The thriller The Woman in the Yard, which is coming our way from Blumhouse Productions, Universal Pictures, and director Jaume Collet-Serra, was once set to reach theatres on January 10, 2025, but it was recently bumped off the Universal release slate entirely to make room for another Blumhouse / Universal collaboration, the Wolf Man reboot directed by Leigh Whannell. (Wolf Man is now scheduled for a January 17 release.) The release date shake-up isn’t slowing down The Woman in the Yard‘s momentum, though. Deadline reports that the project has just added another cast member: Russell Hornsby of The Hate U Give and Fences.
Hornsby joins the previously announced Danielle Deadwyler of The Devil to Pay and Till in the cast. Okwui Okpokwasili of The Exorcist: Believer and I Am Legend is also in there.

Blumhouse Productions and The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell are bringing us another reboot of a classic Universal Pictures property with Wolf Man, which had the perfect release date: October 25th, delivering werewolf action to the big screen just in time for Halloween. But Wolf Man only just started filming earlier this month, and the filmmakers clearly feel that they need more than seven months to get it ready for theatres. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Wolf Man‘s release has been delayed, pushed back to January 17, 2025. The studio already had another Blumhouse project scheduled for a January 10th release, the Jaume Collet-Serra / Danielle Deadwyler thriller The Woman in the Yard… but with Wolf Man moving to January, The Woman in the Yard has been bumped off the schedule entirely. We’ll have to wait and see when Universal will decide to release that one.

Universal Pictures is shifting its wide release of Blumhouse’s “Wolf Man” from Oct. 25, 2024 to Jan. 17, 2025.
“Wolf Man” is billed as a blood-chilling reimagining of the classic Universal monster pic. The film is directed by Leigh Whannell, who wrote the script with Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo (“Dumb Money”). Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott stars as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.
The film will reunite Abbott with co-star Julia Garner, with whom she starred in 2011’s “Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene,” her first professional acting role.
Whannell’s previous films with Blumhouse include “Invisible Man,” “Upgrade” and “Insidious: Chapter 3.” “Wolf Man” is produced by Blumhouse founder and CEO Jason Blum and is executive produced by Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell. Not a trick, definitely not a treat: Universal Pictures has pulled Blumhouse’s “Wolf Man” from its primo Halloween 2024 release, and has re-dated the wide release for January 17, 2025.
With “Wolf Man” now in mid-January 2025, Universal took Blumhouse’s “The Woman in the Yard” — originally slated for January 10, 2025 — off its schedule. That one, starring Danielle Deadwyler, “is now unset and will be re-dated for a later date,” Universal said on Friday. In other words, it definitely won’t be replacing “Wolf Man” this coming Halloween season.
Jason Blum can’t buy a date lately around his favorite holiday. This past Halloween, it was Taylor Swift who ruined his (and others’) best-laid plans. When Swift announced her concert film, “The Eras Tour,” would release in theaters on October 13, 2023, Blum (wisely) chose to move “The Exorcist: Believer” off of its very suitable original date of Friday the 13th. In October. Eighteen days ahead of Halloween.

Universal Pictures is adjusting its plans for two upcoming horror titles from Blumhouse.
The studio announced Friday that Wolf Man, the werewolf thriller from filmmaker Leigh Whannell (Invisible Man), has delayed its release by three months and will now open wide in theaters Jan. 17, 2025. Wolf Man, which stars Christopher Abbott (Poor Things) as a man whose family is stalked by a dangerous predator, was written and directed by Whannell. It had previously been scheduled for a pre-Halloween release on Oct. 25, 2024.
Blumhouse and Motel Movies are behind Wolf Man, which also stars Julia Garner and previously had Ryan Gosling attached as the lead. Jason Blum produces the movie that reinvents the classic Universal monster and counts Whannell, Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira and Mel Turner as executive producers.
Additionally, Universal announced that Blumhouse’s The Woman in the Yard, which was previously set for theatrical release Jan. 10, 2025, has been removed from the calendar.

