Chris Brearton is exiting Amazon MGM Studios after a long career at MGM to pursue other opportunities, the company announced on Wednesday. Brearton had most recently served as vice president of Pvs Corporate Strategy at MGM+ and MGM Alternative Television. As part of his exit, the company has restructured some of Brearton’s direct reports: MGM+ which is led by Michael Wright and Josh McIvor, and and MGM Television, led by Lindsey Sloane, will now report to Kelly Day, head of Prime Video International. Brearton has been VP Pvs Corporate Strategy, MGM+ and MGM Alternative Television, since November 2022.
Brearton joined MGM as Chief Operating Officer in February 2018. He spent four years in that role before taking on a broader role following Amazon’s $8.5 billion acquisition of the studio in 2022.
After shepherding MGM’s integration into Prime Video and Amazon Studios, Brearton took on the new role, leading business planning and corporate strategy for Prime Video and Studios and also overseeing MGM+ and MGM Alternative.

A decade ago, director David Bruckner made a valiant attempt to get a new Friday the 13th film into production… it just didn’t happen. Years later, he did manage to reboot the Hellraiser franchise, with his version of Hellraiser getting released through the Hulu streaming service back in October of 2022. Surprisingly, a year and a half has gone by since that release and we haven’t heard anything about the possibility of a follow-up – until now. During a chat with ComicBook.com, producer Keith Levine confirmed that they are having conversations about making a Hellraiser sequel.
Levine said, “We are trying to do a follow-up and there have been conversations. I can’t exactly say where we’re at in those conversations, but Bruckner is involved in those conversations and we spent a lot of time and energy, I think relaunching that world. A lot of brainpower going into crafting the Cenobite design,...

Sixteen years passed from the time Eli Roth made a slasher faux trailer called Thanksgiving for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse to the day when a feature version of Thanksgiving (read our review Here) finally made its way into theatres – and the fact that we’re being rewarded for our patience with not just that movie, but also a sequel that’s expected to reach theatres sometime in 2025 is truly something to be thankful about. Now Thanksgiving cast members Nell Verlaque and Rick Hoffman have confirmed to Games Radar that they are going to be coming back for Thanksgiving 2!
When asked if she’ll be in the sequel Roth is crafting with Thanksgiving co-writer Jeff Rendell, Verlaque said, “To my knowledge, yes. I think that it’ll be a continuation of where we last saw (her character). So we’ll see. But right now, I think so.

Sony is bringing Eli Roth’s long-awaited slasher Thanksgiving (read our review Here, check out our interview with Roth at This Link) back to theatre screens, and they’re not waiting for the Thanksgiving holiday to do it. Our friends at Bloody Disgusting report that Thanksgiving, which was just released to theatres for the first time back in November, will be returning to more than 500 theatres this weekend. The movie already received a digital release last week, so presumably this theatrical boost is meant to promote Blu-ray and DVD release that’s coming on January 30th.

Amid Israel’s ongoing war with Hamas, Jewish entertainment figures have come together to issue an open letter to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences criticizing their exclusion from being specified as an underrepresented group.
“An inclusion effort that excludes Jews is both steeped in and misunderstands antisemitism,” reads the letter, organized by the group Jew in the City’s Hollywood Bureau for Jewish Representation. “Jewish people being excluded from the Motion Picture Academy’s Representation and Inclusion Standards is discriminating against a protected class by invalidating their historic and genetic identity.”
The Academy’s standards, unveiled in 2020 as part of its Aperture 2025 diversity initiative, describes a number of identities that it considers “underrepresented groups”: women, LGBTQ+, having cognitive or physical difficulties or being deaf or hard of hearing, as well as underrepresented racial or ethnic groups. George Clooney says the Ocean’s gang could get back together after reading a “great script” for another film in the starry heist series. Speaking with Uproxx about his upcoming movie The Boys in the Boat, Clooney revealed a new Ocean’s film could find the crew from the trilogy reuniting for events set after Ocean’s 13. Ocean’s 14, anyone?
“We have a really good script for another ‘Ocean’s’ now, so we may end up doing another one. It’s actually a great script,” Clooney told Uproxx.
The outlet tried pressing Clooney for more information, though he was reluctant to share too much. When asked if the project intends to become Ocean’s 14, Clooney said, “Well… I don’t want to call it that… I mean, the idea is kind of like ‘Going in Style.'”

