It.s not really a sequel to the first film, but it isn.t a film that offers anything new either. What it is though is a passable action flick that features some good performances and a nice Blu-ray transfer. Just don.t expect too much more than that and you.ll not want to shoot out the telly. Lt. Paul Cutler (Gabriel Macht), a hotshot from Los Angeles Swat, is tasked to train a Swat team in Detroit in new anti-terrorism techniques. He finds the new team not up to his standards and immediately encounters resistance from some his new squad although he does find the time to spark up with police psychologist Kim Byers (Carly Pope). Unfortunately, an assignment ends...

Clark Johnson’s 2003 movie “Swat” is one of those movies that is incredibly re-watchable. I don’t care where it is when I stumble across it on the tube, I usually plant my butt down and watch the rest of it. The direct-to-dvd sequel doesn’t have Colin Farrel or a huge budget, but it does have Gabriel Macht (of “The Spirit” fame) and two former Terminators in Kristanna Loken and Robert Patrick. What more can you ask for? How about crazy “gun Pov” footage that makes you think director Benny Boom is a bit of a “Call of Duty” game addict. Check out the DVD cover art and six clips from the movie below. (In case you missed it, you can catch the film’s trailer here.) When you're making a sequel that's almost guaranteed to go direct-to-dvd, there's no rule that you have to base it on something anyone would actually want to watch. So more power to Benny Boom, the Next Day AIr director who is apparently planning a sequel to S.W.A.T, the 2003 movie featuring Colin Farrell and future Best Actor nominee Jeremy Renner. No, I don't remember S.W.A.T. either, and given its 48% Tomatometer rating, you probably don't need to. But according to The Movie Insider (via Slashfilm, Boom's sequel plans to bring the S.W.A.T. team to Detroit, where "Lapd Lieutenant Paul Cutler finds himself the target of a homicidal genius who is protected by government officials." None of the main characters in the original film were named Paul Cutler, so I think we can stop worrying that Renner will follow up his Oscar nod with ...

Do you remember the 2003 action crime thriller S.W.A.T. directed by Clark Johnson, starring Colin Farrell, Samuel L Jackson, Jeremy Renner and Michelle Rodriguez? Yeah, me neither. Well the film made Sony over $200 million in worldwide box office receipts, which is apparently enough to warrant a sequel. Columbia Pictures, Original Film, and producer Neal Moritz have apparently hired Next Day Air director Benny Boom to helm the sequel. The film, titled S.W.A.T.: Fire-Fight, already has a screenplay written by Reed Steiner, a television writer/produceer on Nash Bridges, The District, The Shield, Invasion, and NCIS. The sequel will follow Lapd Lieutenant Paul Cutler, who is transferred to a Swat team in Detroit and "finds himself the target of a homicidal genius who is protected by government officials." I'm guessing this is a direct-to-dvd sequel, but I'm not 100% positive. All we know is that production is set...
