It looks like CBS Films has one last clip to share with us from The Last Exorcism Part II before it begins screening later this evening. If you’re excited for the movie’s release and can’t hold out, we now have the opening scene for you to watch.
“Continuing where the first film left off, Nell Sweetzer (Ashley Bell) is found alone and terrified in the woods. Back in the relative safety of civilization, Nell realizes that she can’t remember entire portions of the previous months only that she is the last surviving member of her family. Just as Nell begins the difficult process of starting a new life, the evil force that once possessed her is back with other, unimaginably horrific plans that mean her last exorcism was just the beginning.

Following on from the success of the original, which turned a $1.8m. budget into just shy of $70m. at the box office, The Last Exorcism Part II will be hitting the big screen this spring with a new dose of possessed horror for the masses.
With two months to go before its arrival, the first poster for the sequel has debuted over at Yahoo Movies, and is just as great as the original’s.
“In the continuing story, Nell Sweetzer is found terrified and alone in rural Louisiana. When she returns to the relative safety of New Orleans, Nell finds that she can’t remember large portions of the previous months, but she does know that she is the last surviving member of her family. As Nell begins the difficult process of starting a new life, the evil force that once possessed her comes back with terrible new plans for her,...

CBS Films acquired Us distribution rights to The Last Exorcism Part II and will be releasing the film to theaters on March 1st. Expect to see much more of the movie on Daily Dead in the coming weeks and we’ll kick things off with a look at the first poster:
“Continuing where the first film left off, Nell Sweetzer (Ashley Bell) is found alone and terrified in the woods. Back in the relative safety of civilization, Nell realizes that she can’t remember entire portions of the previous months only that she is the last surviving member of her family. Just as Nell begins the difficult process of starting a new life, the evil force that once possessed her is back with other, unimaginably horrific plans that mean her last exorcism was just the beginning.

I guess it wasn’t the Last exorcism was it? All joking aside, The Last Exorcism was one of the better found footage films concerning demonic possession and it seems other people thought so as well. Next year, we will be treated to the sequel, The Last Exorcism Part II. Read the press release below to find out more info.

When a horror movie that costs very little to film has a strong box office performance, it will usually have a sequel greenlit. That is even the case for films like The Last Exorcism - which despite the name has a sequel on the way. Deadline reports that the sequel will not be directed by Daniel Stamm, the first films director. Instead, Ed Gass-Donnelly (Small Town Murder Songs) is set to direct based on a script by Damien Chazelle. Ashley Bell is set to reprise her role as Nell, but there is no word on other cast members returning.
Details are being kept under wraps, but the film will pick up three months after The Last Exorcism. Producers Eli Roth, Eric Newman, Marc Abraham, and Tom Bliss are currently deciding on a title, which will not be The Last Exorcism 2. The pic is being financed by Studiocanal, and it...

It looks like The Last Exorcism wasn't the last exorcism. A good box office performance in 2010 made sure of that, so now we have a sequel in the works. Shooting is expected to begin very soon, using a script by Damien Chazelle. This weekend, the director of the sequel was revealed and it's not Daniel Stamm, who helmed the first entry. Ashley Bell is returning to reprise her role as Nell, however. According to Deadline , Ed Gass-Donnelly ( Small Town Murder Songs ) is in the director's seat this time. And while story details are being kept under wraps, it is known that the events that take place pick up three months after The Last Exorcism . The producers - Eli Roth, Eric Newman, Marc Abraham and Tom Bliss - are mulling over titles for the sequel. The Last...

We already knew Ashley Bell would be back for the sequel to The Last Exorcism, and now comes word as to who will be behind the camera barking contortion orders to her: Ed Gass-Donnelly (This Beautiful City, Small Town Murder Songs) has been tapped to direct the R-rated follow-up to the 2010 PG-13 film.
Per Deadline, Eli Roth returns as well, producing via Arcade Pictures, with Eric Newman, Marc Abraham, and Tom Bliss producing via Strike Entertainment. Studiocanal will fully finance and kick off international sales at the European Film Market in Berlin next month.
The sequel is said to pick up three months after the original left off, but of course further details are being kept under wraps. Production is set to begin in February in New Orleans, and delivery is expected for late 2012.

