After several years of working as an assistant director for Suzuki Seijun, Hasebe Yasuharu finally got the chance to direct his own film with 1966’s Black Tight Killers. While Suzuki’s irreverent whatsit Tokyo Drifter went on to international fame that same year, Hasebe’s debut lurked in relative obscurity outside of Japan. It’s an understandable fate since Suzuki’s relentless abstraction of both narrative and action accounts for much of what still makes it feel vital and fresh nearly six decades later, and Black Tight Killers sticks more tightly to the type of mukokuseki akushon (“borderless action”) film that Nikkatsu Studios had been churning out since the late ’50s.
Still, Black Tight Killers is an immensely stylish film in its own right. And it functions as a fascinating time capsule of a post-war Japan at a time when its youth culture was embracing the spirit of the Swinging ’60s.

What a discovery . . . I’m glad this was recommended to me. Kôsaku Yamashita’s powerful 1968 drama belongs to the semi-chivalrous ‘honor and code’ yakuza tradition. Crime clan blood brothers Kôji Tsuruta and Tomisaburô Wakayama are good men caught between conflicting loyalties to family, friends, and the yakuza credo. Clashes of honor lead to unavoidable ‘knives out’ confrontations. It’s as intense as the Japanese classics. The extras offer a refresher in yakuza customs and protocol, with expert guidance from Chris D. and Mark Schilling.

She may have failed to find love herself, when Brad Womack chose Emily Maynard on the last season of The Bachelor but Ashley Hebert has gotten the last laugh and last night premièred in her own reality TV show, The Bachelorette .
In the first episode of the season, the 27 year old beauty from Madawaska, Maine cut a whopping seven men from her 25 strong group of admirers and the evening started badly as she had to content with a rather drunk Tim, who had to be shaken and woke for their date time.
Understandably, he did not get a rose at the end of the evening and seemed quite put out to be leaving the show at such an early stage.
One man who did impress was Ryan P. who stole the Bachelorette away for some one on one time after winning the First Impression Rose. Mickey tried to kiss Ashley...

The spring TV season is winding down, the summer season is starting up - we all know that means another "Bachelorette" season. This time it's Ashley Hebert who has her choice of 25 bachelors.
Warning: Please, no spoilers in the comments. Those comments will be deleted.
This seventh installment of "The Bachelorette" kicks off with (what else?) a video replay of Ashley's time on Brad Womack's "Bachelor" season. I sincerely hope I end up liking her as bachelorette, since I was really hoping Shawntel would get the gig.
After Brad's season, Ashley was back in Philadelphia, apparently doing a lot of jogging, walking or dancing while gazing off in a contemplative manner. I am digging her darker hair, but what I am not digging is the "Rocky" thing. We get it. It's Philly. They couldn't have had her lick the Liberty Bell or something?
We get to meet...

Ashley Hebert has cut 7 from the 25 men competing for her heart on "The Bachelorette" season 7. Getting the first impression rose was Ryan P. who stole the Bachelorette away for some one on one.
Bentley was seemingly bitter about her decision. Although he admitted he was not overly attracted to Ashley, the 28-year-old businessman claimed he should have gotten the first impression rose because he was competitive.
Bentley, however, was later given a go to the next round after getting a rose in the rose ceremony. This was shocking considering report that he is there for a wrong reason. Although she wanted to dislike him, Ashley was blown away by his good-looking. In their talk, Bentley admitted to having a daughter and being divorced, but told Ashley he is in a healthy spot right now for a new relationship.
Other suitors getting the roses in the rose ceremony were Jeff, Constantine,...

Ashley Hebert's 25 suitors on "The Bachelorette" season 7 have been unveiled. Coming from various occupation backgrounds, some of the men will cause a stir right in the first episode with their actions.
Mickey, for an example, will take a step ahead than the other guys as he "can't help himself and steals a kiss" on the first night. Tim, meanwhile, may not get a chance to introduce himself well to Ashley as he gets too drunk to function on the first night.
Jeff tries to steal the attention by showing up wearing a mask as it has been seen in the first promo for the show. Ryan P. is "the first to steal the Bachelorette away for some alone time and tries to quiet her fears about the men not liking her."
Another man, Ben F., "scores big points for introducing Ashley to his mother over a speakerphone." And Nick...
