For almost a decade, Gary Coleman dominated the small screen as one of the greatest child stars of the late 70s and 80s. Coleman’s confidence, wit, and personality captured the hearts of TV and film audiences. At the height of his fame, Coleman was listed as Number 1 on VH1‘s “100 Greatest Kid Stars.” For the most part, Coleman helped redefine Hollywood’s child actors’ successes. However, Coleman’s adult life and career spiraled opposite to his on-screen life. Remembering his work and contribution to the industry, here are 10 things you didn’t know about Diff’rent Strokes‘ Gary Coleman. 1. Gary Coleman...

As we approach another anniversary of August 9, those who participated in “the decision” are all but gone.
But the reminders are with us, thanks to a new book by Evan Thomas, “Road to Surrender,” the forward for which reads “To save lives, it was necessary to take lives — possibly hundreds of thousands of them.” And, of course, Christopher Nolan’s epic portrait of the man who was never allowed to forget, Robert Oppenheimer.
We can’t hide under our desks anymore, but we can view ten other works that scared the hell out of us.
“On the Beach” (United Artists)
“On the Beach” (1959)
As a little girl in 1959, I found my parents watching this black and white film on TV. Excited, I asked if it was the latest with Annette and Frankie Avalon. Uh, no. They allowed me to stay, and two hours later, I was shaken to the core.

Minor spoiler alert: Ted Lasso‘s Season 3 finale confirmed that Coach Beard’s first name is Willis. We say confirmed, not revealed, because the series already revealed Beard’s first name in Season 2. We just didn’t know it yet.
Ted first referred to Beard as Willis in Season 2, Episode 1, “Goodbye Earl.” Only then his first name was “hidden” in a classic sitcom reference — more specifically, a Diff’rent Strokes reference. During an unofficial meeting of the Diamond Dogs, Ted turned to Beard and channeled his inner Gary Coleman when he asked: “What you talkin’ about, Willis?”

On May 23, 2023, the streaming service Max will debut a reboot of "Clone High," the Canadian animated series created by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Bill Lawrence that initially ran in 2002 and 2003.
For those unfamiliar with the series, it had something of an odd premise. A shadowy governmental organization called the Secrey Board of Shadowy Figures has found a way to clone notable leaders from throughout human history. Hundreds of them were cloned about 16 years ago, and the teenage versions of the historical figures are now all attending the same all-American high school. The series lead was Abraham Lincoln (Will Forte), who would encounter the usual trials of adolescence. Abe would have an on-again-off-again relationship with Cleopatra (Christa Miller), and was best friends with Joan of Arc (Nicole Sullivan) and Gandhi (Michael McDonald). Abe's primary rival was the womanizing JFK (Chris Miller). Other attendees of Clone High included Martin Luther King, Jr.,...

It’s always a treat when a former “Saturday Night Live” cast member returns to host, and this week’s episode features the return of Molly Shannon.
In a series of promos, Shannon — who joined the cast in 1995 and exited in 2001 — is joined by current cast member Ego Nwodim and musical guests the Jonas Brothers.
In the first, Nwodim asks the JoBrios if they’re ready for the annual “SNL” Easter egg hunt. “Oh, we can’t participate in that,” Nick Jonas says. “Really? Why not?” asks Shannon “Our mom said we’re not allowed to have chocolate,” Joe Jonas responds. “It makes us too hyper,” added Kevin Jonas.

Victoria Justice was one of the biggest teen stars of the 2000s, appearing in TV shows like Victorious, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and iCarly. However, the actor surprisingly made a large salary for Zoey 101, despite only having a supporting role.
Victoria Justice’s role on ‘Zoey 101’
Justice began acting when she was 10 years old with a small part in an episode of Gilmore Girls. Just two years later, she scored the gig on Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101. Justice played Lola Martinez, the main character Zoey’s (played by Jamie Lynn Spears) boarding school roommate.
Her character debuted in Season 2 of the popular teen show. Lola was an aspiring actor with dreams of Hollywood stardom. She often put her acting skills to use during various schemes she and the rest of the characters pulled off, from disguising herself as a goth or a boy, to faking a British accent.

Even though the Razzies have already apologized for nominating 12-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong of “Firestarter” as “Worst Actress” and taken her out of the running for this year’s parody awards, former child star Drew Barrymore let them have it on her talk show Thursday, saying that it “made her blood boil.”
Barrymore played the title role in the 1984 adaptation of the Stephen King novel when she was 9 years old and, naturally, feels protective of the remake’s child lead.
“This makes my blood boil,” she said in a segment on “The Drew Barrymore Show.” Although Razzie co-founder John Wilson stated they won’t nominate anyone 18 or younger going forward, Barrymore added, “Please don’t do this to people who are younger. That’s not nice. And I really like Ryan and as [someone who also played the title character in] ‘Firestarter,’ don’t do this again.”

