I’ve always felt that the 1979 horror film Tourist Trap (watch it Here) deserves a lot more respect and attention than it gets – and that star Chuck Connors (best known for The Rifleman) deserved the “genre icon” career he was aiming for when he signed on for the movie. Barbara Crampton is someone who did achieve a genre icon career, and she clearly believes there was something great going on with Tourist Trap, because our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that she is producing a remake of the film!
Crampton is the Vice President of Production & Development at Alliance Media Partners, and the company has just acquired the rights to make a new version of Tourist Trap. Crampton will be producing the film alongside Bob Portal, who is Amp’s Managing Director & Head of Production.

It’s time for a new episode of the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw video series, and in this one we’re looking back at a movie I have a great deal of fondness for, the 1979 Charles Band production Tourist Trap (watch it Here)! To find out why we think you should check out Tourist Trap, take a look at the video embedded above.
Directed by David Schmoeller, who also wrote the screenplay with J. Larry Carroll, Tourist Trap stars Chuck Connors as Mr. Slausen, a telekinetic psychopath who lures a group of young people to his ramshackle roadside attraction, unleashing an army of psychically controlled mannequins and other monstrosities upon them. As the terrified youths fight for their lives, secrets are revealed and shock follows shock until the movie reaches its nightmarish, unforgettable finale.

We have a very eclectic mix of Blu-rays for you in this latest Blu-ray column. In fact, I can't remember a time when I've rounded up such an odd assortment of films. Not only do we have the new 4K release of "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre," but we also have the animated "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish," the beautiful drama "The Remains of the Day," and Dario Argento's "Phenomena" just to cap things off. Like I said: eclectic.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 4K
Often copied, never duplicated, there will never be anything like "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" again. Even after all these years, Tobe Hooper's tale of some travelers who run afoul of a cannibal family is terrifying. Why? Because it feels like something we shouldn't be seeing. The rough, raw style makes the entire movie feel like a documentary; like someone created a...

I thought I was done buying The Texas Chain Saw Massacre after upgrading to the 40th anniversary edition Blu-ray in 2014. Between the crisp presentation and the copious extras, I was certain it was the definitive version of Tobe Hooper‘s 1974 masterpiece. Yet here I am, nearly a decade later, ready to sing the praises of Dark Sky Films‘ 4K Ultra HD edition.
Long before “gritty” was an industry buzzword, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre epitomized the term. As such, one might be wary that a 4K restoration could hinder the viewing experience, but that is not at all the case. Utilizing the 4K scan from the aforementioned Blu-ray, which was approved by Hooper, and now with a wider color gamut courtesy of Hdr, the picture is presented in staggering clarity while maintaining the 16mm film grain. The oppressive heat is virtually palpable.

Directed by Tobe Hooper from a script he wrote with Kim Henkel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has the following synopsis: When Sally hears that her grandfather’s grave may have been vandalized, she and her paraplegic brother, Franklin, set out with their friends to investigate. I had a vague memory of a movie that I saw a long time ago about an ancient Samurai warrior who wakes up in the modern day after being frozen in ice for over 400 years. I’ve been trying to remember the name of this movie for a long time and I finally found it!
The movie is a 1984 film called Ghost Warrior and it centers around a 400-year-old samurai warrior named Yoshimitsu Taga, who is found in a cave and entombed in ice. He ends up being transported to the United States in a secret operation and revived through cryosurgery. He then escapes and ends up going on a killing rampage in Los Angeles! The description says that he is “forced to battle for his freedom, dignity and life.”
The tagline for the movie is: “100 Years Ago He Was A Legend . . . Today, He's A Living Hell.”
Do any of you remember seeing this movie?...

Long Awol from Home Video — the last time I peeked it was an unwatchable pan-and-scanned laserdisc — this early Charles Band opus came at a time when the purveyor of third-class horror thrills could command a budget. A rather phenomenal list of ’70s special effects hopefuls collaborated to give the show lasting appeal, mainly by including some stop motion monsters from a parallel dimension. An average American family spends a chaotic night battling bizarre phemoneema… phelomea… stuff that’s leaked into our reality through that nuisance Sci-fi catch-all, a Time-Space Warp. A pair of big name stars twenty years past their sell-by date endure all manner of rubber critters, zipping flying saucers and green-glowing supernatural artifacts!

