Spider-Man: Homecoming brings the webslinger back to the big screen in style. Here's our review...
Well, Marvel and Sony kept their promise. Within ten minutes of Spider-Man: Homecoming getting started, any hint of origin story business for both Peter Parker and the film’s key antagonist - Adrian Toomes/Vulture - is done and dusted. The pair are set up for the two hours that follow, and there’s no radioactive spider bite in sight. Surprisingly, there’s not much Iron Man in sight either. Given that the promotions for the film have often been dominated by Robert Downey Jr and/or his metallic alter ego, be assured that this is very much a Peter Parker story. If anything, more a Peter Parker story than a Spider-Man one.
That's the core of the movie we get, and it’s a choice that really pays dividends. In a film with some well-delivered rug pulls,...

Thomas Manning, a Massachusetts man who earlier this month received the first penis transplant in the U.S., said on Monday that he hopes to get his love life back on track as soon as possible. "That's the plan, but we'll have to just wait and see," the single 64-year-old bank courier tells People. "I want to be like everybody else. I want to go back to work, have a relationship, and just lead a normal life." "I'm not sure how this is going to turn out, but the doctors are optimistic, and so am I. Things are coming along fine; we're going forward,...

Dr. Curtis L. A former Superman and Supergirl has joined the new CBS incarnation of the Girl of Steel! TVLine broke the big (and possibly biggest geek worthy) news for Supergirl earlier today, revealing that Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’s Dean Cain and Supergirl The Movie’s Helen Slater have joined the project in two secret roles. Cain is known for his terrific potrayal of Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman on the Lois & Clark series back in 1993 that ran for four seasons on ABC (the series also starred Desperate Housewives’ Teri Hatcher as Lois Lane). He also appeared in an episode of the Superman prequel series Smallville as Dr. Curtis Knox (an adapation of the DC villain Vandal Savage) in Season 7. Slater is known for her great portryal in the sadly not-so-well-received Supergirl movie back in 1984, which starred big names such as Peter O’Toole and Mia Farrow. Like Cain,...

CBS’ forthcoming Supergirl series continues to flesh out its growing cast roster with the addition of two surprising – yet familiar – names. TV Line reports that Helen Slater and Dean Cain have boarded the show for what are being described as two “top secret, guest-starring roles.”
This marks the third time each actor has appeared in the Superman-Supergirl canon. Slater first made waves in the titular role for 1984’s Supergirl movie, while Cain portrayed Clark Kent on the small screen in ABC’s long-running series, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Both went on to guest star on The CW’s Superman drama Smallville; the former as Clark’s birth mother Lara, and Cain as Dr. Curtis Knox. For now, the network are keeping the details of their specific roles on Supergirl under wraps.

How’s this for super-meta casting: Helen Slater and Dean Cain have landed guest-starring roles on CBS’s Supergirl, TVLine has learned.
Slater, of course, played Kara on the big screen in 1984’s Supergirl, while Cain starred as the Man of Steel in ABC’s Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. And both guest-starred on the WB/CW Superman drama Smallville, Slater in the role of Clark/Kal-El’s Krypton mom Lara, and Cain as the immortal Dr. Curtis Knox.

TV Line report that both Helen Slater and Dean Cain have been added to the cast of the CBS' Supergirl pilot in roles that shall remain a mystery. Both actors previously popped up in the CW's Smallville, where Slater played Clark/Kal-El’s Kryptonian mom Lara, and Cain appeared as the Dr. Curtis Knox). There's a good chance they'll both be playing established DC characters again, but for now we can only speculate about that. So far the cast of Supergirl also includes Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Chyler Leigh as Kara’s foster sister Alex, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, and of course Melissa Benoist as the titular superheroine.

The old saying goes is that if you want to win an Academy Award then the best way is to undertake playing a disabled part or portraying a famous personality in a biopic. In some cases, actors have accomplished both themes and reached their Oscar-attaining goals (see Patty Duke in The Miracle Worker or Daniel-Day Lewis in My Left Foot for instance).
In Able to Disable: Top 10 Oscar-Winning Disability-Bound Movie Characters we will look at the top movie characters that became Academy Award-winning figures within their films. Interestingly, there have been a couple of performers that were real-life disabled individuals that convincingly embodied their fictional disabled alter egos (see Harold Russell from The Best Days of Our Lives or Marlee Matlin from Children of a Lesser God).

★★★☆☆ Considering its success upon its theatrical release earlier this year, it's perhaps risky to say that The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, is in-fact a bit limp. After his parent's death in a plane crash, Peter Parker (Garfield) goes to live with his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). During a visit to a high-tech laboratory run by his father's old colleague Dr. Curtis Connors (Rhys Ifans), Peter is accidentally bitten by a radioactive spider, the result of which has an alarming effect on his physical make-up placing his life, and that of everyone he loves including his new girlfriend Gwen (Stone), in danger.