After facing criticism for including 12-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong on their list of nominees, the Razzies have made yet another improvement to their parody awards program.
The Golden Raspberry Awards, a club known for honoring what they believe to be the worst movies and performances of the year, came under fire for placing the “Firestarter” actress in the Worst Actress category.

Armstrong’s name was taken from the ballot, Razzies creator John Wilson said in a statement, and he apologized. Under-18s will no longer be permitted to submit nominations for the awards, he added.
“We have never intended to bury anyone’s career. It is why our Redeemer Award was created. We all make mistakes, very much us included,” Wilson said.
The razzies are already mean-spirited & classless, but to nominate a kid is just repulsive & wrong.

The organizers of the Razzie Awards are listening and taking accountability — for nominating 12-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong for Worst Actress.
The Razzies have decided to rescind Armstrong’s nomination for her performance in the widely-panned Stephen King adaptation, Firestarter. The nomination placed the annual celebration/roast of Hollywood’s most dubious flicks at the center of a fierce backlash, which included criticism from some current and former child actors, like Devon Sawa and Julian Hilliard.
In response, Razzie organizer John Wilson (not that John Wilson) issued an apology, saying, “Sometimes,...

Update:
Earlier this week, the Golden Razzie Awards announced their nominations for this year’s ceremony (of sorts). Among the nominees was 12-year-old Firestarter’s Ryan Kiera Armstrong for Worst Actress. The nomination hit the public domain hard, with cinephiles and general audiences chastising the Razzie organization for targeting a child to highlight misfires in the film industry. Today, the Razzies’ John Wilson responded to the controversy by saying, “Sometimes, you do things without thinking, Then you are called out for it. Then you get it. It’s why the Razzies were created in the first place.”
Wilson added that the negativity toward the nomination is “valid critisism.” He also clarified that Armstrong’s name is stricken from the final ballot and that the group is “adopting a Voting Guideline precluding any performer or film-maker under 18 years of age from being considered for our awards.”
You can read Wilson’s full statement below:

The Razzies, the generally disgusting group that nominates the “worst” movies and performances of the year, used to be a group that was fun and witty but in recent years has curdled into something petty and unflaggingly mean-spirited.
That was – shocker! – the case again this year, when the group nominated 12-year-old actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who starred in last year’s “Firestarter” remake, as Worst Actress. The outrage was, as you can imagine, swift. And on Wednesday, the Razzies issued a predictably weak-tea response apologizing. How noble!
You can read the statement below, which is attributed to John Wilson of the Razzies, someone who we can only assume has created as much art, provided as many jobs and generated as much happiness as all of the performers and filmmakers the awards routinely, cruelly dunk on. (We cleaned up some of the weird spacing and spelling errors as a courtesy.)

The Golden Raspberry Awards, aka the Razzies, which shame actors and filmmakers with an annual “worst of,” is getting blowback for including 12-year-old “Firestarter” actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong in its 2023 nominations, which were revealed on Monday.
Among those jumping in to defend Armstrong was 11-year-old actor Julian Hilliard, who plays Billy Maximoff on “WandaVision.”
“The Razzies are already mean-spirited & classless, but to nominate a kid is just repulsive & wrong. Why put a kid at risk of increased bullying or worse? Be better,” Hilliard tweeted. When someone suggested that that Razzies are just a “joke,” he responded, “Nope, not when it involves a kid. That ‘joke’ can have a very negative impact. They crossed a line.”

Molly Shannon is sharing her memories of an upsetting encounter with the late child star Gary Coleman. The actress appeared on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show where she was asked about meeting the Diff'rent Strokes star. She wrote about the alleged incident in her new memoir, Hello, Molly! Molly Shannon said on a recent episode of “The Howard Stern Show” (via People) that she was sexually harassed by comedian and “Diff’rent Strokes” star Gary Coleman. The “Saturday Night Live” veteran also detailed the alleged incident in her new memoir, “Hello, Molly!” Shannon said she had just signed with Coleman’s manager at the time and got the chance to meet him at his penthouse hotel room.
“I think he was like, ‘Sit down [on the bed].’ It was very sweet,” Shannon said. “And then he’s, like, tickling me a little. This and that.”
Shannon told Coleman that she was “a virgin” and she tried “to be polite” about turning down his advances. Coleman allegedly only became more aggressive with her.
“He was relentless,” Shannon said. “Then, he was like trying to kiss me and get on top and I was like, ‘No, Gary. Stop.’ So, I push him off. Then,...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about Tuesday’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience, which aired live on the East Coast on ABC.
After four decades, cameras rolled once again on the classic ’70s/’80s comedies, Diff’rent Strokes and The Facts of Life, as part of ABC’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience tonight.
Airing live on the East Coast, the telecast unfolded smoothly, with no major line flubs and only a few uneven moments, which passed quickly. Soon-to-be-100-year-old TV legend Norman Lear, appearing with Jimmy Kimmel, who produced the third outing in the Live series, dropped an f-bomb that had to be bleeped. The curse word toward the top of the show seemed to be a staged, though amusing, element.

