“X-Men: The Animated Series” may have an enduring impact as meme fodder, but to many millennials, the Fox show was a gateway into one of Marvel’s most venerable franchises. Before the live-action blockbusters of the early aughts, and certainly before the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “The Animated Series” offered a primer on mutants as a powerful allegory for marginalized groups, plus iconic characters like the saber-clawed Wolverine and telepathic Jean Grey.
Due to the intricacies of intellectual property rights, the X-Men have been a conspicuous absence from the MCU since its inception in 2008. Disney’s acquisition of Fox opened the door for an integration, but the Mouse House has been patient in deploying its new assets. The animated series “X-Men ‘97” marks the first X-Men title to originate from Marvel Studios, the unit captained by power producer Kevin Feige. If you grew up in the '90s, there's no way you could have escaped the cultural impact of "X-Men: The Animated Series." Alongside fellow Fox Kids superhero shows "Batman: The Animated Series" and "Spider-Man," the X-Men's animated adventures represented a true high point for superhero animation at the close of the century. Of course, it helped that the mutant team came armed with one of the most undeniably cool theme songs of all time. But the show itself was, much like the aforementioned Batman and the Spidey cartoons, memorable for not treating kids like dummies and including some pretty mature storylines and themes. As such, "X-Men: The Animated Series" left an indelible mark on kids around the globe with its 1992-'97 run.
Now, Disney is capitalizing on that popularity with "X-Men '97," which is set to debut on the Disney+ streaming service on March 20, 2024. Ahead of the release...

Superhero cartoons don’t get much more iconic that X-Men: The Animated Series. Running for 76 episodes between 1992-1997, the show is the best screen adaptation of the mutant squad for many fans, and in recent years its internet fame has grown thanks to 90s nostalgia and the spawning of many a meme. But could Disney capitalize on all this and create a continuation of the show all these years later? It certainly doesn’t sound out of the question.
Series producer and director Larry Houston revealed during a virtual Wizard World panel that the creators have “had talks” with the studio about getting a revival going on Disney Plus. Houston revealed, however, that the project isn’t exactly moving forward at this time and the ball remains in Disney’s court.

One thing I did when watching this version of Death Note was to try to put the anime version to the back of my mind, as that is my favourite version. This does prove hard as it sets up a good perspective of who Light should be, who Ryuk is, and of course how awesome L is.

Lead singer with the Troggs, best known for their hits Wild Thing and Love Is All Around
The Troggs were not among the most technically proficient of British pop groups of the 1960s, but they generated great affection among audiences and disc jockeys alike. The naivety of their sound, their songs and, above all, the singing of Reg Presley, who has died of lung cancer aged 71, made records such as I Can't Control Myself and With a Girl Like You into big international hits.
Presley's most lasting performances, however, were on Wild Thing (a 1966 hit soon adopted by Jimi Hendrix) and the wistful 1967 ballad Love Is All Around, given a new lease of life when a version by the Scottish band Wet Wet Wet was used in the 1994 film Four Weddings and a Funeral.