A lot of genre fans had been waiting sixteen years to see director Eli Roth’s holiday slasher Thanksgiving (read our review Here), ever since he contributed a faux trailer for the concept to the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse back in 2007. The movie hasn’t exactly done massive numbers since reaching theatres a week and a half ago; so far it has racked up just over $30 million at the global box office. But that’s enough to get Sony’s TriStar Pictures to greenlight a sequel! Roth took to social media to announce that Thanksgiving 2 is a go, and he’ll be returning to the helm for this follow-up! Roth’s announcement can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Last week, we heard the shocking news that Scream (2022) and Scream VI star Melissa Barrera won’t be reprising the role of troubled heroine Samantha Carpenter in the upcoming Scream 7, as she had been fired from the project after comments she made about the Israel-Hamas war didn’t go over well with executives at Spyglass Media. The next day, it was revealed that Barrera’s co-star Jenna Ortega, who played Samantha’s sister Tara, will also be absent from Scream 7. Scheduling issues were blamed for Ortega’s exit, as she’ll be spending several months filming Wednesday season 2 in Ireland next year. Many fans rejected that explanation, assuming Ortega had dropped out in solidarity with Barrera. But a new The Hollywood Reporter article claims that Ortega’s Scream 7 absence is actually due to a pay dispute – you know, the same issue that caused Neve Campbell to...

For characters in the Scream movies, it’s wise never to answer the phone — lest Ghostface be on the other end of the line. But after a tumultuous few months for the franchise, Scream studio Spyglass is likely hoping its calls will indeed go answered as it attempts to keep its next installment from getting the ax amid a major casting shakeup and subsequent creative pivot.
On Nov. 21, it broke that Spyglass had fired Melissa Barrera from the upcoming seventh Scream movie over social media posts that company decision-makers characterized as antisemitic. Sources note the firing actually came a month earlier, in the early weeks of the Israel-Hamas war, when Barrera had become increasingly vocal. Before her firing, sources say her deal to return as Sam Carpenter, the lead character she introduced in 2022’s Scream, had been finalized.

Soon after the film was released, her Scream co-star Skeet Ulrich (who makes brief appearances in the 2022 Scream and Scream VI) said Campbell loved what they did with the latest sequel… but while doing a Q&a at the 2023 Monster-Mania Con, Campbell revealed that she only recently watched the film. Eli Roth‘s long-awaited slasher movie Thanksgiving is set to reach theatres on November 17th (that being the Friday before Thanksgiving this year), and with just over two weeks to go until we reach that date, the movie has just earned its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. And it’s exactly the rating we’ve been hoping to see for this one. Thanksgiving has officially earned an R rating for strong bloody horror violence and gore, pervasive language and some sexual material. It is a bit surprising not to see nudity specified on that list, but the rest of the reasons were expected.

Last November, CAA held a town hall on antisemitism, part of a series hosted through CAA’s Amplify Presents program, described as “a network of changemakers” working toward “systemic change for communities of color.” The program was introduced by agent Maha Dakhil, who said it was “focused on fighting antisemitism and promoting allyship.” Next up was CAA co-chairman Richard Lovett. “This morning, we will learn once again how much words matter,” he said, “and the damage caused by human beings with large platforms who do not use their platforms responsibly.”

Sixteen years after Eli Roth made the ’80s slasher faux trailer Thanksgiving for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse, the concept has finally been expanded into a feature film that’s set to reach theatres on November 17th – that being the Friday before Thanksgiving this year. In the build-up to this long-awaited release, our friends at Bloody Disgusting got their hands on a batch of Thanksgiving posters that pay tribute to classic slashers, and you can now check them out at the bottom of this article!
Roth has been wanting to make a feature version of Thanksgiving ever since he made the faux trailer, and even wrote the screenplay with Jeff Rendell (who played the homicidal pilgrim in the trailer) a dozen years ago. The feature has happened thanks to Spyglass Media stepping in to provide the funding. Roth jumped at the chance to get the movie made,...