The Amazing Spider-Man can be a spectacular and somewhat dizzying experience. Spidey has the ability to run up chairs, desks, walls and just about anything in the environment with the fluidity on an insect. When he swings through New York City, collecting a near infinite amount of comic books, it’s a web-slinging good time. However, bland environments, mediocre boss battles, redundant missions and an off-balanced camera will hamper the excitement of this otherwise fun wall-crawling adventure.
The game serves as an epilogue of sorts to The Amazing Spider-Man movie. The lizard is in jail (or rather a mental institution much like Batman’s Arkham Asylum) and Gwen is still working at Oscorp. On the surface, Oscorp appears to be newly reformed and working towards fixing its negative public image – left in the wake of Dr. Curtis Connors’ lizard experiments. Unfortunately, when Gwen sneaks Peter Parker into Oscorp things go horribly wrong.

It’s really strange how distinct movie-watching memories can be. Throughout the entirety of The Amazing Spider-Man, I had the most overwhelming feelings of déjà vu, anxiously awaiting the moment when Andrew Garfield would kiss Emma Stone upside down. Because, with that Spiderman (2002) scene excluded, a great deal of this reimagining of the story followed the same plot points, while focusing on Peter’s upbringing with a sharper lens.
Over the last decade, the superhero movie has evolved into something that can be taken seriously, an ode to comic book lore with real issues of morality, identity, and heroism at stake. This is due in large part to Sam Raimi’s first two Spiderman films (the third is excluded for obvious reasons), the X-Men franchise, and of course Christopher Nolan’s vision of Batman. That being said, our expectations for superhero films have been raised to pretty lofty heights. And...

The Amazing Spider-Man hits the big screen tomorrow, and I can’t tell you much I’m looking forward to seeing it – and I’ve already seen it!
Sony have put together a brilliant ad campaign that we’ve all been enjoying in recent months, and now the time has finally almost come for the film to be released, and things are looking good – a few markets in Asia have had an early release this weekend, with the numbers topping $50m., getting the summer blockbuster off to a brilliant start.
Following all that we’ve seen already, the studio have released this awesome new hi-res image from the film, seeing Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man in action, doing what he does best.
I remember exactly which scene this is from, and can guarantee you’re going to love it – it is simply immense, both the scene and the entire film.

We're likely reaching something of a tipping point with the superhero movies. The first wave is ending: "X-Men" has already been reinvented, Superman is getting his second relaunch in a decade, "The Hulk" has already had its third iteration, and Christopher Nolan's Batman-trilogy, which more than anything else brought a new level of respectability to the genre, is coming to a close. We're entering the second phase of the modern superhero movie era, and it's leading to some interesting possibilities. So far, these films have essentially been a genre in and of themselves, but as new filmmakers inevitably try out fresh ideas within its confines, we're likely to see other styles brought into the mix.
And that's where Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man" comes into play, as it's arguably the first comic book movie not targeted principally at the comic book crowd. Indeed, as a comic book movie,...

After plans for a fourth Spider-Man film fell through following disputes between Sony and director Sam Raimi, news that the series was to receive a reboot came as a shock to many. After all, reboots have to this point been reserved largely for resuscitating flagging franchises such as Batman and James Bond rather than propping up a series the last film of which grossed $890m worldwide.
The blockbuster landscape changed considerably with the release of The Dark Knight, promoting a grittier, darker tone and aesthetic to comic book films, and so Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man reflects this, repurposing Raimi’s goofy style with something more mature and downcast. The change, however, is negligible; The Avengers proved that light and fun still works, and the overall motivation behind the project, to release another Spider-Man film before the rights reverted back to Marvel, makes the project...

While interest (or shall we call it curiosity) continues to build for the Spider-Man franchise reboot, we haven't seen much of the film's lead villain – Lizard. Played by Rhys Ifans, Lizard aka Dr. Curtis Connors, was a gifted surgeon who went into war to help his country. His arm was injured in a blast and had to be amputated. He eventually became interested in the secrets of reptilian regeneration and created a serum taken from the DNA of a reptile. After successful tests on lab animals and warnings from his wife, Connors ingested the serum. His arm grew back, but the serum's one side effect transformed him into a reptilian monster. Take a look below. The Amazing Spider-Man arrives July 3. There will also be a four minute "super preview" airing on...

