"I can't imagine spending the holidays together after what happened." Yeah, no monsters at dinner next time grandma. Let's have some fun today with these new trailers this week – shall we? Netflix + Miracle Media have each debuted official trailers for holiday-themed movies coming out this fall – and they both look terrible. Which one is worse...? Which one seems like it has less originality to offer? One is a Hallmark Channel movie rip off, the other will rip off your face while you're watching some Hallmark Channel movies. Netflix is releasing a romantic comedy called Best. Christmas. Ever! this fall, the latest from filmmaker Mary Lambert (who also made 2021's A Castle for Christmas on Netflix). Starring Heather Graham, Brandy Norwood, Jason Biggs and Matt Cedeño. Miracle Media is releasing this goofy UK horror comedy called Werewolf Santa, which originally premiered at FrightFest 2023 in London a few months ago. Starring Katherine Rodden,...

You’d think Christmas horror films up until now had covered it all. Where can you go after all the killer Santas, snowmen and elves? Well, not too long ago, Krampus was the new thing for genre filmmakers to make a holiday film about and there’s been a few decent movies on that subject – none better than the 2015 film. Last year we got a couple of great new Christmas-themed horror movies with Violent Night seeing David Harbour as Santa saving Christmas and a family and the even more original but brilliantly violent Christmas Bloody Christmas, which featured a killer robotic Santa on the loose. 2023 doesn’t seem to be the year where Christmas horror runs out of ideas because now we are getting Werewolf Santa.

Mark Arnold who starred alongside Michael J Fox in the classic 1985 werewolf comedy Teen Wolf, is returning to our screens in a brand-new werewolf comedy. Werewolf Santa asks, what happens when Santa Claus turns into a werewolf on Christmas Eve? Incidentally, Teen Wolf happens to be the director’s favourite eighties film! It’s being made as Christmas horror films are becoming their own established genre, and this is the film the creators have always wanted to be able to switch on after necking a couple of very large Bailey’s on Christmas Eve…Also teamed up on the project are British horror royalty Emily Booth (Tarantino’s Grindhouse) and legendary drive-in film critic, and Shudder personality, Joe Bob Briggs who has a special voice cameo on the film.

Writer/director Airell Anthony Hayles’ horror comedy Werewolf Santa will be making its premiere at FrightFest in London on Friday, August 25th, with a second screening following the next day. With several days left to go until we reach the premiere date, Screen Daily reports that Miracle Media International is already planning to give Werewolf Santa a theatrical release in both the US and the UK sometime during November this year!
101 Films International holds the international sales rights to the film outside the UK and North America.
This project was once going by the title Frost Bite. The new title might have tipped you off to the fact that Werewolf Santa is going to show us what happens when Santa Claus, who turns into a werewolf on Christmas Eve, wreaks havoc in a small seaside town. As I’ve said a million times before (well it feels that often) I dislike found footage films. I often think that the use of the format is a shortcut to create horror – in particular jump scares, cut corners in terms of filming quality and, with that, storytelling. However last years Death of a Vlogger managed to do new things with the format, bringing in the facets and tropes of vlogging, YouTube videos and live-streaming to create a truly modern, cutting edge take on a film format that has, frankly, been played out in the 20 years since The Blair With Project hit it big.
Now They’re Outside continues that trend, only this time throwing in Pagan mysticism into the mix. The film follows Max Spencer,...

A début feature clearly made on a shoestring budget, They're Outside is a film that has a lot of problems but is, overall, better than anyone had a right to expect. It's a piece of folk horror put together with just a handful of actors, a single apartment, a patch of woodland and little else. Writer/director Airell Anthony Hayles and co-director Sam Casserly even manage to elicit some acting from Emily Booth, a feat as yet unmatched elsewhere, in a role which presents her with a not-so-subtle opportunity to excuse some of the disasters of her earlier career.
Booth is not the star here. That role is shared by Chrissy Randall as Sarah, a bereaved, agoraphobic woman convinced that something is waiting for her in the woods outside her house, and Tom Wheatley as Max, a psychologist and self-made celebrity convinced that he can save her and capture it all for.

Zombies seem to be a popular focus in the horror genre at the moment, with TV shows The Walking Dead bringing a new rejuvenated interest in the horror sub-genre. The success of the series seeming to be infectious, with a variety of zombie themed projects coming out every week, although most shuffle along without offering anything new to the genre.
Amongst the horde however you occasionally come across a breakout horror such as Shaun of the Dead (2004). A film which offers something different to the normal formula as both a homage and parody of the sub-genre. Dead Love is new unorthodox love story from writer and director Chris Gallagher, which has been selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Friday 19th January. I got chance to ask the films lead actor James Hamer-Morton a few questions about what attracted him to the film, memorable moments on set and having to simulate a relationship with a table voiced by Emily Booth.
What can we expect from the film Dead Love?
Dead Love is one of those genre films that has a heart. It’s more of a romance set within a horror framework; two people that should be unsuited to being with anybody find each other and through their time together end up with a relationship that we can all root for. There’s murder, bodily mutilation, cannibalism, and of course a ridiculous love triangle with a table, that never seem to overtake the real...

