2001: A Space Odyssey fans will have mixed feelings over Syfy‘s latest project. They have decided to bring the sequel 3001: The Final Odyssey to life as a mini series. The book that came out in 1997 picked up with Frank Poole’s body floating in space and picking right back up where it was left off. Stuart Beattie will write the miniseries, with Ridley Scott and David W. Zucke serving as the producers. Here is what Syfy had to say about the news.

Peter Hyams Takes Us Closer
By
Alex Simon
Peter Hyams has been making movies for over forty years. A native New Yorker, Hyams has the distinction of being one of the only directors who also serves as his own cinematographer on his films, a hyphenate that has caused him some controversy among cameramen (see below for more details). After making his mark with such classics as Capricorn One, Outland, The Star Chamber, 2010, and many others, Hyams hasn't slowed down, bringing us his twenty-first feature film. Enemies Closer is a white-knuckle thriller starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as the ruthless (and flamboyant) leader of a drug cartel on a search and destroy mission for his missing cache of product, which sits at the bottom of a lake on the U.S.-Canadian border. Tom Everett Scott plays the U.S. Park Ranger with a murky past who tries to stop him, along...

Some new screenshots have arrived showcasing one of the earlier levels in the upcoming The War of the Worlds game, Paddington Station, where the game's unique platforming aspects and control scheme are introduced to the player. In addition we have concept art depicting protagonist Arthur Clarke scaling a gigantic piece of Martian machinery whilst avoiding the deadly spotlights of the drones.
Topping it all off is the first "Arthur Diaries" video featuring snippets of gameplay voiced by the game's narrator and one of the coolest cats around, Sir Patrick Stewart. Engage!
Synopsis:
The War of the Worlds is a dark and breathtaking new vision inspired by the classic H.G. Wells novel, retold as a single player, 2D action-adventure. The gameplay narrative parallels the timeline and events from the 1953 movie adaptation but introduces a new story arc, characters, locations, and sub-plots. With gameplay paying homage to classic cinematic platformers such as Out of This World,...

As David Fincher awaits his first Oscar for The Social Network, he’s promoting the DVD and briefly talking on his 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea adaptation for Disney, his long-gestating Rendezous With Rama and, of course, the upcoming The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo film, starring Rooney Mara (via /Film).
Here’s what he had to say on Leagues:
- The film will be in 3D (ain’t getting more than that, so hush)
On Rama:
- “I think that there’s a lot of movies that could be my next film,” Fincher said, but the Arthur C.Clarke adaptation is on the shortlist.
- ” [Rama] has an amazing role for Morgan Freeman who is an amazing actor and would be amazing in this thing. The question was can we get a script that’s worthy of Morgan and can we get a script that is worthy of Arthur Clarke…”