No hostage left behind.
So many of your favorite stars have come together to thank President Biden for his efforts in working to peace amid the Israel-Gaza conflict.
Amid the news that two American hostages and two Israeli hostages have been released from captivity, Hollywood heavyweights are hoping for the safe return of the 220 innocent people who are still being held hostage by Hamas.
“We are heartened by Friday’s release of the two American hostages, Judith Ranaan and her daughter Natalie Ranaan and by today’s release of two Israelis, Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz, whose husbands remain in captivity,” the letter read.
The letter continued, “But our relief is tempered by our overwhelming concern that 220 innocent people, including 30 children, remain captive by terrorists, threatened with torture and death. They were taken by Hamas in the savage massacre of October 7, where over 1,400 Israelis were slaughtered – women raped, families burned alive,...

Mere minutes after some of Hollywood’s biggest stars and executives issued a letter condemning the terror attacks on Israel and the taking of hundreds of hostages, The WGA East has publicly joined the Guild’s West Coast leadership in deciding to stay silent on the murderous siege of the Jewish state two weeks ago.
Admitting this “will strike some of you as inadequate,” Wgae president Lisa Takeuchi Cullen and others in the leadership said officially the Guild would be saying nothing on the matter – as a point of policy. At the same time they did note calling out “the atrocities in Israel committed by Hamas on October 7 and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza” on their personal social media feeds.

Sixteen years after making the ’80s slasher faux trailer Thanksgiving for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse, director Eli Roth has finally been able to make a full Thanksgiving feature. The film is set to reach theatres on November 17th – that being the Friday before Thanksgiving this year – and today we’ve gotten our hands on a short featurette in which Roth discusses the film. He even goes so far as to say, “This has to be the movie that if I never make another film, it doesn’t matter. I made this one, that’s enough.” You can watch the featurette, followed by the full trailer, in the embed above.
Roth has been wanting to make a feature version of Thanksgiving ever since he made the faux trailer, and even wrote the screenplay with Jeff Rendell (who played the homicidal pilgrim in the trailer) a dozen years ago.

Joel Edgerton Coaches An Underdog Rowing Team in George Clooney’s ‘Boys in the Boat’ Trailer (Video)
When money, food and shelter were in short supply, joining a rowing team was a matter of life and death. That’s the hook in George Clooney’s latest directorial effort, “The Boys in the Boat.”
Based on Daniel James Brown’s non-fiction novel, the picture concerns the 1936 University of Washington rowing team that competed at the Summer Olympics in Berlin. The trailer hits all the underdog sports team cliches, although cliches become as much for a reason. The picture looks handsomely staged and impeccably acted by the likes of Joel Edgerton and Callum Turner.
This marks Clooney’s first directorial effort since the Ben Affleck-starring “The Tender Bar” in 2021. It’s unquestionably a sign of the times that Clooney hasn’t directed a feature for a theatrically focused studio since “Rubicon” for Paramount in late 2017.
To be fair, Amazon and MGM Studios will give this Spyglass/Smokehouse feature...

4th Update, Oct 16: Casey Wasserman is the latest Hollywood heavyweight to speak out in support of Israel.
“There is no justification for this,” the Wasserman chairman-ceo – and chairman of the L.A. 2028 committee – reportedly said at an International Olympic Committee session in Mumbai on Monday. “I unequivocally stand in solidarity with Israel, but let me be clear I also stand with the innocent civilians in Gaza who did not choose this war.”
Referencing the terrorist kidnapping of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Games, Wasserman continued, “Unfortunately, the Olympics are not immune to the world we live in.
“At its worst, it is a platform for hate to express itself on the stage and we will always remember the 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team who were taken hostage and murdered in Munich.
“But at its best it is an opportunity for sport to show the world a better path with peace and unity,...