It is fitting that Tourist Trap came out in 1979. This was a year of variety in horror with everything from Ridley Scott’s Alien to Lucio Fulci’s Zombie. From space creatures to the walking dead and all points in between, this was the end of a decade and Tourist Trap couldn’t have been made at any other time. It’s magnificently weird.
Released in March by Compass International Pictures, Tourist Trap was not a commercial or critical success. That’s a real shame because it possesses a unique ability to get under the skin of the viewer with the oddest of fears: Mannequins. Have you ever been shopping and felt the dead eyed gaze of these department store statues? Ever felt they were watching…and waiting? Well sit back and strap in as things are about to get strange.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Written by Kim Henkel and Tobe Hooper
Directed by Tobe Hooper
USA, 1974
Now a legendary horror film, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as it seems to be called just as often (hereafter Tcsm either way), was at the time of its release a most unusual feature. Why the movie still resonates today though, why it still has such a strong cult following, and why it remains one of the genre’s greatest entries, is for many of the same reasons it was so groundbreaking in 1974. The Vietnam-era angst has since dissipated (or has perhaps been replaced by a new sort of battle fatigue) and the notion of a post-Night of the Living Dead horror film renaissance has certainly gone by the wayside, but Tcsm remains just as expressive and as masterfully effective it ever was.

We all knew that there would be a new Blu-ray release of Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chain Saw Massacre back when they started screening a new 4K scan of the film in theaters, so when it went up on Amazon as a pre-order, it came as no surprise. However, shortly thereafter, something appeared on Amazon that intrigued fans, and came with absolutely no explanation. It was called the Black Maria Limited Edition, and cost $70.00. Now, a lot of us have already pre-ordered Scream Factory’s $80.00 Nightbreed set, so that kind of price for a single movie isn’t exactly unprecedented, but up until that point, not a single thing had been announced in regards to this set, so it has remained a mystery until today. A press release was sent out, detailing all of the specifics of all of the various releases, including a description, and photo of the contents of the mysterious Limited Edition.

It's been quite a few months since we've had an update on Patricio Valladares' remake of his own film Hidden in the Woods, but our patience has paid off because today we have a new teaser trailer to share.
Hidden in the Woods is a remake of Patricio Valladares' 2012 Chilean horror film En las afueras de la ciudad with Valladares back at the helm. The story follows two sisters raised by their abusive father in a remote locale who must answer to their drug baron uncle when their father is imprisoned.
Michael Biehn stars alongside William Forsythe. Jennifer Blanc-Biehn produces with Loris Curci and Hackybox Pictures. The film's co-stars include Mma fighter Krzysztof Soszynski, Chris Browning ("Sons of Anarchy," The Book of Eli), Ricco Ross (Aliens), Jeannine Kaspar (“House of Lies,” “Nip/Tuck”), Andy Mackenzie (Sushi Girl, "True Blood"), Electra Avellan (Grindhouse, Machete Kills), Mark Burnham (Wrong, Wrong Cops), Jennifer Blanc (The Victim,...

The slasher film does not have that much of a history of being scary. Mostly it’s about some psychopathic killer who easily stalks down his/her victim while they run for their lives but never quite manage to escape. This is of course unless they are pure and virginal deeming them the one to survive for moralistic value. I find that it’s quite rare to find a truly creepy slasher, which is why it was so nice to finally discover Tourist Trap.

With filming of Blanc/Biehn Productions' remake of Hidden in the Woods set to begin July 1st in and around Houston, Texas, all the major players are lining up, and handling effects will be Vincent Guastini's V.G.P. Effects & Design Studio.
Hidden in the Woods star Michael Biehn met Guastini when they briefly worked together on Sushi Girl (in which Hitw co-star Andy Mackenzie also appeared), and Biehn was so impressed with V.G.P.'s work, the producers asked Guastini to come on board and supervise with Evelyn Belmar and Vanessa Cartier. Some of Guastini's previous credits include Silent Night, ColdWater, The Devil's Carnival, Under the Bed, and Hansel & Gretel Get Baked, just to name a few.

The Day Time Ended
Stars: Jim Davis, Christopher Mitchum, Dorothy Malone, Marcy Lafferty, Natasha Ryan | Written by Wayne Schmidt, J. Larry Carroll & David Schmoeller | Directed by John ‘Bud’ Carlos
Sometimes you pick the films you’re going to review based entirely on how ridiculous the titles are. It works for a while: you get a few choice so-bad-they’re-good b-movies and the occasional left-field gem, and most of the time the title alone is worth the movie’s inevitable failure to live up to its own hype.
And then you come across a film like The Day Time Ended.
I’d tell you the plot, but I’m really not sure it has one. The opening narration is so badly mixed that I couldn’t tell if it was part of the story or just an old Shatner record played backwards. IMDb relays it thusly: “Aliens visit the solar-powered house of a middle-class family,...