No Dark Knight Rises footage. No John Carter of Mars footage. NBC and Fox have both unleashed their Fall 2011-2012 TV schedule, now ABC has released theirs. I’m excited to see Castle, Modern Family, and The Middle back in the mix. Most of the new shows they have line-up don’t really interest me, but there are a few that have caught my eye. PanAm is another 1960’s based TV show that will go against AMC’s Mad Men and NBC’s The Playboy Club. There’s a show called Revenge that sounds really interesting, but the new series I’m most excited about is is the fantasy series Once Upon A Time, a show where fairy tales collide with the modern day.

A new image from the set of Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man has revealed a first look at Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curtis Connors. As all fan boys know, Dr. Connors is the scientist who becomes Spider-Man's enemy, The Lizard, when an experiment to re-grow his arm goes horribly wrong. Recently played by Dylan Baker in 2007's poorly-received Spider-Man 3, The Lizard has had little action on screen, and Webb's film will require extensive CGI for the character. An interracial couple is found dead in their car. Lovers who died where they met. Shot in the head. No witnesses.
Detective Morris believed it to be a simple murder-suicide. The man shot the woman before putting a bullet in his head. No medical mystery. Until Dr. Megan Hunt removed two bullets from the male victim, making it murder.
It was no mistake they got to work with Det. Morris and Det. Baker again. Dr. Kate Murphy (Jeri Ryan) requested it.
To get through the autopsy quickly and efficiently, Megan asked for Curtis' and Ethan's help, letting us get to know these characters better. As Curtis kept saying, working for Nancy Drew -- Dr. Hunt.
Curtis, who was her superior, was not so thrilled about being ordered around, insisting he will not approve any unnecessary tests. He still wants to be called a doctor. Megan wanted him to act like he gives a damn.

I have been looking forward to this. Just when the TV landscape has been speaking only to my short attention span recently, ABC offers up a familiar genre, I missed so much from the 80s, a juicy medical mystery, in the same vein of Quincy with heart. Although, I have not seen Dana Delany's other shows as much. She is one familiar face I love to see on television. And I wasn't disappointed.
The tagline:
Brilliant neurosurgeon Megan Hunt had it all, family and career, or so she thinks... until an accident killed her... career.
After a year as medical examiner, she still has to prove herself to her bosses and struggles to have a relationship with her twelve year old daughter, when her ex-husband got full custody.
In this episode, she is assigned the case of a drowning victim. What she finds out about the girl's life is what helped find her killer.

ABC's new crime drama, Body of Proof, asks a question that television shows have been trying to figure out for decades, usually without positive results - Can a really irritating, annoying bastard be the center of a show? This time around, perhaps softening the caustic nature of things (perhaps not), Dana Delaney is our obnoxious misanthrope du jour.
Dr. Megan Hunt (Delaney) was Head of Neurosurgery at a top Philadelphia hospital five years ago, but a car accident left her with a condition that causes her to lose full control of her hands. Random numbness and cramping in your hands not being one of the chief qualifications of a brain surgeon, Dr. Hunt has shifted to a job as a Medical Examiner. Still hoping to return to neurosurgery one day, and having lost custody of her daughter in the divorce, Dr. Hunt is... cranky.

In another case of finally using their bigger shows to boost the newbies, ABC is scheduled to air the second episode of the Dana Delaney procedural Body of Proof after a new episode of Desperate Housewives on April 3. The alphabet has sometimes been a little hesitant to rock the boat with their scheduling, but between this move, putting Mr. Sunshine behind Modern Family, and allowing the Off the Map premiere to get a second viewing post-Grey's, it seems that they're finally using their assets wisely. It's not been a great few seasons for new ABC dramas (in terms of ratings), so this move could help solidify Body of Proof into the next channel mainstay.

Dean Cain has admitted that he would be keen to reprise his role as Dr. Curtis Knox on Smallville. The actor previously played the sinister scientist in the seventh season episode, 'Cure'. "My character [is] immortal," he told On The Red Carpet. "He wasn't killed, so I could return [but] they haven't contacted me yet." Cain previously played Clark Kent on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman from 1993 to 1997. He explained that he was pleased that former co-star Teri Hatcher will also (more)...

Smallville's 10th season premiere "Lazarus" won't air until this coming Friday, the 24th, but already the internet is abuzz with the latest bit of iconic casting for the Man of Steel's final outing.
Following in the footsteps of her former co-star Dean Cain, Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher has joined the Women of Smallville as, you guessed it, Lois Lane's mother.
It seems Teri Hatcher's portrayal of the late Ella Lane won't coincide with the re-appearance of Lois' living family members, with Hatcher appearing via old videotape in the eighth episode "Abandoned" and Michael Ironside and Peyton List's Sam and Lucy Lane returning for the seventh episode "Ambush."
Prior to her primetime stardom as Susan Mayer of ABC's Desperate Housewives, Hatcher was best known as the iconic Superman reporter of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Former Clark Kent actor Dean Cain had previously appeared...

