When Orson Welles first arrived in Hollywood in 1939, he proposed, among other projects, a film version of Calder-Marshall's novel "The Way To Santiago", and wrote a first-draft screenplay based on it. This film was never made. Around eighty years later, Calder-Marshall's grandson Tom Burke played Welles in the film "Mank".
