In a recent study conducted by Sky marking the one-year anniversary Sky Documentaries, two in five Brits admit to watching more documentaries over the last 12 months than ever before. With those numbers in mind, the broadcaster has unveiled five new original commissions and released a first trailer for its highly anticipated upcoming docuseries “Murder at the Cottage: The Search for Justice for Sophie,” announcing that the series will premiere on Sky Crime and streaming service Now on Sunday, June 20.
“Murder at the Cottage” is produced, directed and features six-time Oscar nominated director Jim Sheridan, who spent more than a decade documenting the 25-year-old case of French film and TV producer Sophie Toscan Du Plantier, wife of filmmaker Daniel Toscan du Plantier, who was murdered at her holiday home in Schull, West Cork.

Independent U.K. production outfits Fulwell73 and Empty Room Productions have partnered to develop and co-produce a feature film based on the true story of a Welsh community that hosted a drag show to raise funds needed to bring their church back from disrepair.
The project, which has the working title “Dragged to Church,” is inspired by the story of a desperate church priest in Wales who contacted local LGBTQ+ radio presenters and asked for help to repair the church, as a last resort. The result was a Christmas drag show and concert that ended up embodying the spirit of the festive season and literally raised the roof of the church once again.

Craig Roberts’ “Eternal Beauty,” a romantic drama with Oscar-nominee Sally Hawkins, has sold North American rights to Samuel Goldwyn Films. The indie label will release the film on-demand this fall, an increasingly popular option at a time when many movie theaters are closed due to coronavirus.

Investment comes through the Company Support fund.
Welsh film development agency Ffilm Cymru Wales has invested £185,500 in seven companies for the 2019 funding round of its Company Support scheme.
The fund is designed for Wales-based companies with a feature film focus.
Leading the recipients of this year’s funding is Adrian Bate and Pip Broughton’s Vox Pictures, which receives a £50,000 investment towards increasing its core workforce. Vox recently finished work on Craig Roberts’ second feature Eternal Beauty, which shot last summer in Wales.
Elwen Rowlands and Hayley Manning’s Little Door Productions receives £47,500, which it will put towards hiring additional staff.

Acorn Media Enterprises has come on board to co-produce the second season and has picked all rights to the show in the Us, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, as well as home entertainment rights in the U.K. and Southern Ireland. Acorn Media International will handle distribution rights for the series in Australia, New Zealand, UK and Southern Ireland.

Park City became a special lieu for actor Craig Roberts back in 2011 with the world premiere launch of Richard Ayoade’s Submarine (see pic above). Over the course of this past summer, the just over the legal drinking aged thesp tag-teamed with indie vet Emile Hirsch on the shot in Wales. Titled Just Jim, it’s being described as a dark comedy, and this just happens to be Roberts directorial debut. Ten film projects, including features from Doctor Who director Euros Lyn and Borrowed Time producer Olivier Kaempfer, have been selected to progress to the first round of the Film Agency for Wales’ low budget film scheme.
The teams behind these projects will now participate in a training and mentoring programme supported by Creative Skillset’s Film Skills Fund, which is funded by the National Lottery via the BFI, and through the Skills Investment Fund (Sif).
The Film Agency for Wales devised and developed Cinematic in partnership with the BFI Film Fund, BBC Films, S4C and Soda Pictures to support emerging filmmaking talent from Wales in making “contemporary, dynamic and distinctive feature films” with budgets of around £300,000 ($480,000).

The teams behind these projects will now participate in a training and mentoring programme supported by Creative Skillset’s Film Skills Fund, which is funded by the National Lottery via the BFI, and through the Skills Investment Fund (Sif).
The Film Agency for Wales devised and developed Cinematic in partnership with the BFI Film Fund, BBC Films, S4C and Soda Pictures to support emerging filmmaking talent from Wales in making “contemporary, dynamic and distinctive feature films” with budgets of around £300,000 ($480,000).