Tourist Trap
Stars: Chuck Connors, Jocelyn Jones, Jon Van Ness, Robin Sherwood, Tanya Roberts, Dawn Jeffory | Written by David Schmoeller, J. Larry Carroll | Directed by David Schmoeller
In the middle of nowhere on a road that has been made redundant by a new highway is a little museum made up of mannequins and run by a seemingly nice man known as Mr. Slausen. When tourists turn...

New Robert Pattinson,Kristen Stewart dating origins details revealed by Twilight writer. According to Hollywood Life, Twilight writer Larry Carroll recently hit up Twitter to reveal new details of how Twilight mega stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson started dating way back on the first Twilight set way back in 2008. He wrote, "They were Very into building chemistry, barely knew each other then. To play such intimate characters for several movies, they knew they had a lot of work to do. Both of them take acting very seriously, even then when relatively young." He went on to reveal that they shared books, watched movies together, and hit up local clubs with other actors. Also, "as soon as Catherine called ‘Cut!’ they’d almost always head off together." He went on to talk about how their chemistry was undeniable. "I was on set for 2 full days, and the only time they...

A writer who spent two days with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart when they were shooting the first 'Twilight' film in 2008 tells the story of how Robsten hit it off almost immediately on set. You don't want to miss these new details! Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart hardly knew each other when they were cast to play eternal lovers, Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, in the The Twilight Saga four years ago. In order to make their love believable, the dedicated actors spent every waking hour together...and quickly "work" turned into real-life dating. "They were Very into building chemistry, barely knew each other then," writer Larry Carroll wrote on Twitter March 8, remembering his two-day visit to the Twilight set back in 2008. "To play such intimate characters for several movies, they knew they had a lot of work to do. Both of them take acting very seriously, even then when relatively young.

If you have Netflix and are a horror fan in need of something to watch this Labor Day weekend, one look at this gargantuan list I compiled of the new terror titles Netflix has added for instant streaming in just the first three days of this month should keep you busy until Labor Day next year. You'll find something for everyone, from older titles to recent releases, famous to obscure, classic to not-so-classic, monsters to maniacs - you name it.
For the record, I considered compiling this list in alphabetical order or by year of the film's release, but then I realized I had already spent well over an hour just sorting through the massive catalogue of titles Netflix has now made available for instant streaming and realized Labor Day would be over by the time I finished arranging this list in any kind of order. Ready? Here you go.

Reboot's rookie stars weigh in on how the genre that gave us Johnny Depp and Kevin Bacon has changed.
By Larry Carroll
Kellan Lutz in "Nightmare on Elm Street"
Photo: Warner Bros.
Beverly Hills, California — Back in the 1980s, horror movies were to film what soap operas were to TV: an aspiring actor's proving ground. It wasn't unreasonable to think that if you were lucky enough to land a part in a slasher flick, you could be the next Jamie Lee Curtis ("Halloween"), Kevin Bacon ("Friday the 13th") or Johnny Depp ("A Nightmare on Elm Street"). Young actors lined up for the chance to be hunted, slashed and drenched in Karo syrup.
But those were the '80s. These days, the genre is being remade. Cheapie exploitation flicks have morphed into high-profile movies, produced by the likes of Michael Bay and featuring iconic onscreen killers guaranteed to generate a $15 million to $20 million opening weekend.

Summertime, and the living is ... queasy? It certainly is if you're a studio executive with hundreds of millions of dollars riding on the hope that somebody out there wants to see your movie.
Every year, studio suits adhere to certain recipes for perceived summer success. With that in mind and the year's most-contested season upon us, here are the five ingredients that seem to be making up the 2010 crop of hopeful summer hits:
Give it a "name": When it comes to getting a greenlight in Hollywood today, it's all about the name. If people remember the "Sex and the City" TV show, there's a built-in audience for the movie (May 27). "Marmaduke" (June 4) may be a bit on the obscure side for most children today,...

In "Beastly,"however, the actress, with her hair brushed into her face, plays timid and looks like the girl in a movie before the big makeover scene. 'Harry Potter' star made his Broadway debut in 'Equus.'

It seems that Broadway is just wild about Harry — again.
Daniel Radcliffe is heading back to the Great White Way with a revival of the 1961 Pulitzer Prize-winning musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," following in the footsteps of his headline-generating run in "Equus." Tony winner Rob Ashford, who is currently overseeing "Promises, Promises" on Broadway, is scheduled to direct and choreograph "How to Succeed."
Radcliffe, who beat out hundreds at age 11 to land the coveted role of Harry Potter, has starred in six massively successful films as the boy wizard; the finale of the series, two movies based on J.K.

