The new oral history of Battlestar Galactica, So Say We All (Tor Books), from bestselling authors Mark A. Altman and Edward Gross, tells the story of how a 1978 space opera greenlit in the aftermath of Star Wars, and featuring a robot dog and lumbering, mechanical robot villains called the Cylons, evolved into one of the greatest and most critically acclaimed series ever. Debuting on the Syfy Channel in 2004, the same season as Lost, Battlestar Galactica (truly born out of the ashes of 9/11) was not immediately embraced by fans of the original show when it was first announced as a miniseries — not the least of which was because the 1978 popular character of Starbuck, played by a swashbuckling Dirk Benedict, was reconceived as a kick-ass woman played by Katee Sackhoff. The press around Outlander, which premieres on Starz Saturday night but has already released its pilot on Youtube to nearly one million views, has been very positive—and often filled with caveats that it’s “feminist fantasy,” or at least directed at female audiences.
People have made much of the genre shift showrunner Ronald D. Moore made by going from his best-known previous project, the sci-fi epic Battlestar Galactica, to Outlander. The latter, an adaption of Diana Gabaldon’s book series, follows Claire Randall, a World War II nurse sent back in time to 18th-century Scotland. It panders to audiences who like attractive Scottish men,...

Sunday night’s episode of Masters of Sex, titled “Fight,” was one of the series’ best. It stuck the show’s two main characters, Dr. William Masters (Michael Sheen) and his assistant/lover Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan), in a single hotel room and then let them batter out their anxieties and anger through flirtation, role play, and sex, all while an actual boxing match rages on TV.
In TV parlance, episodes like “Fight,” where characters are restricted to a few sets, are often called “bottle episodes”—they’re cheaper to make (you don’t have to build new sets or...

John Ford's Oscar winning, The Quiet Man, is one of the best loved and most popular films of all time. Its musical adaptation, Donnybrook, begins with the haunting love theme, Richard Farrelly's 'The Isle of Innisfree' and marches jauntily through the misty hills of the west of Ireland with a cast of characters headed by the indomitable Mary Kate Danaher Jenny Powers, and her counterpart, American prizefighter Sean Enright James Barbour who, against his strong wishes, has not yet fought his last battle.

New York -- A new musical influenced by the classic Alfred Hitchcock film "Rebecca" has booked a place on Broadway this fall.
Producers announced Thursday that the show will begin previews Oct. 30 at The Broadhurst Theatre, with an opening set for Nov. 18. It will star Karen Mason, Howard McGillin and James Barbour, with two more big roles to be announced later.
Based on the novel by Daphne du Maurier, the story is about a wealthy Englishman, his new wife and a manipulative housekeeper – all haunted by the hero's dead first wife, Rebecca.
It had been expected for this season, but the poor economy was blamed for the delay, which also means it lost Sierra Boggess, who will now be in "Prince of Broadway" at the same time.

Out goes Stella and in goes Rebecca, the new musical based on the Daphne du Maurier novel and Oscar-winning Alfred Hitchcock film. The production, which tells the story of an English country estate haunted by an aristocrat’s dead wife, has set its opening night on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre–the current home of the limited run of A Streetcar Named Desire–on November 18, 2012.
Another version of the show had its world premiere in 2006 in Vienna (and played for more than three years), but the revised musical has finally slated a Broadway debut, after postponing its opening earlier this season.

Just reading about the battles between Courtney Love and her daughter Frances Bean Cobain really tires us out. They’re so explosive! We’re going to hear a lot more from them after they read about this story put together by The Fix. Maer Roshan first interviewed Courtney back in 2010 and has kept in touch with her ever since. That interview was published last May, and now it’s being transformed into an e-book called Courtney Comes Clean that reveals a whole lot of other information about the troubled sometimes-singer. This includes some truly shocking details from Frances’ sealed deposition against her mother from 2009, and more drug-related confessions from Courtney.
The e-book tells us about some strange revelations about her crack use, detailing, “The strange thing is, while the crack screwed me up in a lot of ways, it improved me in certain others. I’ve never been good with numbers,...
