The actors from the current revival of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s “Merrily We Roll Along” have skyrocketed in Gold Derby’s combined odds for the 2024 Tony Awards nominations. The prediction center displays commanding leads for Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez and Daniel Radcliffe to win their respective categories. This is an understandable result considering this revival is the hottest ticket in town and this trio of performers has been ever-present in the media. But how often does a trio of actors from the same production pull off three separate acting victories at the Tony Awards?
It’s quite common for a musical to grab two acting trophies, but three awards is much rarer. To date, only 15 musical productions have earned three acting wins. The first time this feat occurred was at the 1956 ceremony, which was ironically the first time the Tony Awards ever announced a slate of nominees (previously...

A musical that charms even audiences that don’t like musicals, this adaptation of a big 1955 Broadway hit is noted for capturing much of the original’s power and brilliance — more legendary stage performances should be filmed like this, immortalizing theater history that otherwise disappears into the ether. Gwen Verdon, Ray Walston, Russ Brown and star replacement Tab Hunter shine, yet ‘unknown’ Broadway talent Shannon Bolin and Robert Shafer earn just as much applause. The Verdon-Bob Fosse creative hookup is at its strongest here, complete with a show-stopper of a dance duo. Come to think of it, almost every song in this thing stops the show, like one of Joe Hardy’s home runs: Wow!

A few weeks ago I wrote about the fantastic experiences I had years ago working with the first iteration of the company that we know today as Valiant. I was in brand management in Nabisco on Oreo cookies and was introduced to the company (on a professional basis) through a wonderful guy named Seymour Miles. He was responsible for Ad Sales and Custom Comics. Of course, as a lifelong fan and comics enthusiast, I knew all about Valiant and was enjoying their innovative comic line.
I was also being pitched by Marvel, DC and Malibu comics, but those are stories for future columns.
Fast forward to today. Valiant jumpstarts with the 2.0 version of the company and continues to innovate and provide great storytelling for fans.
The new organization is a “perfect storm” creatively driven by a fan-turned- entertainment entrepreneur, Dinesh Shamdasani. He has boundless energy, and projects a vision that...

The sun painted the surrounding mountains of San Bernardino’s San Manuel Amphitheater a golden green, the grassy fields of the massive venue were filled up with a hodgepodge of rockers, greasers and bikers all young and old. The Lost Highway festival was the juxtaposition of hot summer day music festival and motorcycle exposition, and it was nothing like anything I had experienced before. The sunny day of music and bikes started around one Pm, with Country-esque acts playing on the tiny Russ Brown stage situated between the Harley Davidson Quaid stage and the hundreds of custom motorcycles and booths dedicated to […]...

We were there last year and hope to be covering it again this year. But in the meantime here’s the full list of nominees, featuring the cream of the crop of video gaming.
Personally I hope Uncharted 3 sweeps the board in all the categories its nominated in, and – being a Mario fan – I hope Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 pick up awards… although Dead Space iOS could give them a run for the money in the handheld categories!

Clint Eastwood's latest directorial effort, "Hereafter," is garnering Oscar buzz around Hollywood.
The film tells the story of a tortured psychic (Matt Damon), a French woman (Cecile De France), and a London School boy (Frankie McLaren) who are each touched by death in different ways.
Just how true to life is "Hereafter?"
Since the Dish Rag isn't quite ready to cross over to the great beyond, (and hopefully come back again) we asked four experts in the field of metaphysics who deal with the hereafter for their take on Damon's portrayal of an angst-ridden psychic and Eastwood's depiction of the afterlife.
Peter Roth, an intuitive counselor and host of Progressive Radio Network's a "Energy Stew," said that he related to Damon's portrayal.
"The film was right on. We are often thought of as freaks. I understand why the public doubts a profession where there are unfortunately many charlatans. For those who are sincerely gifted,...

Blu-Ray Rating: 5.0/5.0 Chicago – Twentieth Century Fox has pulled out all the stops for the 50th anniversary of one of the most beloved movie musicals of all time, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s classic “South Pacific”. With an entire supplemental disc of not just special features but an extended version of the film and one of the most pristine video transfers that Fox has yet produced, “South Pacific” is one of the best musical HD releases to date.
Having been a theatre student and lover of movie musicals from a young age, I’ve seen “South Pacific” several times, even if it’s never been what I would consider the cream of the crop when it comes to Rodgers & Hammerstein’s work. And yet, and this is the sign of a truly great Blu-Ray release, the film felt knew to me in HD. And despite the film’s overall flaws, the Blu-Ray release of it is absolutely flawless.
