For several days, the question on the lips of social media, and hanging in the air of workplace kitchenettes, has been: how will Happy Valley end? Will Ryan be forced to choose between his dad and his granny, like a Labrador torn between a handful of salami and a fistful of mini cheddars? Will Catherine finally send Tommy off to meet his maker? Or would her planned retirement trip to the Himalayas fail to make it over the Pennines? In the end, the finale unfolded in true Happy Valley fashion: a touch of bathos, a splash of bleak humour, and a great slug of relief. “Tlr dead,” comes the simple, understated, text message, which lowers the curtain on a great British saga.
In the seven years that Happy Valley was off-air, between its second outing in 2016 and this latest series, it developed an almost mystical quality – at least in my household.

Martin Compston has addressed ongoing rumours about another series of Line of Duty.
Series six of Line of Duty came to an end in May 2021. While many have speculated that another series is in the pipeline, there has been no official confirmation so far.
Compston, who plays Detective Inspector Steve Arnott in the hit BBC crime drama, was asked about the prospect of a seventh series during an appearance on Good Morning Britain on Friday (30 December).
The Scottish actor said: “Look, nothing’s changed. I’m really chuffed, we’re really delighted people still want us back. That conversation, we had a really honest one [about] whether we were all up for doing it again, and I believe we all are.
“But unfortunately, at this point in time, there’s nothing immediate, there’s nothing coming very soon. I think we’d all like to at some point, it’s just all getting us together.

This feature contains spoilers for all series of Line of Duty
If, like much of the UK, you are still nowhere near over that Line of Duty series six finale from May 2021, you might be wondering if that really was it for the nation’s favourite crime drama. Will there be a series seven of Line of Duty? This question is becoming as oft repeated as ‘just how many waistcoats does Steve Arnott own?’ and ‘Seriously – Buckells?!’
When asked about it, the show’s cast have been teasingly vague: back in August, Martin Compston said ‘there’s always a chance’ whereas in early October Adrian Dunbar went one step further, saying ‘Within the next few weeks or couple of months we might hear something.’ So far, so promising.
As of this week, however, series mastermind Jed Mercurio gave the latest official update as: ‘There’s no news.’ We won’t...

During an interview with Radio X show “The Chris Moyles Show,” “Line of Duty” star Martin Compston weighed in on the future of the popular British police procedural.
Compston was asked by host Moyles about updates on “Line of Duty,” which last aired its sixth season in May. Compston shared his belief that the show would return, clarifying that an extended hiatus between seasons isn’t new for the series, which has aired a new season once every two years since its premiere in 2012.
“I’m delighted with the response,” Compston said. “People are now really intrigued to see if there is another one, but there’s nothing changed for us in terms of where we’re at after we finish a series… We always take a year between [seasons] at least. The dust settles and [creator Jed Mercurio] figures out whether there’s a story to tell. So I’m delighted...

UK ratings phenom Line of Duty did not disappoint with its season 6 finale. The season ender was watched by an average of 12.8 million viewers Sunday night, a record for the World Productions-produced BBC police corruption drama.

Warning: contains spoilers for the Line of Duty series six finale.
“The genuine answer is we don’t know,” Line of Duty actor Martin Compston told the Shrine of Duty podcast last week about whether or not the BBC One crime drama will return. “But that’s nothing different for us. Jed always takes his time.” As reported by Radio Times, Compston explained, “After a series, [creator Jed Mercurio] always takes a couple of months… I think he likes to take the emotion out of it and sit down and look at all that.”
To judge by series six’s mammoth audience numbers, a seventh series would seem like a no-brainer, and yet there’s still no commission announcement.
In previous years, the BBC commissioned two Line of Duty series at a time. After the hit second run featuring Keeley Hawes as Lindsay Denton, a third and fourth series were ordered.
