This week’s Parenthood finds Amber’s engagement news going over well with some of the Braverman brood, while Julia meets a prospective homewrecker (Hi, Office vet!) and Hank roars back into Sarah’s life with a subtle vengeance.
Here, we breakdown the seven key takeaways from the acclaimed NBC drama’s latest installment:
• A Braverman “Welcome Home!” is better than all others. Finally back from his deployment, Ryan is greeted by all 647 family members with much fanfare. Zeke, in particular, embraces his veteran buddy with a very long (and very emotional) hug.
• David Denman is Roy Anderson no more.

As a part of the superb line-up of the 49th New York Film Festival, The Film Society of Lincoln Center’s young patron’s group New Wave celebrated the 10th Anniversary of The Royal Tenenbaums with a screening and Q&A featuring Wes Anderson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anjelica Huston, Bill Murray, Noah Baumbach and Eric Anderson. As someone who has long counted this quirky tale of an oddball clan of geniuses as one of her favorite films, I was among the first ticketholders to trickle into the expansive and awe-inspiring cavern that is Alice Tully Hall.
Here giddy twenty-somethings, who (like myself) must have taken to Anderson’s bittersweet yet hopeful worldview in their formative years, trickled in. Several even emulated Anderson’s recurring gentle but warm color palette in their outfits, favoring light browns, pinks and pale yellows in the forms of suit jackets, sweatervests and polo shirts. Allen Plone is the director of the 1988 slasher Night Screams featuring Ron Thomas of The Karate Kid fame and Janette Coldwell. Night Screams was notorious for having footage of vintage porn featuring Seka and John Holmes spliced into the proceedings. There was also footage of the Herb Freed slasher Graduation Day that featured Linnea Quigley and Christopher George spliced into Night Screams. Still, flaws and all, Night Screams was a corny good time that featured a body count of over 20 on screen death sequences making that one of the highest of any slasher to come out around that period. Night Screams deals with teenagers holding a party after the big football party to celebrate, but unbeknowest to them some escaped psycho killers are lurking in the basement possibly dispatching all the party goers. Director Allen Plone reminisced with me on what it was like making this movie. Here is what he had to say.

Falcon 9 is SpaceX's flagship rocket, and a great leap forward for President Obama's plans to diversify the space industry (video of launch below). The vehicle will help ferry cargo up to the International Space Station in the years between Nasa's retirement of the Space Shuttles and developing a new heavy-lift launch capability of its own. It's 55 meters tall, and powered by nine of the same Merlin engines that SpaceX has been developing for years to power its fleet. These specs make the vehicle a promising medium-heavy lift rocket, capable of carrying payloads that measure up to 11 meters tall. And they're also good enough that one day the rocket may be able to be human cargo-ratable, turning it into a serious alternative launch system for Nasa to consider for the manned space missions.

An unusually diverse group of men and women will judge this year's Idea Awards, as the organization seeks to retool its mission. Not too late to enter: Deadline has been extended to Feb. 15.
A panel of 10 men and eight women has been chosen as the jury for the 2010 Idea Awards, says John Barratt, president and CEO of Teague, and Idsa 2010 Jury Chair. Drawing from 38 countries, the Idea (International Design Excellence Awards) program, sponsored by the Industrial Designers Society of America, is a top international competition honoring design excellence in products, ecodesign, interaction design, packaging, strategy, research, and concepts.
The diverse group reflects the organization's commitment to fielding a globally-sourced jury. "The competition is open to international entries, so we made sure to have jurors from the U.K., France, Germany, Japan, and the Netherlands, and others who have had global work experience," Barratt said.
The jury also includes student representation,...

Please tell me how to become the next Kate Gosselin. I love her. —KateFuture, via the Answer B!tch inbox You mean other than birthing a litter of children, pimping them out for money and sharing every second of your crumbling marriage with the whole planet? The simplest answer is to have a big mouth and know exactly where to present it. Believe it or not, those casting calls on Craigslist are for real, and producers use them all the time, reality TV story editor Eric Anderson tells me. "People are looking for over-the-top personalities," says Anderson, who works on Ice Road Truckers. "You don't exactly have the budgets for explosions." But what if you aren't...
