Professional referee Brian Hebner could not help but express his distaste for Samantha Irvin’s announcement style at WrestleMania Xl. Many sports fans love Irvin and admire her work as a ring announcer, but as the old adage goes, she cannot please everyone.

Irvin received massive praise from the industry itself as well as from many viewers, so it was quite a puzzle why Hebner was not thrilled enough with her performance.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire had me feeling like a little Donato again; sitting on the couch, cradling a bowl of sugary cereal, with my favorite Saturday morning cartoons on TV (like Godzilla: The Series). Will the screenplay win an Academy Award? Hell no. Does director Adam Wingard have an absolute blast staging supersized Titan mayhem? Big time.
Godzilla: Minus One satisfied our cravings for societally introspective and richly commentative kaiju narratives that produce more than citywide destruction. Godzilla x Kong is almost exclusively about everything Toho’s Oscar-winning Godzilla flick is not. The only thing missing from this royally massive rumbler is famed ring announcer Michael Buffer’s “Let’s get ready to rumble!” catchphrase and a ring bell’s ding each time mayhem erupts. That’s the energy Wingard brings — the definition of Friday night popcorn entertainment.

A new episode of the Black Sheep video series has just been released, and in this one we’re taking a look at a movie you might expect to be really popular, since it’s a sci-fi action thriller that pits Denzel Washington against Russell Crowe. It’s not popular… but maybe it should be. The movie is Virtuosity (watch it Here), and you can hear all about its virtues by checking out the video embedded above.
Directed by Brett Leonard from a screenplay written by Eric Bernt, Virtuosity has the following synopsis: A former cop who has been imprisoned for murdering the psychopath who killed his family, Parker Barnes is recruited to test out a new virtual-reality program where the goal is to apprehend a computer-generated being called Sid 6.7, who has been modeled on hundreds of deranged criminals. When Sid manages to escape into the real world, Barnes must...

These days, it seems like every business is trying to get hip with the kids on TikTok. A brand that already conquered the short-form video app, however, needs a different marketing strategy. Crumbl Cookies, which became a social media sensation during the Covid-19 pandemic, is running its first ad campaign on broadcast TV networks.
Crumbl’s first attempt at TV advertising goes for the low-hanging fruit. The commercial’s tagline, “let’s get ready to Crumbl,” is delivered by Michael Buffer. The legendary ringside announcer is known for popularizing a phrase that rhymes with that one.
The commercial premieres digitally on October 14, which is National Dessert Day. The 30-second spot’s first TV appearance will occur on November 5, when the ad will air on ABC.
The decision to market Crumbl on TV during a busy slate of college football is no accident. The TikTok-famous brand is looking to position its...

Seth Meyers had a pretty good laugh on Monday night installment of “Late Night” as he tore apart Ted Cruz for the Senator’s entrance at the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit last weekend. The late night host simply couldn’t get over how dramatic it was.
To kick off Monday’s “A Closer Look” segment, Meyers pulled up video of Cruz’s entrance, in which massive smoke cannons went off, loud music played, and a small light show occurred. Even Cruz himself seemed amazed, as the first thing he said when he arrived on stage was simply “Wow!”
“Yeah, wow,” Meyers deadpanned. “Talk about blowing smoke up someone’s ass.”
Of course, the late night host had more than just a one-liner. He had a whole slew of things to mock about Cruz’s entrance.

Legacy artists need exit strategies. These days, with pandemic disruptions closing off lucrative live-performance opportunities, a lot of the biggest names in rock and pop history have taken headline-grabbing catalog buyouts of their sizable discographies for eight- to nine-figure sums. But departing the entertainment industry isn’t solely about cashing out; it’s also about leaving one’s fans on the best possible terms, ensuring that those who supported you all those years aren’t left unsatisfied. So over this past weekend, when Daddy Yankee formally announced his retirement from music,...