The New York Comic-Con panel for TriStar and Spyglass’ Eli Roth directed horror movie, Thanksgiving, just canceled. No reason was provided by the studio. A sit-down chat with the genre filmmaker, who was going to show off a featurette in the room, was to take place tomorrow, Oct. 13 at the Empire Stage in the Javits Center at 8 30Pm.
One source says the last-minute pull-out was due to a “scheduling issue”. We hear at this time that no other panels at Nycc are expected to cancel tomorrow.
Roth’s Thanksgiving, which is set for a Nov. 17 theatrical release, is based off his faux trailer in Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s 2007 Grindhouse film.
Roth directed and co-wrote with Jeff Rendell. Pic, which is produced by Roger Birnbaum, Roth and Rendell, follows a Turkey Day inspired killer who terrorizes Plymouth, Mass after a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy. EPs are Gary Barber,...

Director George Clooney opens MGM’s behind-the-scenes The Boys in the Boat featurette with a reminder that rowing in the 1920s was one of the most attended sports in the United States. Clooney’s new film tells the true story of an underdog team made up of, as Clooney describes them, “strong, tough kids” who were poor and competed in rowing in order to stay in college.
Based on Daniel James Brown’s book, The Boys in the Boat stars Joel Edgerton as Al Ulbrickson, Callum Turner as Joe Rantz, Chris Diamantopoulos as Royal Brougham, and James Wolk as Coach Bolles. Bruce Herbelin-Earle plays Shorty Hunt, Wil Coban is Jim McMillan, Hadley Robinson is Joyce Sidmar, Sam Strike is Roger Morris, and Thomas Elms is Chuck Day.
The ensemble also includes Joel Phillimore as Gordy Adam, Tom Varey as Johnny White, Jack Mulhern as Don Hume, and Luke Slattery as Bobby Moch.

It’s not just a turkey that gets carved in the teaser trailer for Sony Pictures’ holiday-themed horror offering Thanksgiving.
The slasher film from director Eli Roth hits theaters Nov. 17 and stars Patrick Dempsey and Addison Rae. Thanksgiving is based on a fake trailer that Roth made for co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 film Grindhouse.
Thanksgiving focuses on a serial killer heading to a small Massachusetts town with the goal of making the titular holiday a bloody one. The cast includes Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlaque, Milo Manheim, Gina Gershon, Tim Dillon and Rick Hoffman.
“Thanksgiving is a time for appreciation,” Hoffman’s character says in the teaser. “It’s a time to remember our many blessings — to celebrate with the ones that we love the most — and a time for all families to be together.”
The spot shows an axe-wielding villain in a pilgrim hat wreaking havoc on the town’s denizens,...

Robert Rodriguez is a filmmaker who found a way to work his career on his own terms. It helps that he is practically self-sustaining with his own studio and insists on doing some of the biggest parts of productions himself. The filmmaker recently explored the Hitchcockian thriller world with his mind-bending suspense film, Hypnotic, with Ben Affleck. Rodriguez is also a family-oriented director in every sense. Not only has he had success with the family action series, Spy Kids, but he also involves his own family with his movies. His cousins have been featured in his films, his former wife continues to be a producing partner, and his sons are now joining him behind the camera.

After more than a decade away, Robert Rodriguez is bringing back "Spy Kids." This time, the filmmaker has re-teamed with Netflix following 2020's "We Can Be Heroes" to reboot the once-popular kid-friendly action franchise with "Spy Kids: Armageddon." Today, we got a new look at the film in the form of a trailer, which sets up the series with a new cast for a new generation. 22 years after the original became a big hit, it's time to smack the restart button.
The cast is led by Gina Rodriguez ("Jane the Virgin") and Zachary Levi ("Shazam!") as the new parents whose kids discover that they are actually spies. The cast also includes Everly Carganilla ("Yes Day") and Connor Esterson ("Chad") as the kids in question, with Billy Magnussen ("No Time to Die"), and D.J. Cotrona ("Shazam! Fury of the Gods") rounding out the ensemble. What does "Spy Kids" look like in 2023? Let's take a gander.