Dead Love is new unorthodox love story from writer and director Chris Gallagher, which has been selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Friday 19th January. I got chance to ask Chris a few questions about making the film, working with Lloyd Kaufman and the seminal casting of Emily Booth whilst writing the script.
What can we expect from the film Dead Love?
Talking tables, cannibals, exploding hearts, an awesome soundtrack and many scenes of murder-sex (a term the actors coined on set). It’s essentially a love story concerning a man named Allan, a woman called Anne and a sentient piece of furniture! We’ve got all bases covered – if you want gore, we have scenes where some cast & crew had to watch through their hands. There’s a bit of comedy (hopefully) and underpinning that is the tale of two mismatched people finding love in an unlikely situation.

[Editors Note: Given that we've already reviewed the Vinegar Syndrome release of Graduation Day and both discs are virtually identical bar the extras, we thought we'd review the Major difference between the two Blu-ray releases - the bonus feature on the UK disc, the documentary Scream Queens: Horror Heroines Exposed]
It’s fair to say I’m a sucker for scream queen “documentaries”. Be they the T&A filled features such as Scream Queen Hollywood Hot Tub Party, more amateur-hour productions such as Donald Farmer’s shot-on-video Invasion of the Scream Queens, or the awesome scream queen interviews that featured in Stephen King’s World of Horror – if it features an interview with a scream queen then I’m there. I’m also a fan of the documentaries and Blu-ray extras produced by High Rising Productions – including their previously released slasher movie documentary: Slice and Dice: The Slasher Movie Forever.
Put the two together and… I’m in filmic heaven!

Released in 1981, Graduation Day has become a favourite of slasher movie fans thanks to its plasma-spurting set pieces, maniacal mystery-killer storyline and a cast of cult celebrities that includes Christopher George (City of the Living Dead), Vanna White (Wheel of Fortune) and the perennially topless Scream Queen Linnea Quigley. Now set for a Blu-ray release, with a stunning print restored and re-mastered from a colourful 4k scan, from the folks at 88 Films, Graduation Day will arrive in the UK with an array of newly created special features from High Rising Productions including a new feature length documentary entitled Scream Queens: Horror Heroines Exposed.

In the Red Room with a Vue, the chorus of delighted FrightFester’s are set to join together in joyous song for the chorus of their clawed and shrivelled icon…
“One, two, Freddy’s coming for you.
Three, four, Better lock your door
Five, six, grab your crucifix.
Seven, eight, Gonna stay up late.
Nine, ten, He’s back again.”
If life can be described as a disappointment, of a vortex of uncertainty, then the one constant is FILM4 FrightFest, which, like a beacon of light, guides us to safely towards a guaranteed trip of unadulterated pleasure into the Dark Heart of Cinema every August Bank Holiday.
So what news has fallen upon our ears to add a little more detail to what the landscape of FrightFest 15 looks like?
Well, this year’s Film4 FrightFest guest list brings together the great, the grand and the gifted as over 100 filmmakers, performers,...

Check out the first poster for the dark fairytale Selkie, Emily Booth’s stunning debut short film, in which the Horror Channel presenter takes on the producer, writer and lead actress roles.
Emily assembled her own team for the project including concept artist Danny McMahon (who came up with the original drawings of the Selkie creature) and SFX artist Robbie Drake (Nightbreed, The Seasoning House). It is directed by her brother, Simon Booth.
When a fisherman (Joseph Rye) finds a treasured Selkie’s skin on the beach a mysterious woman (Emily Booth) is summoned to his house, but after a lifetime of enslavement she determines to reclaim her true mythical identity. A haunting adult fairytale based on Celtic myth.

When basing your film on a graphic novel it’s probably a good Idea to make sure the book is readily available and has something of a following before you go ahead with the film adaptation.
This is looking less and less likely to be a regular occurrence in a world where studios are snatching up rights to every comic before the first issue has even gone to print. So it is the case with The Reverend, a film based on a graphic novel which even the film’s own website lists as ‘coming soon’ and whose pages we glimpse in the opening credits further confusing an already schizophrenic movie.
The film starts well enough with Rutger Hauer as a character who may as well have ‘The Devil’ and a down arrow hanging around his forehead, approaching a bishop about the soul of a young man he wants. This scene...

The Reverend
Stars: Stuart Brennan, Tamer Hassan, Rutger Hauer, Doug Bradley, Giovanni Lombardo Radice, Emily Booth, Simon Phillips, Shane Richie | Written and Directed by Neil Jones
Sometimes it’s good to start watching a film with low expectations. This is not being negative about the film; it’s just a case of not knowing much about it and giving it a chance to surprise. With The Reverend I decided to do this even though the cast actually shows some real potential. It’s not every day Rutger Hauer and Doug Bradley appear in a relatively small budget film together, and even the inclusion of Shane Richie from Eastenders was quite a surprise to see.
The story, which proclaims itself based on a graphic novel, is about a new Reverend who has been given an easy job for his first parish. Stuck between a peaceful village and quite close to a...