If the idea of Kevin Hart as Arnold Jackson — the 8-year-old played by Gary Coleman on “Diff’rent Strokes’ — sounds perfect on paper, wait until you see tonight’s “Live in Front of a Studio Audience.” When the 5’4” Hart stands next to the 6’4” John Lithgow — who fills Conrad Bain’s role as Arnold’s adoptive father, Mr. Drummond — the casting is about as spot-on as anything “Live” has done in the past.
And then, when Hart leaps into Lithgow’s lap at one point, expect the live studio audience to erupt. At least, they did on Monday night during a dress rehearsal of “Live in Front of a Studio Audience.” Variety was there to witness the staging of early-series episodes of “The Facts of Life,” which aired on NBC from 1979 to 1988, and “Diff’rent Strokes,” which aired from 1978-1986.

This Tuesday at 8/7c, ABC will revisit two more classic sitcoms, Diff’rent Strokes and its offshoot The Facts of Life, by way of its Live in Front of a Studio Audience franchise.
But whereas these live specials in the past stayed age-accurate in the casting of characters from All in the Family, The Jeffersons and Good Times, this time around Jimmy Kimmel, sitcom titan Norman Lear, Brent Miller and the other exec producers opted to have some fun refilling iconic roles with, let’s say, Actors of a Diff’rent Age.

Ever since NCIS was picked up for its 19th season, fans have been left in the dark over how Mark Harmon will play into things.
Earlier this year, reports emerged that Harmon was plotting his exit from the series, which reportedly pushed CBS to question whether to pick up the series for another season.
Ultimately, the show was renewed for Season 19, and new reports suggested that Harmon will appear as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in a handful of episodes.
If you watch NCIS online, you know the series has set up a potential exit for the actor.
NCIS Season 18 concluded with Gibbs away from the NCIS and surviving an explosion.
Yes, there was an attempt on the beloved character's life, but there's no telling what's on the agenda for the character.
Steven D Binder, the showrunner of the series, has opened up about where things stand heading into NCIS Season 19.

Bill Prady is probably best known as the co-creator of “The Big Bang Theory.” But four years before the launch of that sitcom mega-smash, Prady — on a lark — was among the motley crew of candidates who ran in the 2003 California recall election circus. Now, as California faces another recall drama, this time an effort to remove Gov. Gavin Newsom, there isn’t nearly the same kind of bedlam that led to the election of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
And this time out, Prady is less amused. “I think the Newsom thing is yet another example of politicians exploiting the ‘red team/blue team’ sports nature of politics for their own benefit,” he says. “The GOP so loathes the combination of the supermajority in Sacramento with a Democratic governor that they’re trying to use Covid to change that.”
Variety asked Prady to recall (pun intended) his extremely brief political career, and he...

Joss Whedon threatened Gal Gadot’s career after she pushed back on the director’s revised dialogue for “Justice League,” according to a story in The Hollywood Reporter.
The new detail that Whedon feuded with Gadot and even disparaged “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins came as part of a lengthy interview with Ray Fisher that goes into more detail about his ongoing criticisms of Warner Bros. executives and Whedon.
Fisher declined to comment to THR specifically on anything that transpired between Gadot and the “Justice League” director. But THR quoted a witness who later spoke with investigators as part of the studio’s look into the production who said, “Joss was bragging that he’s had it out with Gal. He told her he’s the writer and she’s going to shut up and say the lines and he can make her look incredibly stupid in this movie.”

Over the last year, “Justice League” star Ray Fisher has used social media to speak out against both the film’s reshoot director Joss Whedon and Warner Bros. executives, but he’s now given his first full sit-down interview on the matter with The Hollywood Reporter. Included in the lengthy Fisher profile are details expanding on the allegedly fraught relationship between Whedon and Fisher’s “Justice League” co-star Gal Gadot.
The “Wonder Woman” actress said in December 2020 that her experience with Whedon was “not the best one,” and now THR reports that, per “a knowledgable source,” Gadot “had multiple concerns with the revised version” of “Justice League.”
The THR report claims that sources shared that “the biggest clash … came when Whedon pushed Gadot to record lines she didn’t like, threatened to harm Gadot’s career and disparaged ‘Wonder Woman’ director Patty Jenkins. While Fisher declines to discuss any of what transpired with Gadot,...

“Harmony, harmony, harmony — no band, no nothing,” explains Charlie Thomas of the Drifters in director Brent Wilson’s Streetlight Harmonies, a new doc tracing the history of doo-wop (premiering tonight on VOD). Doo-wop could be swoony and romantic, playful and mischievous. It was the sweet-voiced sibling to the insouciant rock & roll being made at the same time, and genre classics like “I Only Have Eyes for You,” “In the Still of the Night,” “I Wonder Why,” “Speedoo,” and “Why Must Fools Fall in Love” remade the sound of syncopated pop...
