A former juvenile stage actor, Canadian-born William James Craft came
to Hollywood in the early 1900s as an actor, eventually giving up
acting to work as a cameraman, then became a director. He served as a
photographer during World War I, and after the war he concentrated on
directing, working often for Universal Pictures.