"We need to beat the biggest, the baddest, and the slimiest..." Paramount Animation has debuted a second official trailer for Rumble, their animated monster wrestling movie from WWE Studios. In a world where monster wrestling is a global sport and monsters are superstar athletes, Winnie tries to follow in her father’s footsteps by coaching a loveable underdog monster into a champion. While entirely different in many ways, this reminds me of Monsters Inc with a world of monsters, with a dash of Real Steel and some Ratatouille (with her sitting on his head). The film's huge voice cast includes Will Arnett, Terry Crews, Geraldine Viswanathan, Joe "Roman Reigns" Anoa'i, Tony Danza, Becky Lynch, Susan Kelechi Watson, Stephen A. Smith, Jimmy Tatro, Ben Schwartz, and Michael Buffer. This was originally set to open in January early next year, but is now arriving direct-to-streaming on Paramount's own Paramount+ service starting in December.

Paramount has shifted the release date of its animated feature Rumble to May 14, 2021, pushing it further back from its previous January 19, 2021 date.
Paramount Animation and WWE Studios are teaming on the pic, which is directed by Hamish Grieve and originally was slated for a summer 2020 bow before the exhibition business shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic. Now it returns to its (in normal times) original early-summer-box-office slot, only a year later.

Cable news coverage of politics has hit a new low. The next new low will probably be next week, but still. CNN’s NBA-style debate lottery Thursday night degraded us all.
“The Leader” held a special segment for the randomized determination of the order for Democratic Party presidential debates on July 30 and 31. They gave the show a snappy marketing title: “The Draw” – and had half the network doing promos and commentary. Anderson Cooper probably woke up this morning wanting a long shower.
After “The Draw,” the network had even had panels doing post-draft analyses.

Whoever it was at Disney that decided that live-action remakes of their animated classics were the way to go deserves a raise. Both The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast outperformed box office expectations, meaning that the future holds many more in the same vein. But, first impressions of Dumbo, Tim Burton’s take on Disney’s classic tale of a deformed elephant, suggests that the film might have a decidedly mixed reception.
The pic recently had some press screenings, with critics and industry insiders posting their impressions on social media. Nobody outright hated it, but it seems that praise for Dumbo has been a little restrained. Those who really loved it point to a “blessedly surprising pro-animal rights message,” as well as heaping praise on the film’s set design and the CGI effects used to create the titular pachyderm.

Refresh for updates… Bob Einstein is being remembered by castmates, colleagues and his brother Albert Brooks as a comedian’s comedian — “excruciatingly brilliant,” as his friend and Curb Your Enthusiasm co-star Richard Lewis described him.
Series creator and star Larry David said in a statement: “Never have I seen an actor enjoy a role the way Bob did playing ‘Marty Funkhouser’ on Curb. It was an amazing, unforgettable experience knowing and working with him. There was no one like him, as he told us again and again. We’re all in a state of shock.”
Lewis and David were joined by Curb castmate Cheryl Hines and writer David Mandel in praising the “Super Dave” creator. “We lost a friend today,” tweeted Hines, “Thanks for all of the laughs on Curb Your Enthusiasm…The comedy world will miss you.”
Einstein’s longtime pal Lewis tweeted: “His long career is hard to match.

For the first time in decades, John Skipper spearheaded a launch event for a sports network that has nothing to do with ESPN.
The longtime former president at the Disney-owned sports mainstay took the stage today as executive chairman of Perform Group (see video below). Perform’s service, Dazn (pronounced “da zone”), operates in several countries around the world and will hit U.S. shores on September 10. The leading edge of its $10-a-month service initially will be boxing and Mma, with more than 70 matches courtesy of partnerships with Matchroom Boxing U.S.A., Bellator Mma and the World Boxing Super Series.
“Dazn is Perform Group’s most ambitious undertaking to date and we have big plans as a global streaming leader,” said Skipper, who joined Dazn parent the Perform Group in May as executive chairman. Clad in a crisp navy suit and delivering brief remarks read off index cards,...

Just weeks after Walt Disney’s ESPN launched a big streaming-video effort its executives believe will carry it into the future, the man who brought ESPN to that launch offered a new broadband effort that might pose a serious distraction.
John Skipper, the former ESPN president who left late last year after acknowledging an issue with drug use, is leading a new U.S. charge by Perform Group, the U.K. company that oversees the subscription-based streaming outlet Dazn. The company will in September make Dazn available in the U.S. for $9.99 a month, offering access to big fights from Viacom’s Bellator Mma and Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, among others. The network won’t sell an annual subscription.

