Academy Award Submission for Nomination Best Foreign Language Film: Cuba: ‘The Companion’ Interview with Pavel Giroud1988, Cuba, those infected with HIV or suffering from AIDS were given free room, board and medical treatment at a beautiful facility called “Los Cocos”. Except for the criminals who shared prison cells, the patients shared apartments with other patients. These apartments were so comfortable that some healthy people wanted to have AIDS so they could live in such conditions. But the patients were also treated as prisoners, living under military guard. One day a week they were allowed a day of freedom when they could leave the facility, but they had to have a companion assigned to be with them at all times.

Alicante (Spain), July 9 (Ians/Efe) Guitarist Al Di Meola will be the opening act at the 16th Fijazz International Jazz Festival in this Mediterranean city.
Arturo Sandoval, Michel Camilo, James Carter, Gregory Porter, Al Jarreau and Branford Marsalis are also scheduled to perform during the July 9-23 event at the Adda auditorium in Alicante, organizers said.
The 2013 edition features artists from the Latin and Anglo jazz traditions in equal measure.
The head of cultural affairs in Alicante province stressed the importance of the festival for the region.
"This year we have made a very solid commitment to the festival and we have expanded the roster of artists, which will allow the public to hear live seven.

Music for Tomorrow is a non-profit that was founded by Kabir Sehgal, a NYC financial executive, after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005. Soon after well known faces such as Jude Law, Dave Matthews, James Gandolfini and Patricia Clarkson joined to promote the jazz culture while simultaneously helping to donate funds to the cause.
