The “Ted” prequel series has been renewed for Season 2 at Peacock, Variety has learned.
Originally presented as an event series, the seven-episode first season of “Ted” debuted on the streamer in January. It serves as a prequel to the two “Ted” feature films, which were released in 2012 and 2015.
Per Peacock, the show became its most-watched original title to date and was also the top streaming comedy in the U.S. for more than two consecutive months, according to Nielsen data.
The series takes place in the early 1990s in Framingham, Mass. It follows the lives of Ted (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) and his 16 year old best friend, John (Max Burkholder). Ted’s fame has waned and he is now once again living with John and his family.
The series also stars Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach as John’s parents, Matty and Susan, along with Giorgia Whigham as John’s cousin Blaire.

Seth MacFarlane and Peacock aren’t done with Ted yet.
The NBCUniversal-owned streamer has ordered a second season of the comedy, a prequel to the two feature films that have the MacFarlane-voiced living teddy bear at their center. Peacock originally billed Ted as an “event series,” but it will now be an ongoing show.
The renewal comes about four months after Ted premiered on Peacock to solid ratings in January. It was the top streaming comedy in the United States for about two months after its debut, and Peacock says the series is its most-watched original to date. It also put up strong showings in other countries, notably on Sky in the U.K., FOX8 and streaming service Binge in Australia and Showcase in Canada.

Peacock has given a second-season pickup to Ted, the prequel TV series to Seth MacFarlane’s Ted film franchise.
The seven-episode initial installment of Ted, released January 11, was billed as an event series. Its overwhelming ratings success, becoming Peacock’s most-watched original series to date and the No. 1 original streaming comedy in the U.S. for more than two consecutive months in the Nielsen rankings, naturally triggered a conversation about a second season.
Despite Ted‘s excellent performance, the renewal decision was not straightforward, I hear, as the comedy’s hybrid live-action/CGI nature makes it expensive to produce, and it also takes a long time to make.
Still, keeping its biggest hit was important to Peacock, and four months after the Season 1 drop, the streamer has ordered a second season.
Set in 1993, Ted comes from writer, director, executive producer and showrunner MacFarlane.

Emily Blunt is known for her versatile roles and collaborations with esteemed directors, which include Christopher Nolan, Rob Marshall, Rian Johnson, and Denis Villeneuve. Therefore, it’s not really a surprise she delivered excellent performances in films like Sicario, The Devil Wears Prada, Looper, and Mary Poppins Returns. In fact, she has also worked with the likes of Cillian Murphy for Oppenheimer even bowled over the entire cast of the film with one scene.
Another scene featuring Emily Blunt in Oppenheimer
Emily Blunt’s infectious energy and her commitment to every role she undertakes have propelled her to the very top of the entertainment industry. Peacock this morning dropped the official trailer for its new live-action “Ted” prequel event series from creator/executive producer/writer/director/co-showrunner/star Seth MacFarlane that will roll out all seven of its episodes (including a supersized premiere) January 11, 2024, extending the film franchise that produced movies in 2012 and 2015. It promises to take fans “on a hilarious R-rated journey back to the ’90s” along with more of the concept’s signature raunchy humor, eye-popping special effects and a fresh cast of characters played by Max Burkholder (“Parenthood”), Alanna Ubach (“Euphoria”), Scott Grimes (“The Orville”) and Giorgia Whigham (“13 Reasons Why”). They join the iconic teddy bear, Ted, voiced as in the movies by MacFarlane. Watch the trailer above.

After the big screen delivered the marijuana and beer-fueled antics of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) and his living teddy bear in Seth MacFarlane's "Ted" franchise, the raunchy debauchery of the longtime friends is coming to Peacock in the form of a prequel TV series. Thankfully, since this is streaming, "Ted" can be just as raunchy as the movies. However, because this is a prequel series, there's no Mark Wahlberg screwing around with Ted. Instead, we have a 16-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder) enduring the trials and tribulations of high school with Ted by his side, and having a living teddy bear as your best friend in school goes about as well as you'd expect for a teenager in the 1990s.

