The final trailer for Netflix’s 3 Body Problem teases that “they” are coming and reveals the discovery in the ’70s of something called the “Wow” signal. There’s a lot going on in the final trailer, yet it still manages to pull off being as vague as possible. If you haven’t read Liu Cixin’s 3 Body Problem book trilogy, the trailer will hint at what’s in store without spoiling the experience.
Game of Thrones‘ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and True Blood‘s Alexander Woo created the series and serve as writers, showrunners, and executive producers. Netflix’s Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Series, encouraged Benioff and Weiss to read the trilogy back in 2019, and both were immediately hooked.

Game of Thrones ended, and David Benioff and Dan Weiss had to figure out what to do next.
The writer-producers had made the biggest TV hit of the 21st century, and the most Emmy-winning drama of all time — and it was their very first show. HBO’s Thrones had a spectacular eight-season run, a global phenomenon that was reputationally marred by a 2019 final season that fans loudly considered disappointing. In the online space, at least, Benioff and Weiss’ obsessive, day-and-night efforts to pull off a production that was unprecedented in its difficulty were shrugged aside. Psychologists call this the “peak-end rule” — how people feel about the end of something tends to color how they feel about all of it. And many fans felt raw about the end of Thrones.
After the finale, Benioff and Weiss, who never participated in social media and only reluctantly gave interviews, even when Thrones’ was at its pinnacle,...

Netflix is giving us a sneak peek at its new sci-fi series “3 Body Problem,” from “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
In a new clip released Friday, “Game of Thrones” actor John Bradley is transported to a dystopian world after putting on a distinctly nonelectronic metallic helmet.
“There’s no screen — there’s no headphone jack, there’s not even a f–king charging port,” Bradley says in the clip. “Usually there’d be logos all over it if it was a Sony or an Oculus, or whatnot — it’s probably a beta tester.”
“No, this is not beta anything,” Jess Hong, who also stars in the series, tells Bradley’s character. “You don’t understand — this was indistinguishable from anything from reality.
After confirming that there is no password needed to log in the system, Bradley’s character puts on the headpiece, and is immediately...

“3 Body Problem,” a new Netflix sci-fi series from “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, finally has a first teaser as Netflix announced on Saturday that the show will premiere in January 2024.
“As children, we fear the dark. Anything might be out there. The unknown troubles us,” an unseen man says in a voiceover. “There are those who say we should not inquire too closely, and, to who else might be living in that darkness, better not to know. But we continue to search. Life looks for life.”
As he speaks, the teaser flashes between scenes of people rioting, flashlights taking in a mysterious code that appears to be written in blood, a gnarled hand moving in water and a woman walking over lava. The clip then ends with dozens of what appear to be Roman soldiers being sucked into the sky.

The Nevers has gotten off to a great start for HBO. Sunday night’s premiere of the Victorian science fiction drama series drew just over 1.4 million viewers across linear telecasts and digital, including the best start for a new HBO Original on HBO Max, according to the premium cabler. The debut episode surpassed viewership for premieres of recent HBO dramas including Lovecraft Country and The Undoing, and viewership is expected to grow via additional telecasts and viewing across platforms, HBO said.
Starring Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly, The Nevers is set in August, 1896, the last years of Victoria’s reign, when London is ocked to its foundations by a supernatural event which gives certain people – mostly women – abnormal abilities, from the wondrous to the disturbing. But no matter their particular “turns,” all who belong to this new underclass are in grave danger. It falls to mysterious, quick-fisted widow Amalia True...

HBO released the trailer for its Joss Whedon-created drama series “The Nevers” on Tuesday, featuring stars Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly as the leaders of a group of “touched” people in Victorian England who are feared by those without their abnormal gifts.
In the video, which you can view above, the mysterious Amalia True (Donnelly) and Penance Adair (Skelly) band together to protect their fellow supernatural people from those threatened by them. This includes the local authorities, who say they want “the wicked punished and the good protected” — but have a skewed idea of who is who.

A year after signing an overall deal with Netflix, “Game of Thrones” creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are planning their first drama series since their HBO epic ended last year. The pair are adapting Chinese author Liu Cixin’s sci-fi trilogy “The Three-Body Problem” for the streamer with the help of a long list of collaborators that include Rian Johnson, Alexander Woo, and Rosamund Pike. (Via Deadline)
The first novel, for which Liu became the first writer in Asia to win the prestigious Hugo Award in 2015, is set during the Cultural Revolution when humans establish contact with an alien civilization on the edge of extinction. After the aliens invade earth, humans split off into two camps: one in favor of takeover by the superior aliens and the other determined to resist.

Netflix’s search for a big genre series with international appeal to match HBO’s Game of Thrones and Amazon Prime’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series may have come to an end.
The streamer announced today that it has secured the rights to Liu Cixin’s international bestselling sci-fi books The Three-Body Problem (also known as the Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy) and will adapt them into an English-language TV series. The big project has some appropriately big names attached to shepherd it.
Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will both write and executive produce the series, marking their first effort since inking an overall deal with Netflix last year. Alexander Woo (The Terror: Infamy) will write and executive produce as well, as will Bernadette Caulfield, who is a former Game of Thrones writer and is now President of Benioff and Weiss’s production company.

Netflix has ordered a drama series based on the award-winning Chinese book series “The Three-Body Problem” with David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo set to write and executive produce.
The series order covers all three books in the trilogy — “The Three-Body Problem,” “The Dark Forest,” and “Death’s End,” all of which were written by Liu Cixin. They tell the story of humanity’s first contact with an alien civilization. Netflix struck a deal with The Three-Body Universe and Yoozoo Group for the rights to produce an English-language adaptation of the books.
“Liu Cixin’s trilogy is the most ambitious science-fiction series we’ve read, taking readers on a journey from the 1960s until the end of time, from life on our pale blue dot to the distant fringes of the universe,” Benioff and Weiss said. “We look forward to spending the next years of our lives bringing this...

The last two Producers Guild of America Awards told us which movies — “Green Book” (2019) and “The Shape of Water” (2018) — would win the Oscar for Best Picture weeks before the Academy Awards. In fact, 21 of the previous PGA Awards winners have then gone on to claim Best Picture victories.
For the 31st annual ceremony slated for Saturday, January 18 at the Hollywood Palladium, we already know the top choice will be at the very least a major front-runner for this year’s Oscar. The PGA’s 10 nominated films are “Ford v Ferrari,” “The Irishman,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “Joker,” “Knives Out,” “Little Women,” “Marriage Story,” “1917,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “Parasite.” All but “Knives Out” contend at the Oscars for Best Picture.
