Katy Perry's stylist wanted her to look "odd" in her video for 'E.T.'
Carol Beadle - who worked alongside director Floria Sigismondi to create the singer's outlandish and unearthly look in the video - explained Katy's outfits were inspired by "jellyfish and amoebas".
She said: "I just wanted Katy to look really odd, unreal if we could, but still fashionable. I was looking at jellyfishes and amoebas; those words were constantly used and we wanted it to look like a flash of an amoeba and then it coming to life.
"To make it look 2011, it has to have a context and a reference point."
While she did take the "Firework" hitmaker's body shape and style into account when designing the kooky pieces, Carol admitted the main aim of the video was to tell the story of an extra-terrestrial romance.

Katy Perry leaves Candyfornia for outer space in her latest video, "E.T." The otherworldly clip follows an alien woman played by the Teenage Dream singer as she falls to a planet to find her lost extraterrestrial lover. While fans are used to seeing Perry in dresses made from cupcakes and cotton candy, this time around she sports flowing gowns, metal body armor and lots of intricate makeup.
Carol Beadle, who worked with director Floria Sigismondi on the style for the video, explained to MTV News that she wanted to take things to a more "avant-garde" level in the clip. "I just wanted [Katy] to look really odd, unreal if we could, but still fashionable," she said.

Starring: Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, Michael Shannon
Director: Floria Sigismondi
1975. Rock is a male-dominated genre, but young wannabe guitarist Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) has other ideas. She wants to start an all girl rock band called ‘The Runaways’. And that basically is the set-up of this conventional, yet hugely entertaining music biopic of the real life rebellious rock ensemble.
With their band, The Runaways kicked started the term ‘Girl Power’, i.e. youth female liberation, which was resurrected in the 1990s by the Spice Girls. Throughout this story we are reminded that women weren’t given the freedom afforded men in the music business. They were treated like sex objects, not musicians. This gives The Runaways an inspirational quality, as the girls want desperately to succeed and prove their sexist, male-dominated industry wrong.

Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart star in The Runaways - about the '70s rock and roll band - which expands wide this Friday, 4/9 and we have an exclusive pic from the film here. It's Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie taken by director Floria Sigismondi. Costume designer Carol Beadle on Fanning's outfit: "Shirt Synthetic print long sleeve shirt with rouched hem which was super popular in early to mid 70's. These jeans were one of the better that I found. Can't remember where I got them, Palace Costumes or possibly "Siobhan" on Beverly Blvd. in La. Wide leg flare with silver pin striping. I think she has Cherie's "Bowie" belt on here, and a briliant pair of black suede platforms." What do you think of Dakota's look?...

Courtesy of Apparition. Vintage fanatics in Los Angeles: if you’re wondering who’s responsible for the serious drought of rocker tees and skinny leather goods, look no further than Carol Beadle, costume designer of the upcoming film The Runaways. Really though, you can’t blame her. How else to recreate the wardrobes of style icons Joan Jett, Cherie Currie, and their band mates? Glam rock is something of a sartorial specialty for the Canadian, who grew up as the youngest of four in a musically inclined family. “I was watching The Midnight Special when I was six,” Beadle told Vf Daily, referring to the weekly musical variety series that followed Johnny Carson’s show. Staying up past her bedtime paid off: as a stylist for music videos, she’s worked with artists as varied as Kanye West, The Killers, Christina Aguilera, and even Ziggy Stardust himself, David Bowie.

Revised Post
More and more photos of Kristen Stewart and lil' Dakota Fanning in their Joan Jett / Cherie Currie garb will now be surfacing since The Runaways filming is underway. Just Jared has lots of new snaps of these two costumes pictured left. Most film sites won't tell you this when they get costume shots -- because they don't care? I care. Oh how I care. I have love for you Behind the Scenes People o' Hollywood! -- but the costumes here are by Carol Beadle. She has a very short film resume (most recently, stylist work on Max Payne) but these costumes look great, don't they? Yay.
Obviously trendsetting will occur. Late 70s girl rocker chic coming at'cha on city streets soon. Or at least by the film's release date in 2010, Tba.
Here's a photo of the band below [via]. The cast also features Scout Taylor-Compton as Lita "Kiss Me...

Dakota Fanning, star of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, has clearly been touched by an angel - that is, the very capable hands of costume designer Carol Beadle - on set The Runaways. Throughout the filming process, we've watched as she and co-star Kristen Stewart literally embody the characteristics of their characters, in spirit and in physical appearance. This photograph (which is one of many brought forth by the Gossip Girls) shows Fanning's transformation into Cherie Currie. Currie, who was famed for her fluffy blonde hair and halter-top upon stilettos style, has clearly been cast well by casting director Wendy O'Brien. The film, The Runaways, is expected to...