When director Tim Story’s horror comedy The Blackening was released back in June, co-writer and star Dewayne Perkins told Variety that he envisioned the film being the start of a franchise, one that could bring back the “same group, sprinkle in some new people. I feel like we’ve got something good, and I love the dynamic, but fresh blood always turns things up a little bit.” Now Variety has confirmed that a sequel to The Blackening is officially in development!
The Blackening didn’t exactly set the box office of fire, earning just $18.5 million… but since the movie had a budget of $3 million (plus another $2 million for marketing), that’s enough for producer MRC and domestic distributor Lionsgate to feel that it’s worth going back to for a sequel. They’re developing the follow-up with Perkins, co-writer Tracy Oliver, and producer E. Brian Dobbins.

MRC and Lionsgate are developing a sequel to “The Blackening,” the hit horror-comedy from Dewayne Perkins and Tracy Oliver.
After the microbudget production (just $5 million) made more than $18 million at the box office, producer MRC and domestic distributor Lionsgate have entered into talks with Perkins, Oliver and producer E. Brian Dobbins to develop a follow-up film.
Directed by Tim Story and co-written by Perkins and Oliver, “The Blackening” follows a group of college friends who reunite for Juneteenth weekend and are hunted by a killer who asks them to determine who is the Blackest among them — lampooning the common horror movie trope that sees the Black character die first. Perkins initially conceived the story as a sketch for his comedy troupe 3Peat, which developed into a short for Comedy Central, before Oliver reached out to develop it into a feature.

Seth MacFarlane’s foul-mouthed bear Ted is back with a message for his future self.
“Dear future Ted, it’s me, 1993 Ted. If you’re reading this, it means we got a new series on the most successful streaming platform ever,” he says, before his future self quips — “Eh, we got a new series.”
“Is the future amazing? I bet NASA sends people to the moon all the time,” 1993 Ted adds, to which his future self replies: “Moon colony? Negative. Unlimited porn in our pockets? Check.”
“Anyway, I can’t wait to see your world of flying cars, normal weather and new TV characters that don’t just rehash old stuff,” 1993 Ted concludes his letter, to which future Ted jokes: “Poor bum, had so much hope.”

Directed by Tim Story (Ride Along, Think Like A Man, Barbershop) and co-written by Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip, Harlem) and Dewayne Perkins (“The Amber Ruffin Show,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), The Blackening skewers genre tropes and poses the sarcastic question: if the entire cast of a horror movie is Black, who dies first?
The Blackening stars Antoinette Robertson, Dewayne Perkins, Sinqua Walls, Grace Byers, X Mayo, Melvin Gregg, Jermaine Fowler, Yvonne Orji, and Jay Pharoah.

Lionsgate will be giving director Tim Story’s horror comedy The Blackening a theatrical release on June 16th – and with two weeks to go until that date arrives, a clip from the film has shown up online. This clip shows a run-in with the character Ranger White, played by Diedrich Bader of Office Space and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, and you can check it out in the embed above.
Story directed The Blackening from a screenplay by Tracy Oliver and Dewayne Perkins. Inspired by a Perkins-scripted 3Peat comedy sketch that aired on Comedy Central in 2018, the film is about a group of Black friends who go away for the weekend only to find themselves trapped in a cabin with a killer who forces them to play a game with life-or-death consequences. The idea asks a reasonable question: since it seems that Black characters are usually the earliest victims in horror films,...

Set to premiere on Sunday, September 10th on Fox is The Orville, an hour-long sci-fi dramedy created by Seth MacFarlane (who also co-stars) and featuring a talented ensemble including Adrianne Palicki, Scott Grimes, Penny Johnson Jerald, Chad L. Coleman, J. Lee, Mark Jackson, and more. During the 2017 Comic-Con, Daily Dead briefly chatted with the trio of executive producers behind The Orville—Brannon Braga, Jason Clark, and David A. Goodman—and they discussed the balance of humor and heart in the new series, collaborating with MacFarlane, and more.
Some of Seth’s other shows often do send-ups on different aspects of pop culture. Will The Orville be something different? It’s not just making fun of Star Trek for an hour, I’m guessing.
Brannon Braga: Yeah, it's not making fun of shows like that at all. Or science fiction in general. It's its own thing. If anything, it's a...

