Winona Ryder offered new details about an encounter with Mel Gibson in which she alleges that the “Braveheart” star made homophobic and anti-Semitic remarks, claiming that he made the comments at a party in the 1990s.
The actress has accused Gibson of making bigoted comments in her presence for years, but those allegations resurfaced in a recent interview with the Sunday Times. Gibson, through a representative, hit back at those charges, calling them “100% untrue” and saying that Ryder was lying and had lied about their encounter for decades. Now, Ryder is sticking by her story and providing more context for the alleged encounter.
“I believe in redemption and forgiveness and hope that Mr. Gibson has found a healthy way to deal with his demons, but I am not one of them,” she said in a statement to Variety. “Around 1996, my friend Kevyn Aucoin and I were on the receiving end of his hateful words.

“We were at a crowded party with one of my good friends, and Mel Gibson was smoking a cigar, and we’re all talking and he said to my friend, who’s gay, ‘Oh wait, am I gonna get AIDS?’ And then something came up about Jews, and he said, ‘You’re not an oven dodger, are you,'” Ryder told the London-based Sunday Times while promoting her role in the HBO limited series “The Plot Against America.”

Between a high-profile press tour, a vortex of online negativity and a raging conversation around female genitalia, it is likely you are aware that Gwyneth Paltrow launched a docuseries on Netflix in late January.
“The Goop Lab,” announced exclusively by Variety last year, is a six-episode manifestation of Paltrow’s lifestyle brand Goop and its many content verticals, built around a central thesis that the Oscar winner described as “optimization of self.”
Response has played out across the normal spectrum on which Paltrow and Goop are received: adoration from like-minded seekers, interest from fashion and film fans, and invective from trolls and pockets of the medical community. During a recent conversation at Netflix headquarters in Los Angeles, Paltrow had an easy smile for all of it. She’s been here before.
“I will never understand the level of fascination and projection. But we don’t want to not change the conversation just to please everybody,...

Kevyn Aucoin may not be a household name, but considering all the celebrities who interacted with him over the course of his brief but spectacular career, he definitely had an impact. The documentary made about him, Kevyn Aucoin Beauty & the Beast in Me, which had its world premiere at this year’s Outfest, is a loving but even-handed portrait of a man who created a distinctive look for many supermodels, singers and actresses. Aucoin was a makeup artist, and if that sounds like a relatively minor field, the stars interviewed on camera would definitely disagree. Many of them believe that...

I just slap it on—the messier, the better. Then I smudge the heck out of it with my finger. I’ll get up into the creases if I want more depth and definition. After Lady Gaga toned things down for her "Edge of Glory" video, she returned to her usual decadent self for the "Yoü and I" clip, a candy-colored sci-fi love story, in which Gaga takes on many shapes (mermaid, sprite, man) and lovers (mad scientist, Jo Calderone) to end up with her version of a fairy-tale ending.
The video — which makes its TV premiere tonight at 7:49 p.m. Et/Pt on MTV and Logo, followed by a live Q&A with Gaga on MTV.com — is a nonstop feast for the eyes that recalls many of pop culture's greatest tales. Part creepy and part romantic, the Laurieann Gibson-directed video is a fable about...

Alexa here. Nathaniel's post on stars posing as other stars brought to mind a spread in Vogue that seared my brain when I was a teenager, so much so that I tore it out and saved it. After a bit of digging in our basement, I found it: a now-famous set of photos of Michelle Pfeiffer by Herb Ritts. This shoot has her posing as six different characters, which she chose herself. "I had lists and lists compiled, and I did a lot of reading, and it all kind of boiled down to these characters," she said in the accompanying interview.

as Laurence from Noël Coward's Private Lives
Another series I remember were the portraits Kevyn Aucoin shot for his books Making Faces and Face Forward (see here for Calista Flockhart as Audrey, Gwyneth as James Dean). I'm no pop culture historian, but I...

Lea Michele’s makeup artist tells you how to get her super pretty, golden summer look!
Something about wearing a heavy eye or lip in summer just seems a little off. If you’re looking for a makeup look that’s still sexy yet seasonally appropriate, look no further than Lea Michele’s ridiculously pretty golden makeup she wore to the Glee Academy Event in Los Angeles on July 27. “We decided to go for a very light summer makeup look,” says celebrity makeup artist Melanie Inglessis, Lea’s go-to beauty pro. “It was very romantic,” Melanie says of the look that only took her twenty minutes to achieve.
“I started with the eyebrows,” Melanie says. “I always start with brows to frame the face.” She lightly filled in Lea’s arches and groomed them into place. To give Lea’s face a satin finish, she used a cream-based...

One of the best parts of the almost too good to be true Lifetime TV show Drop Dead Diva, is that it has marked Margaret Cho’s return to series television. Cho recently spoke about her character, Teri, her dream guest star (hey, Kim Kardashian have your people call Cho’s people), and Ddd’s message of empowerment. Read what she had to say and start your countdown to the Drop Dead Diva season premiere this Sunday, June 6 at 9:00 Pm.
Q: How did Teri get so snarky?
Margaret: I think that the character was written – sometimes I think a lot of the characters developed between my conversations just with Josh Berman and hanging out and things that I've said and done, they wind up in script. I don't find her particularly snarky. She's... in a sense what she reminds me of is kind of like an old,...

Kristen Stewart rocked the Runaways red carpet in a bold, bright lip. Her makeup artists tells you how you can too!
Kristen Stewart did not disappoint at the NYC premiere of her new film, The Runaways on Mar. 17. Although she didn’t opt for her character Joan Jett’s signature smoky eye, she did go for a gorgeous bright pink lip. “Her dress was quite strong so we didn’t want to do anything too severe,” says her makeup artist Beau Nelson. “Last night I wanted to do something that was a little more pretty, something with some color.” Beau promises this bright rose hue would look great on most skin tones.
Here’s how Beau got Kristen’s look!

Gwyneth Paltrow has ended her feud with makeup artist to the stars Kevyn Aucoin - because he's good for her image. Aucoin - a favourite of the Shakespeare In Love beauty - is the uncontested maestro of makeup, and reportedly charges upwards of $7,000 for a face. But, according to a friend, the pair had a falling out. The pal explains, "Kevyn went to Gwyneth's apartment to do her makeup and was acting way too friendly and familiar for Gwyneth's taste. When he got there it was still early by her standards, and he was going around opening the blinds and making himself tea. She was furious. She said he didn't know his place and that she'd never let him work on her face again." However, it seems the feud has now ended - Aucoin has just set up a new website, and names Paltrow under the banner 'People We Love'. The friend adds, "Gwyneth is absolutely desperate to make Shallow Hal a hit and get back into the good graces of the public. When someone can transform your face the way Kevin does, you put your ego on hold, even if you're Gwyneth." A spokeswoman for Paltrow insists that there never was any rift.