With all the "Black Swan" hoopla, am I the only one who thinks that the film, while well-made, is not deserving of all these hyper-crazed adulations? Portman was good, but I prefer Annette Bening's understated performance in "The Kids Are All Right." Or heck, Jennifer Lawrence's "Winter's Bone" performance could easily outdance Portman's delusional ballerina portrayal any day.
And "Winter's Bone," celebrating its true independent spirit, was virtually snubbed at last night's Independent Spirit Awards. Sure, the excellent supporting cast was honored with Dale Dickey winning Best Supporting Female and John Hawkes for Best Supporting Male, but the engaging and deeply haunting Debra Granik movie (with the most nominations totaling to seven nods) lost out to...you guessed it, Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan." (Check out my "Winter's Bone" movie review right here)

Chicago – Lionsgate may have somewhat poisoned the horror genre by milking every drop of financial blood from the “Saw” franchise but they are still easily one of the best studios out there in terms of Blu-ray product for those who love their movies scary. Look no further than the excellent release of Daniel Stamm’s riveting “The Last Exorcism,” a very-promising genre debut with a weak final act but more than enough to warrant to a rental.

“A surprisingly invigorating horror film.” The Last Exorcism
Directed by Daniel Stamm
Thanks to its wicked humor and unexpected smarts, The Last Exorcism sets itself apart from many recent attempts at faux-documentaries. In the film, documentary filmmakers follow a disillusioned preacher who hopes to expose the danger exorcism poses in the modern age. He attempts to reveal the ignorance and superstition that fuels its resurgence, as well as the threat posed to the “possessed” individuals. Ultimately, the possibility of the victim dying is not worth the price of satiating a medieval mindset.
The film begins on a comic note, presenting the outrageous theatrics of Preacher Cotton Marcus. The comedy in this section is very broad, and there is a brief sense that the film is simply taking cheap shots at Christianity. However, as the film delves deeper into Cotton’s past, most notably his experiences as a “child preacher” and the birth of his son,...

The Film:
The Exorcist is the motherf*cker of all horror films. A movie that changed the face of horror and broke the rules with pea soup, a 360 degree head turn, and a crucifix being thrust viciously into the baby maker. Out of the shadow of William Friedkin’s kickstarter came a few contenders to the throne [The Omen, The Sentinel] and a slew of pretenders [Exorcist II: The Heretic, The Devil's Rain].
‘Old Scratch’ came back in a big way in 1999 because the new millennium was nearing and what better time for Satan to make a return than the year leading up to that doomsday number of 2000. Studios were all over it releasing money wasters like End of Days, Lost Souls, The Ninth Gate, and Stigmata. They were all instantly forgotten by the general public and made me yearn for the days off mediocre imitators like Antichrist and Race with the Devil.
That same year brought the box-office monster The Blair Witch Project.

Catfish Good narrative-driven documentaries are hard to come by, for reasons that should be fairly obvious. It's one thing to be a talented filmmaker; it's another entirely to be lucky one. If we're meant to believe that Catfish is 100% authentic—and we are—then directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman are the luckiest talented filmmakers in the world. Because the story featured here is unbelievably perfect. (Keyword being "unbelievably".) To what extent Catfish is real or staged remains unclear, but thematically, it would be awfully fitting if it were all a ruse. The problem with the ‘faux-documentary’ model for horror film-making is that, at some point, they tend to have to break the natural mood and deliver the shocks that your audience came to see. There are obvious advantages to framing a film like this as ‘found footage’, (it makes the exposition that much easier and the motivation for encountering supernatural beings that much more believable), but it’s the rare filmmaker who sets up a compelling argument that these are events that would later be edited and then released as a theatrical feature film. For the majority of its running time, The Last Exorcism is a surprisingly sensitive and intelligent portrait of religious doubt and family dissolution. But like Paranormal Activity and Cloverfield before it, Exorcism doesn’t trust its premise to be scary enough, and bends it so far that it throws the whole thing into question. (Note: Though I...

From the Press Release:
Everything you believe will be changed this January as Lionsgate releases The Last Exorcism to DVD, Blu-ray Disc, Digital Download and On Demand.