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more outrageous, Ted and his Bff are back in the hilarious, boundary-busting buddy comedy, Ted 2, coming to Digital HD on November 24, 2015, and Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, DVD and On Demand on December 15, 2015, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
The follow up to Ted, the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time, Ted 2 features more of the hysterically raunchy banter that has made writer-director-actor Seth MacFarlane an entertainment world powerhouse—as well as a touching story of brotherly love. Both the Blu-ray™ and DVD include an Unrated extended edition that features never-before-seen footage that was too rude for the cinema, but makes this year’s most outrageous comedy the perfect gift for fans of this very adult spin on a childhood icon.

Universal has unveiled the latest trailer for Seth MacFarlane’s comedy sequel, Ted 2, and it retains all of the tenets of the director’s outrageous, on-the-nose style of humor: dick jokes, race and more sexual innuendos than you can shake your furry first at.
Centering around the titular, pint-sized loudmouth, the follow-up will orbit around Ted’s quest to land some reputable civil rights, although such a feat will require the crude protagonist to make a valuable contribution to society itself. How will he achieve this, you ask? Well, despite his fuzzy anatomy, Ted reveals his burning desire to have a baby with his bride-to-be Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth reprising her role as the dim-witted love interest), though to do this he will need to collect a sperm sample.
And so, alongside partner-in-crime John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), the dynamic duo set out to make Ted’s dream a reality, encountering...

You'd expect the sequel to Ted to be just as crazy, crude, and over the top as the first. More than likely it will be, but you wouldn't know it from the film's first trailer which debuted just a little bit ago:
Obviously this isn't a red band trailer so they have to be on their best behavior for now, but it's still kind of odd to see how "normal" this movie is looking. Frankly, it's a little off-putting as well, since the raunchy humor is a big part of the first movie's appeal. That's not to say this movie will be bad, I just think the first trailer played it a little too safe. The premise...

Hot on the fuzzy heels of Tuesday’s tongue-in-cheek poster is the first full-length trailer for Seth MacFarlane’s comedy sequel, Ted 2.
Reuniting The Gambler star Mark Wahlberg with his pint-sized companion, the clip sees the thunder buddies in a spot of legal bother with Ted having to prove his credentials as human by providing a valuable contribution to society (okay, stop sniggering at the back). Such a predicament will see the dynamic, foul-mouthed duo encounter Morgan Freeman’s sharp-suited lawyer and Amanda Seyfried’s Samantha Lesley Jackson — cue the comparisons to a certain other Samuel L. Jackson.
It’s the latter star who will also turn out to be a love interest for Wahlberg’s John Bennett — in lieu of Mila Kunis — while Ted encounters relationship quandaries of his own when he and his new wife make plans to have a baby. Interestingly, Liam Nesson is absent from this newly-released trailer,...

Universal Pictures just released the first poster for Ted 2 and it’s suggestive to say the least. It’s pretty much in line with the previous installments humor and that of creator Seth Macfarlane.
We still don’t know for sure what the sequel is about, but the first trailer hits on Thursday so that should give an idea.

Two films forgotten by the Academy, the animated adventure "The Lego Movie" and the Roger Ebert Documentary "Life Itself," triumphed at the recently concluded 2015 Producers Guild Awards.
"The Lego Movie" took home the Award for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures for producer Dan Lin while "Life Itself" won the Award for Outstanding Producer of Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures for producers Garrett Basch, Steve James, and Zak Piper.
Meanwhile, Alejandro G. Iñárritu, John Lesher, and James W. Skotchdopole took the Oscar glitter away from Richard Linklater's "Boyhood" when "Birdman" was awarded the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures.
The Oscars just got interesting! Will "Boyhood" triumph over "Birdman" at the Academy Awards?
In TV land, NBC was the big winner of the evening with two of their shows taking home trophies for Competition Television ("The Voice") and Live Entertainment & Talk Television ("The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon...
