very much expose all the instruments, and even make the music slave to the...

Film director Louis Leterrier has cleared up two bits of talk about his upcoming "Clash of the Titans" remake with MTV News.
First up the rumors that Matt Bellamy from Muse would be doing some additional music for the film alongside Craig Armstrong’s score.
Letterier says "Craig [Armstrong], he was going to write the score and Matt Bellamy was going to come in and do… maybe 30 minutes of music. Craig Armstrong is still doing the score and I called my friend Neil Davidge from Massive Attack to replace Matt for the areas that Matt was doing. So it’ll be Craig Armstrong and Massive Attack, which is pretty exciting."
He also confirmed that though they tried it, the film will not be getting a last-minute conversion to 3D: "We tried [to do 3-D for Clash]. We tried hard. We just won’t have time. Maybe we possibly can re-release it in 3-D".

There's been a lot of speculation as to whether or not Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans remake will be in 3D, particularly since the content seems to lend itself so well to the format, but the director has put the kibosh on that idea, stating, "We just won't have time."
In an interview with MTV Movies Blog, Leterrier discusses the pressure he faced and the effort his team put into trying to release the film in 3D. "We tried [to do 3D for 'Clash']. We tried hard. Maybe we possibly can re-release it in 3D."
In addition, Lettier had to go on set every day and deal with star Sam Worthington and his Avatar experiences. "Because it was Sam, I could hear all these 3D stories from 'Avatar.' And James Cameron was calling often, and I was like 'Guys, I'm doing the best I can with [the two dimensions] I've got!' So if we...

Late last night we ran info about the rumor that Matt Bellamy from the band Muse would be doing supplemental music for the Louis Leterrier remake of Clash of the Titans. Instead, the film will have Craig Armstrong's score (as we pointed out last night) and supplemental music from Massive Attack. "Clash of the Titans" hits theaters on March 26, 2010. It will be director Louis Leterrier's follow-up to the 2008 Marvel Comics flick "The Incredible Hulk" and only his fourth feature as a director ("Transporter 2" and the Jet Li-starring "Unleashed" being the other two). Leterrier has honed his craft quite a bit through the years, and all signs suggest that "Clash" will be his biggest and best effort yet.
That said, there are still a few burning questions that fans want some answers on.