Earlier today, ABC announced its fall schedule for the upcoming 2010-2011 season and introduced several new shows. One of them is "Body of Proof", a new drama which will be airing on Friday nights at 9:00 p.m. The new series will star Dana Delaney (who recently starred on Desperate Housewives) as a neurosurgeon. ABC has released two clips for the upcoming series.
Dr. Megan Hunt (Dana Delany) was in a class of her own, a brilliant neurosurgeon at the top of her game. Her world is turned upside down when a devastating car accident puts an end to her time in the operating room. Megan resumes her career as a medical examiner determined to solve the puzzle of who or what killed the victims. Megan’s instincts are sharp, but she’s developed a reputation for graying the lines of where her job ends and where the police department’s begins.

Chicago – ABC continues to look for another “Lost” or “Modern Family” this fall with seven new shows announced today at their 2010 upfronts presentation. The network will see changes on four nights of the week but will bring back the sometimes on-the-bubble “Castle” in its Monday night timeslot while saying goodbye to “FlashForward,’ “Scrubs,” and “Better Off Ted”.
Stephen McPherson, president, ABC Entertainment Group, said this morning via press release, “Our passion for great storytelling is at the core of everything we do. Finding and supporting writers, directors, producers and actors who share that passion is critical to our success. Our shows are the product of these collaborations, and we are thrilled to add 10 new series to our schedule next year.” (Seven will premiere in the fall with three more reserved for midseason.)
ABC returns sixteen programs from the 2009-2010 season including “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” “The Bachelor,” “Brothers & Sisters,...

Last night, Dylan Baker was at a special presentation of Halloween horror flick Trick ‘r Treat in New York City. (By the way, if you haven’t seen that yet, it’s on DVD and it’s a great rental for the season). After the screening, Baker answered questions from the audience and Ugo.com was there to hear the good news.
Dylan Baker will return for Spider-Man 4 as Dr. Curtis Connors, a small role in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 at Empire State University. He’s the one who explains the symbiote in the third film that attaches itself to Peter Parker and later Venom.
Michael Dougherty (the TrT director) joked about Baker’s role thus far, remarking that his character was “just appearing in the background.” It’s unclear whether they were saying he’d continue as a small supporting role or if he’d finally step into the spotlight this time.

After just listening to The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds on vinyl this afternoon, I was probably in the perfect mood for the Boat that Rocked trailer that magically appeared via electronical mail in my electronic mail box. I admit to being a sucker for any movie with a solid soundtrack from the 1960s and 1970s. I'm also a sucker for any movie with a giant cast of great actors telling the story of people giving the audible middle finger to the man. The spirit of rebellion is definitely alive in this trailer, and it's looking like this movie will shape up to be another fantastic story from writer/director Richard Curtis. So what happens when you toss Phillip Seymour Hoffman (channeling his own Lester Bangs a bit), Rhys Ifans, Gemma Arterton, Bill Nighy, and Nick Frost onto a boat transmitting the only Rock 'n' Roll music that Britain's got? [flv:http://media.filmschoolrejects.com/trailers/boat-that-rocked-dom-trailer.flv 590 250] Brilliant. Absolutely...

Veteran British TV host Bruce Forsyth received the highest accolade the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) Academy can award at a ceremony in London on Sunday night.
The 80-year-old entertainer was presented with The Fellowship Award in recognition of his "outstanding body of work" at the Bafta Television Awards.
Forsyth joins director Ken Loach, screenwriter/director Richard Curtis, Lawrence of Arabia film editor Anne Coates and Hollywood star Sir Anthony Hopkins among the recipients of the coveted prize.
Upon receiving his award at the glitzy London Palladium prizegiving, Forsyth said, "This is quite overwhelming.
"(British comedy duo) Morecambe and Wise and Charlie Chaplin were the only light entertainment people to get this award before."
Other winners at the annual ceremony included comedian/TV presenter Harry Hill, who won the Best Entertainment Performance and Best Entertainment Programme for his show Harry Hill's TV Burp, and celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, who claimed the night's Best Feature honour for cookery show Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.
Sci-fi drama Heroes won the International Prize and The Street was named Best Drama Series for the second year in a row.
Meanwhile, Dame Eileen Atkins won the battle of the dames - she beat Dame Judi Dench in the Best Actress category for her role in Cranford. Andrew Garfield was named Best Actor for his role in Boy A.