Neil Patrick Harris

Las Vegas — These days, our entire nation seems to have fallen in love with Neil Patrick Harris. It's only appropriate, then, that this summer he'll be giving advice on affairs of the heart to one of the all-time classic couples.
"The movie is called 'Beastly,' and I think the MTV cats might like it," grinned the endlessly charismatic actor, who in just over five years has gone from a forgotten "Doogie Howser" punch line to the versatile star of everything from "How I Met Your Mother" to the "Harold & Kumar" films. "It's a modern-day take on 'Beauty and the Beast.' It's stylish and very sleek in its presentation.
"Mary-Kate Olsen is a supporting star; Vanessa Hudgens is the lead — she's gorgeous,...

'It's darker and way sexier,' Hudgens says of their new take on 'Beauty and the Beast.'

Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens
Photo: MTV News
Las Vegas — Originally published in 1740, "Beauty and the Beast" has endured for centuries as a book, play, 1946 French film, acclaimed 1987 TV show and 1991 animated Disney classic. But if you think you can predict what the new version starring Vanessa Hudgens will be like — well, you haven't paid attention to the story's central message: You need to look deeper to truly understand something.
"Uh, no!" was the response of fast-rising British heartthrob Alex Pettyfer when we interviewed him and Hudgens recently and asked if July 30's "Beastly" is anything like Disney's take on the classic tale.
"It's a modern take on 'Beauty and The Beast,' except it's darker and way sexier," explained Hudgens, insisting it's also a long way...

Think you've seen Darth Vader slicing off Luke's hand? Think you've been there on the Titanic as Jack gives Rose one last deep, everlasting kiss? Think you comprehend the true beauty of Gollum's precious? Well, think again.
All week long MTV News is turning our red-and-blue glasses towards 3-D, the trend currently re-inventing how we see movies. But not everything coming up is "Clash of the Titans" and "The Smurfs." The revolution is also fueling a series of re-releases of your all-time favorite films, promising to put you inside yesterday's blockbusters as never before. You've already seen Dustin's ranking of the five best Super Bowl commercials from last night. Notice that none of them are movie previews? That's because the trailers shown during the big game both sucked and were for the most part old. And they were for films you really couldn't give two burning, post-Super Bowl Sunday shits about, like The Last Airbender and, umm, The Back-Up Plan. Since when do football fans like J.Lo rom-coms about sperm-donor pregnancy?
What Hollywood needs to do, besides saving any money it's thinking about spending on movies like The Back-Up Plan and advertising of such movie, is go outside the box in their Super Bowl spots. If you're going to spend the $3 million for the time, spend a lil more and get Russell Crowe and his Merry Men to do a non-clip preview for Robin Hood in which they're playing football against Prince John and his army.

As a Best Actress and Worst Actress nominee, Bullock continues on a divergent career path.
By Larry Carroll
Sandra Bullock

For seven long years, she was the girl in that failed movie/ TV show that you vaguely recognized. In 1994, she took the bus ride from hell with Keanu Reeves and became America's new sweetheart. Now, after a decade and a half as the A-list star of various chick-flick hits, Sandra Bullock has begun a new stage of her career: Oscar nominee.
Oddly enough, Bullock's sweet success was made bitter by another distinction: a Razzie nomination for Worst Actress. Being simultaneously nominated as the best and worst at your job is something truly rare. Yet, for Bullock, such a dichotomy seems oddly appropriate.
"I could not begin to tell you about the plot of the movie, because we'd be here for one hour and 35 minutes. I literally can't.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

One of the things fans love about Joseph Gordon-Levitt is that he is a star who always marches to the beat of his own drum. From belting out an old "Singin' in the Rain" tune on "Saturday Night Live" to filming music videos with Zooey Deschanel to appearing in the weirdest cameo ever for "The Brothers Bloom," you never know what you're going to get from the guy next. And over the past few Sundances, he's turned the table on the media by pointing a camera right back at us.
Recently, the "(500) Days of Summer" star gave us an exclusive tour of the side project that has turned him into a shutterbug for the Internet age: hitRECord.

Todrick Hall on "American Idol" Wednesday
Photo: Fox
Every "American Idol" season yields a few fresh new faces that become instant stars. On Wednesday's (January 27) episode, however, some die-hard fans were excited to see a familiar one who could be headed for the top.
Todrick Hall, a 24-year-old "actor/playwright" from Arlington, Texas, was one of the contestants seen auditioning in the latest "Idol" installment, earning him a golden ticket to Hollywood. But he is hardly a newcomer to the entertainment scene, with a résumé that could further endear him to "Idol" fans.
"You were with Fantasia in 'The Color Purple'?" judge Kara DioGuardi asked him as he came out to audition, referring to Hall's stint on Broadway with the winner of Season 3, in a show produced by...
