Chicago – It’s “Cabaret” for god’s sake. It’s not “Bambi”. You’re supposed to need to leave the kids at home watching their own Disney flick. You don’t go to McDonald’s to eat healthy just like you don’t go to “Cabaret” for good clean fun.

The show at Chicagoland’s Marriott Theatre starts off with so much potential because of a promise from our Emcee (Stephen Schellhardt). He guarantees we’ll delve into the sketchy world of sin in the Kit Kat Klub where we can put our real-world worries aside. It’s a “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” kind of warranty, but you never feel it realized. And that is the show’s biggest downfall.

“So, how was the date?”
Dating site RSVP has launched a campaign that highlights the pitfalls of poorly matched dates.
The ad, which features a single woman’s struggle to find a suitable date, was created by MercerBell, which picked up the RSVP business after handling a number of projects.
The ad came as a result of the brief being opened up to all creatives at the agency.
MercerBell creative director David Bell said: “While we have a female character in the Tvc, we wanted to be sure the campaign appealed to a broad range of people.”
The TV campaign will be supported with online and press.

Carl Oldham, Louis Keating and Nick Mercer
Direct marketing agency MercerBell has launched a standalone brand that specialises in data.
The data planning and analytics firm – called Ngage – will be run by Carl Oldham as strategy director, who moves across from MercerBell.
The agency starts life with five staff, including senior analyst Louis Keating, and clients including BT Financial.
MercerBell CEO Nick Mercer said that for all the hype about data, there were few in the Australian market who were excelling in the area.
“Australia has been too focused on data acquisition,” he told Mumbrella. “Most marketers have enough data to work with already – but they need to start using it better.”
Ngage’s proposition is based on helping clients discover untapped profitability.
“It’s not about playing with data for data’s sake,” said Mercer. “We want to help companies create more value and make more money, and not just through marketing.

Organiser Avant Card Free Media has said that it spent its budget on a new website instead.
The winner of the Postcard of the Year Awards is to be announced tomorrow, with $20,000 of postcard advertising space up for grabs.
The judging panel includes David Bell, the Ecd of MercerBell, Ben Akers, creative director at Republic of Everyone and Alex Booker, senior art director at Bmf.

I bet you didn’t think we could get any more meta than we did with last year’s Our List of the Best Lists of 2010, but boom, we have – by making that exact list feature a recurring Year In Review feature. It’s here to stay. It will never go away. Unless we think of something better. We’ve been lucky enough to have some talented and truly inventive Cinematic Listologists on staff this year – from former writers Matt Patches and Ashe Cantrell (hi, dudes!), to our latest list-o-maker, David Bell. Along the way, some of us other Rejects have even piped in with our own works of list art (I won’t deny that it’s no coincidence that my one list for the year shows up on the list). Our lists for the year ran the gamut, from special peeks inside how movies get made, to more specific takes on genres and styles, to...

9.45am: Welcome to today's live updates on the still-unfolding repercussions of the phone hacking scandal. Following yesterday's Commons statement and debate, the house in now in recess. Rupert Murdoch has left the UK following his testimony to MPs on Tuesday.
So, on the face of it today could appear a slight respite following an almost absurdly dramatic fortnight. A majority of English daily papers – five against four – lead on other stories, including the unfolding crisis in the eurozone.
But rest assured there will be more to come. Nick Clegg is scheduled to give an end-of-term press conference imminently. Perhaps someone could ask why he looked so detached – disinterested, even – during David Cameron's phone hacking statement. There is also surely...

Chicago – One of the jewels of Chicago is right on Lake Michigan. The Chicago Shakepeare Theater within Navy Pier continues to illuminate the immortal Bard resplendently for contemporary audiences. “Macbeth,” playing through March 5th, is part of their ‘Short Shakespeare!’ series.
Play Rating: 4.0/5.0
This Shakespeare presentation is framed as an “introduction” to the powerful imagery and unforgettable language of the famed playwright, abridged to under 80 minutes for a Saturday morning (11am) crowd. The audience was a mix of kids, Macbeth beginners and aficionados, part of the Cst Family Series.
None of the power and energy of this essential tragedy is lost in the remastering. All the language is maintained, with a prose beauty and familiarity all of its own. The story is of Macbeth (Mark L. Montgomery), a warrior and kinsman to King Duncan (Lynn Robert Berg) of Scotland. The prophecies of three witches include that Macbeth will be “Thane” of another province,...

David Bell explores the life of the star, born Fania Borach, in Fanny Brice: The Real Funny Girl, which has its world premiere production Nov. 10-24 at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. Marya Grandy stars as Brice.
For more than 40 years, the comic actress and singer triumphed wherever she appeared - from vaudeville to variety, burlesque to Broadway, the Ziegfeld Follies to film, and, finally, television.
But life wasn't always fun for Brice.
And it was that aspect of Brice's life that Bell wanted to explore in Fanny Brice: The Real Funny Girl.
"I not only wanted to capture the spirit of one of Broadway's most electrifying stars - I wanted to capture some of the spirit of ballyhoo, creativity, genius and flim-flam that made up the Broadway of that era," Bell said.
"Fanny Brice was such an icon," said Andrew Kato, Artistic Director of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre.