Universal Pictures and Peacock forked over an amount somewhere in the range of $400 million to acquire the rights to distribute a trilogy of sequels to the 1973 classic The Exorcist, which we’re going to another collaboration between Blumhouse Productions and directed David Gordon Green (who recently delivered a trilogy of Halloween sequels), they were definitely expecting the first entry in the new trilogy to go over better with audiences than The Exorcist: Believer did when it was released last October. (You can read our 4/10 review Here.) The box office numbers were okay, the movie pulled in $137 million on a $30 million budget, but Universal was hoping for a lot better than “okay,” and the reactions were largely negative. Soon after the release of Believer, we heard that Universal and Blumhouse still intended to carry out the trilogy, but the follow-ups would be reworked. If its wins at the recent Screen Actors Guild Awards did not send enough of a message that “Oppenheimer” is far and away the frontrunner for Best Picture at the 2024 Oscars, the film’s receiving the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures at the Producers Guild of America Awards on Sunday, February 25 almost certainly sealed the deal.
In her acceptance speech, “Oppenheimer” executive producer Emma Thomas was quick to to first thank the guild in general for the work that they do, as earlier in the evening, PGA co-presidents Stephanie Allain and Donald De Line announced a historic initiative to fund health insurance for full-time working producers in the guild. After that, however, she was also sure to make note of how writer/director Christopher Nolan (both her husband and business partner) also happens to be “the best producer. He’s absolutely brilliant.”

At the 35th annual PGA Awards on Sunday, the Producers Guild of America announced an initiative aimed at ensuring health insurance benefits for every qualified producer working full-time in the film and TV industry.
“Producers, unlike unionized creative professionals in the industry, lack guaranteed health insurance benefits. No one should go without these essential benefits. Producing is challenging enough without the added anxiety of wondering how you are going to obtain health coverage for you and your family,” PGA presidents Stephanie Allain and Donald De Line said in a statement.
The guild is asking that all production companies, including studios and streamers, provide health benefits for qualified producers with credits recognized by the PGA who are working full-time on their eligible projects by (1) making contributions through the Motion Picture Industry Pension and Health Plan for eligible producers on qualifying productions; and (2) for all other producers who can’t access benefits...

The Producers Guild of America used the platform of its annual awards ceremony Sunday to launch a drive to help secure health insurance coverage for Hollywood’s working producers. The guild is asking studios, streamers and other large-scale content companies to help fund health insurance for “qualified producers” through line items in TV and film production budgets.
PGA presidents Stephanie Allain and Donald De Line unveiled the health care initiative during their address to the audience at the Hollywood & Highland’s Ray Dolby Ballroom. The push is designed to close the gap between producers and Hollywood’s other creative guilds by giving those who meet PGA criteria easy access to health insurance coverage.

Many awards ceremonies champion themselves as stepping stones to the Oscars, but the Producers Guild of America Awards — to be presented Feb. 25 at Ovation Hollywood’s Ray Dolby Ballroom — have an enviable track record to support the claim. The winner of the PGA’s top prize, the Darryl F. Zanuck Award, has matched the Oscar winner for best picture for 15 of the last 20 years, and 24 of the 33 years since the first ceremony in 1990.
For Donald De Line, a studio exec turned producer who serves as PGA president alongside Stephanie Allain, the guild’s track record adds to the anticipation surrounding the pre-Oscar kudofest. “Part of the fun is the horse race and the excitement of it all,” he says.
This year, the 10 Zanuck nominees are a 100% match for those on the Oscar ballot for best picture, and the event falls in the middle of final voting for the Academy Awards.

Taking place on Jan. 19 inside The Hollywood Reporter’s studio (sponsored by Heineken, Hyundai, Bogner and Sixt), Allain was explaining how best to describe a producer’s job and the all-encompassing duties they shoulder.
“What don’t we do? On a recent Screen Talk podcast, producers Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman said they specifically tried to avoid overhyping T-Street’s film “Fair Play” before it sold to Netflix for $20 million and became Sundance 2023’s biggest sale. It’s almost time again for me to pack my bags and head to Park City, Utah, for the 2024 edition of the Sundance Film Festival. The last few years have been challenging for the fest, with the 2021 and 2022 editions only being online due to the pandemic. The 2023 edition was a hybrid version that sported a few high-profile debuts, including A24’s horror hit Talk to Me, but overall was a bit of a modest year in terms of stuff that broke out. However, 2024 seems to be a high-end year for the fest, with tons of big stars on the way to the festival, including Pedro Pascal, Kristen Stewart (there with two movies), Sebastian Stan, Woody Harrelson and many more.
It’s always interesting to note the trend in storytelling at this famous indie fest. In recent years, the pandemic weighed highly on the fest, with many films acknowledging the toll it took,...

Amazon listings had previously said that The Exorcist: Believer (our review can be read Here), the latest entry in the Exorcist franchise, wouldn’t be reaching physical media until July of 2024, but thankfully that’s not the case. The movie is available on PVOD – you can buy it from Amazon’s Prime Video at This Link – and will be available to watch through the Peacock streaming service as of December 1st. But if you’re holding out for physical media, you’ll only have to wait until December 19th for The Exorcist: Believer to get its 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD release.