If you happened to be walking past the Fountains at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas on Thursday afternoon, you’ll have spotted an unusual sight even for Sin City — rockers Panic! at the Disco playing live on a floating stage in the middle of the water.
The surprise show was the latest performance during the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals that have been worthy of a top music festival lineup like Coachella or Lollapalooza.
Add in the glitz of Vegas-style opening shows, Grammy-winning national anthem singers and celebrity announcers Michael Buffer and Pat Sajak — it’s become clear that not all the action during the NHL championship series happens on the ice, and that doesn’t factor in the end-to-end between the Washington Capitals and the Vegas Golden Knights.

“Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak got the cold shoulder from hockey fans when he announced the starting lineups for the Washington Capitals and the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals Saturday night.
When hosting in their hometown arena, the Knights have kicked up the showmanship on the pregame festivities this season, with everything from sword fights to performances by Lil John and Imagine Dragons. With Game 3 at Capital One Arena in D.C., the Caps planned to have a little fun by having Sajak — who said he’s been a Caps season ticket holder for 13 years — announce the starting lineups, like ring announcer Michael Buffer did before Game 1.

But hockey enthusiasts were underwhelmed by the choice of Sajak.
“Nothing sys [sic] hockey like Pat Sajak said no one ever Wtf?” tweeted one fan.

The term ‘main event’ has a certain aura that comes along with it. As a sports fan it immediately brings to mind images of Michael Buffer famously announcing the opening of a high profile boxing match.
If you are a fan of the Ufc you can hear his brother Bruce doing the same thing inside the octagon with, It’s Time! But in wrestling, the term ‘main event’ has meant something completely different lately.
For about the last ten years WWE announcers have used the term ‘main event’, to describe multiple matches on card. During an era where there were still two world titles the term ‘main event’ was used rather loosely.
Kurt Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero was described as the ‘main event’ of WrestleMania 20. It wasn’t! It was not the most anticipated match and it didn’t close the show. The two very things that determine what a ‘main event’ is.

Let’s face the facts, it’s an amazing feat of athleticism just to make it to the Ufc. However, everyone worth their salt as a competitor wants one thing: to wear the championship belt. Unfortunately for the athletes on this list, chances are that they will never hear Michael Buffer refer to them as the New Ufc Champion.
Olympic competition, collegiate wrestling, championships in other organizations, being in the best Mma camp in the world; none of these things guarantee even a title opportunity in the Ufc. But the hard facts say they just aren’t going to get that Ufc belt.

Absolutely loving the bravado and swagger coming out of Kevin Feige in his latest interview with Empire magazine. Showing the world Marvel ain't backing down against Batman Vs Superman displays they have supreme confidence in their brand. Here is that latest on what Feige had to say concerning the showdown.
We had the flag there first. What other people do and where has always been less of our concern. It's about keeping our head down and doing what we would believe would be cool for an audience to see. I wouldn't say that necessarily.
Not gonna lie, this showdown is getting more interesting by the minute. The only thing this fight needs is Michael Buffer to announce, "Let's get ready to rumble!"

The Muppets will return to movie theaters when Muppets Most Wanted arrives in March. To hype up fans for the next chapter in the lives of Jim Henson's beloved creations, Disney will release several 'Muppisodes' across the web. The first one--featuring a culinary battle between Gordon Ramsey and the Swedish Chef--has already arrived on the WWE YouTube channel. As per usual, The Muppets are charming, witty, and lovable, and they're joined by the usual cavalcade of guest stars. Ross Lynch of the Disney Channel makes an appearance, WWE wrestler Mike Mizanin shows up as a health-conscious foodie, and Michael Buffer serves as the food battle's announcer. Of course, Ramsey takes center stage; his best moment comes when he alludes to the fact that he can't curse when guest starring with The Muppets. The Muppets are no strangers to the web. They made several appearances on Nerdist thanks to that...
