A tale of disability, abuse, expectations and family secrets, “She Looks Like Me” from director Torquil Jones has a headstart on most documentaries, given its subject matter’s winding twists and turns. Some key details end up obscured — there’s enough real-life material here to fill an entire miniseries — but the film has an alluring atmosphere, and is rife with enough intimate re-enactments, to be occasionally absorbing.
Dreamlike hymns echo off the walls of an ornate church in the movie’s opening scenes. These have little thematic bearing on the story, but they make for a vibrant aesthetic, appearing and reappearing during moments of quiet reflection. A now-adult Jen Bricker — a woman born without legs — narrates the broad strokes of her childhood, from her adoption in rural Illinois, to the way her parents and three older brothers raised her to believe she could do anything she wanted. Dublin, Sept 1 (Ians) Cricket Ireland have named a 15-member men’s squad that will face current World Cup holders England in a three-match Odi series happening from September 20-26.
The Ireland squad will be led by opener Paul Stirling and will play matches against England at Headingley (Leeds), Trent Bridge (Nottingham) and The Seat Unique Stadium (Bristol). Graham Hume is back in place of Fionn Hand while Neil Rock also returns to the side.
Ireland will have a new-look top-order, with Andrew Balbirnie set to open with Stirling and pace all-rounder Curtis Campher to bat at number three.
“While the squad has an overall familiar shape, there are several important changes we are going to look at. The key changes are at the top of the order where Andrew Balbirnie will open with Paul Stirling.”
“The pair have a great understanding, and we believe they can develop into a long-term...

Dublin, Aug 4 (Ians) Ireland have brought in all-rounder Fionn Hand and leg-spinner Gareth Delany in their 15-member squad for three-match T20I series against India, starting from August 18 in Malahide.
Hand had missed out on selection in Ireland’s recent qualification for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup while Delany is returning from injury after breaking his wrist during the Men’s Odi World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe in June.
“Giving opportunities to players also filters down the series themselves, so I would expect that all of the 15 players named in the India series squad will feature at some point. The Indian side arriving in Ireland is an exciting one for the supporters, but as we showed last year, we have the talent and confidence to match them on the field of play and we have high hopes for another fiercely contested series.
So, while the immediate task at hand...

Larsen produced TV specials for ABC, CBS and NBC and wrote songs with Richard Sherman, the Oscar winner who partnered with his late brother, Robert, to create tunes for such Disney classics as Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Jungle Book.
He also was the creator and consultant for the $50 million Caesars Magic Empire at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
In 1963, Larsen and his late brother, Bill, founded The Magic Castle in a 1909 French Chateau mansion on Franklin Avenue. With its many stages, labyrinthine corridors and old-fashioned decor, the place would become a renowned private club for magicians.

Dublin, May 24 (Ians) Cricket Ireland on Wednesday announced that right-handed batter Stephen Doheny has missed out from the 15-player squad to be captained by Andrew Balbirnie for the upcoming Icc Mens Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe.
The Qualifier event, to be held in Zimbabwe from June 18-July 9, will see 10 teams competing for two remaining spots in the ten-team 2023 Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup, to be held in India from October-November.
“Unfortunately, hard decisions had to be made, and Stephen Doheny misses out on this trip. Stephen is a player we admire and want to continue to invest in, but we think the time is right for him, just now, to take a step back and work on a few technical aspects of his game at the domestic level.”
Qualifier events are tough, cut-throat competitions at times and a balance of talent, form and experience is essential. We believe...

Dublin, May 6 (Ians) Opener Paul Stirling has been named in Ireland’s 15-man squad for their one-off Test against England at Lord’s, to happen from June 1-4. Stirling had returned to red-ball cricket during Ireland’s second Test match against Sri Lanka and scored his maiden Test century at Galle.
Ireland have not rested left-arm fast bowler Josh Little, who is having an Indian Premier League (Ipl) stint with Gujarat Titans. Little, though, is back with the Ireland squad to play three ODIs against Bangladesh at Chelmsford in the upcoming week and will return to India for Ipl 2023 post the completion of the series.
“Regarding Josh Little, although the Ipl will have finished, we are very conscious of the need for Josh to rest, recover and prepare for what will be a busy and important summer for us in white-ball cricket,” said Andrew White, Ireland Men’s National Selector,...

Dublin, April 3 (Ians) Opener Paul Stirling is set to join Ireland’s Test squad for the tour of Sri Lanka and will be available for selection for the second Test to be played in Galle from April 24-28. Stirling’s addition makes Ireland’s travelling squad a 16-player party for the second game of the two-Test series.
Ireland’s tour to Sri Lanka was initially supposed to consist of one Test and two ODIs. But the hosts’ quest to get more red-ball matches meant the two ODIs got converted into an extra Test match. Both the Tests will be played in Galle between April 16 and 28.
“Paul was originally set to join the squad in Sri Lanka for the Odi series that was originally planned. However, with those fixtures now converted to a Test match, and the scheduled Bangladesh T20I series in Ireland postponed, he will now have a greater...

In Donald Glover and Janine Nabers’ “Swarm,” a highly-detailed dedication to all-things Beyoncé and her “Bey Hive” fanbase is key to the show’s menacingly satirical look at obsessive fandom turned murderous.
Credit “Swarm” production designer Sara K White with taking its creators’ ideal of singing sensation Ni’Jah (Nirine S. Brown) to nuanced extremes, while folding “The Swarm” and its greatest devotee Dre (Dominique Fishback) into Glover’s dreamlike “Atlanta” universe.
“I knew ‘Swarm’ was a sister to ‘Atlanta,’” said White of Glover’s beloved FX series. “What I wanted to evoke, then, was their shared interest in authenticity and irreverence to the point of whimsy.”
To heighten these qualities within Dre’s hardcore obsessions, “Ni’Jah and food”, production designer White — with set decorator Laura Wallgren, costume designer Dominique Dawson and cinematographer Drew Daniels — had to make Ni’Jah’s world palpable.
“I was given the first episode in December 2021, developed a look-book,...

Dublin, Dec 13 (Ians) Uncapped batter Stephen Doheny has been named in Ireland’s Odi and T20I squads for the tour of Zimbabwe, set to happen in January 2023. Doheny was a part of Ireland’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad but did not get a game in Australia.
With three ODIs and as many T20Is coming up against Zimbabwe, Doheny is in line to make his international debut. The two teams had recently met in the T20 World Cup where Zimbabwe secured a 31-run win over Ireland in the first-round match at Hobart.
Fast bowler Tyrone Kane returns to the side after nearly four years since his last international match against Zimbabwe in July 2019. Also making a return are leg-spinner Ben White and wicketkeeper-batter Neil Rock, both of whom debuted for Ireland in 2021.
Medium pacer Conor Olphert was not considered for selection in both white-ball squads due to injury. Cricket...

Dublin (Ireland), Sep 20 (Ians) Off-spinner Simi Singh was on Tuesday selected ahead of Andy McBrine as the third spinner in the Ireland squad for the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia starting next month.
With George Dockrell and Gareth Delany doing well this season, the selectors decided to pick one spinner in the 15-member squad and Simi Singh got the nod.
“One of the most considered decisions we had to make was around our spin bowling options. With George Dockrell and Gareth Delany both having an impact this summer and the variation they bring to the attack, it came down to making a choice between Simi Singh and Andy McBrine.
“Andy can feel very unfortunate to have missed out this time, but we believe Simi offers more variation on Australian wickets with his ability to take the ball away from both right and left-handers,” Cricket Ireland’s chief selector Andrew White said.
