"Let's see how this tastes..." Hulu has revealed the official trailer for a new streaming series called Nada, created by the Argentinian filmmakers Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat, who last made the fun meta film Official Competition and the series "El Encargado". In this Argentine dramedy, Manuel is the quintessential Buenos Aires native. A food critic, aesthete, and all-around provocateur, Manuel has lived for decades with a woman who handles nearly all the tasks in his daily life. But when she passes away, everything changes – and Manuel begins to discover that he doesn't know how to do anything for himself. "A story about culture and life, and about how a change in your routine can lead you on a surprisingly tender adventure." Luis Brandoni stars as Manuel, and Robert De Niro makes an appearance as his old friend from New York, who joins him in Buenos Aires to walk around the city and chat.

Michael Maxxis’ Puppy Love was the big winner at the 27th Oldenburg International Film Festival, scooping both the German Independence — Spirit of Cinema honor for best film and the best actress honor for star Paz de la Huerta.
The unconventional love story stars de la Huerta as a drug-addicted prostitute and Hopper Jack Penn as a guy working in a fast food joint who falls hard for her. Puppy Love opened this year’s Oldenburg Film Festival in its world premiere.

Variety has been given access to an exclusive clip and poster from Toronto Special Presentation “La Odisea de los Giles” (“Heroic Losers”) which, starring Ricardo Darín, has just scored in is native Argentina a standout opening weekend of Peso 58.8 million ($1.1 million) and 316,300 admissions for Warner Bros. Pictures.
With “Heroic Losers” having released on Thursday Aug. 15, that four-day first weekend bow is two-to-three times better than any other national title of the year, putting “Heroic Losers” well on track to become the highest-grossing Argentine movie of 2019 in Argentina.
The news would be if the film hadn’t made that kind of box office. It has been released in prime mid-August box office real-estate, when local audiences now expect a big Argentine movie.
Rarely, moreover, has an Argentine movie weighed in with such a pedigree package. A feel-good revenge heist comedy-thriller, studded with tragedy which gives the film momentary harder edges, “Heroic Losers” features the star,...

An intriguing premise doesn't quite pan out as Carl had hoped with The Man Next Door...
Starting with a bang, The Man Next Door is about just that. A successful designer has a massive and wonderfully designed studio apartment for a house, in which he lives with his wife and daughter. He lives a happy life, that is, until the next door neighbour decides to create a window which looks straight into his home.
The film starts with a two shot split right down the middle, one dark and the other light. We see a sledgehammer smashing into the dark side over and over again relentlessly. Soon the white side starts to crumble, and soon the exterior of the wall falls off. Before long, bricks start falling through, and we see the idea of the film come to light.
Leonardo (Rafael Spregelburd) isn't happy about this, and so he shouts...

The Man Next Door is working it’s magic in the World Dramatic Competition and Sundance. It comes from Argentina, and demands that it be noticed. It’s directed by two promising young men, Mariano Cohn, and Gastón Duprat, who co-wrote the script together as well. And are both credited as the film’s cinematography. Narcissistic much?
The film is overwhelming simple in it’s storyline. An extremely successful designer named Leonardo, lives in a home named Casa Curutchet. The only home that Le Corbusier built in the Americas. Apparently it’s a big deal in Argentina. He lives there with his wife and daughter. They’re awakened one morning to the noise of a sledgehammer, he finds that a neighbor has torn a hole in one of the Modernist icon’s perfect white walls, intending to build a window for the house on the other side.

Sundance released their slate for 2010. It includes:43 documentaries on the Middle East12 films about friends who 'discover' something33 movies about people you've never heard about1 comedyHopefully the lineup this year is strong but it doesn't look that way compared to last year. Last year we had Push (Precious), that Lil Wayne documentary that never went anywhere, Mystery Team which might make my top ten, Moon, Mike Tyson documentary, Cold Souls. Just so much last January that was excellent. I hope I don't go out therer and freeze my tail off just to see...I don't know, a documentary about a former Pakistani prime minister or something silly like that. Here's the lineup so far: Premieres To showcase the diversity to contemporary independent cinema, the Sundance Film Festival Premieres section offers the latest work from American and international directors as well as world premieres of highly anticipated films. Presented by Entertainment Weekly.

The Sundance Film Festival has unveiled the lineup of films playing in competition from January 21 through January 31, 2010. The early fest typically debuts some of the best films the year has to offer, like 2009’s Precious, (500) Days of Summer, and Moon.
I’m bummed I won’t be in Park City, Utah next month because the lineup looks great, and these are just the films playing in competition. Here’s a few that stood out to me:
The Allen Ginsberg trial film Howl starring James Franco, a documentary by Alex Gibney (a truly great filmmaker) on Jack Abramoff, Mark Ruffalo’s directorial debut Sympathy for Delicious, a doc about Joan Rivers, the directorial debut of “How I Met Your Mother” star Josh Radnor titled Happythankyoumoreplease (I wrote a glowing script review of it here), Hesher with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Natalie Portman, and Blue Valentine starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams.
