President Joe Biden’s dog, Commander Biden, has been removed from the White House. This comes after several biting incidents involving the dog.
According to reports, Commander bit a Secret Service agent in the White House last month, it’s the 11th known incident of Commander biting White House or Secret Service personnel.
Commander arrived at the White House after their previous dog, Major Biden, was also caught biting Secret Service and White House staff. They sent the dog to live with friends in Delaware. Major was reported to be so aggressive that it could threaten a lawsuit.
Elizabeth Alexander, the communications director for Jill Biden, stated that the First Family cares deeply about the White House staff and the Secret Service.

President Joe Biden’s German shepherd, Commander, bit a U.S. Secret Service agent at the White House on Monday evening. This marks the dog’s 11th known incident of this sort.
“Yesterday around 8:00 p.m., a Secret Service Uniformed Division police officer came in contact with a First Family pet and was bitten. The officer was treated by medical personnel on complex,” Usss chief of communications Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement.
Commander has bitten government personnel at least 11 other times, both at the White House and at Biden’s Delaware home. One officer was even hospitalized in 2022 after the dog bit his arms and thighs.
In July, White House officials claimed that the First Family was experimenting with new training and leashing protocols for Commander. According to the communications director for the First Lady Elizabeth Alexander, the Bidens are continuing to “work on ways to help Commander...

For 24 years, The New Yorker has leaned on the talents of actors, writers, and others from the world of Hollywood to be a part of its annual New Yorker Festival, which will be held this year Oct. 6-8.
The ongoing Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes have thrown a wrench in many plans that have traditionally relied on Hollywood talent, but the festival will go on, New Yorker editor David Remnick tells The Hollywood Reporter. And there will still be plenty of star power.
The New Yorker, of course, is not owned by a struck company, but SAG has advised its members not to promote projects from studios that have not signed interim agreements, and the Condé Nast-owned publication has had to adapt accordingly: “We faced a challenge or two,” Remnick says.

President Joe Biden’s German shepherd Commander bit seven Secret Service agents in recent months. One officer was even sent to the hospital.
Commander has reportedly attacked White House staff and bit them on their arms, thighs and lower backs.
When asked on Tuesday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre did not say whether Commander bit anyone else outside the four-month period noted by Judicial Watch through Freedom of Information Act litigation.
Officials said that the dog, though a member of the First Family, should still be regarded as a pet.
“The White House complex is a unique and often stressful environment for family pets, and the First Family is working through ways to make this situation better for everyone,” said first lady Jill Biden’s spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander in a statement.

When it comes to films about children bonding with animals, fish don’t generally get much of a look-in. There’s an assumption that they’re too limited in intelligence for any real connection to form, but that notion is quickly dismissed in this conservation-focused tale from Robert Connolly. As its heroine Abby (Ariel Donaghue/Ilsa Fogg) learns, the blue grouper who lives near her childhood home can live to around the same age as a human, and its territoriality means that they have a mutual relationship to the reef upon which to build the rest.
The reef, however, is under threat – like many of those still surviving around Australia’s coast. We learn all this in retrospect from the adult Abby (Mia Wasikowska), an ecologist who is working in different waters when she gets a call informing her that her mother Dora (Elizabeth Alexander) has had a stroke. When she returns to her home.

"The only way to make sure he's safe, is to keep him secret." Quiver Distribution has revealed an official US trailer for the Australian eco drama Blueback, now set to open in theaters (nationwide!!) in March in the US. The film originally premiered at TIFF 2022 last fall, and already opened in Australia earlier in the year. Most recently it just played at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival last monh. An inspiring story for the whole family, Tim Winton's best-selling novel comes to life on the big screen. The latest film from The Dry director Robert Connolly, starring Mia Wasikowska. The story follows Abby, a young girl who initially befriends a magnificent wild blue groper while diving. When she's older, Abby realizes that the fish is under threat, and she takes inspiration from her activist Mum, Dora, taking on the poachers to save her friend. The film also stars Radha Mitchell,...

Following on the heels of international hit “The Dry,” veteran Australian director Robert Connelly has tackled another local literary adaptation in “Blueback,” based on his celebrated compatriot Tim Winton’s 1997 novella. That slender tome (subtitled “A Contemporary Fable”) was aimed primarily at younger readers. The film adopts a somewhat more grownup, realistic, less parabolic tenor, though its ecology-minded narrative remains a bit sketchy for feature treatment — resulting in a pleasant, very handsome-looking movie rather short on dramatic impact.
Nonetheless, it’s got more than enough significant plusses to offer, from an appealing cast led by Mia Wasikowska and Radha Mitchell to much spectacularly inviting underwater photography. Having already played a few other fests in advance of its Sundance showcase (and opened commercially in a few territories), it is slated for U.S. theatrical release by Quiver Distribution on Feb. 24, with VOD following April 21.

“Take a good close look at what we’re fighting for,” says Mia Wasikowska’s oceanographer in “Blueback,” as she scans the Australian bay where she grew up. She’s talking to a colleague, even as writer-director Robert Connolly (“Paper Planes”) is really saying the same thing to us.
Connolly has turned Tim Winton’s 1997 novella into his own environmental cri de coeur — premiering at the Toronto Film Festival — and while the specifics can get a bit clunky, his passion drives our interest all the way to the end.
The end is where we begin, actually, with Wasikowska’s Abby getting a call while she’s working. Her aging mother, Dora (Liz Alexander), has had a stroke, and Abby has to rush back to remote Longboat Bay (Western Australia’s Bremer Bay stands in for the fictional coast) to care for her.

Update, Wednesday Aug. 24: First Lady Jill Biden has tested positive for Covid again, in what her spokesperson described as a rebound case.
The first lady tested negative on Tuesday, but had a positive antigen test on Wednesday.
“The first lady has experienced no reemergence of symptoms, and will remain in Delaware where she has reinitiated isolation procedures,” said Kelsey Donohue, her deputy communications director.
President Joe Biden, who had an earlier case of Covid, tested negative on Wednesday, the White House said.

With apologies to Reverend Silvester Beaman, there was simply no following Amanda Gorman. The doctor from Delaware’s benediction was rousing and passionate, evoking plenty of other moving moments during Wednesday’s (thankfully) peaceful inauguration ceremony. But Gorman’s beautifully crafted words were a showstopper. That they didn’t, in fact, end the ceremony is a fact likely to be lost to time. Gorman’s poem, “The Hill We Climb,” grabbed hold of viewers from the jump and has yet to let go.
That’s very much by design. Inaugural poets are not a requisite of the ceremony. Including Gorman, only six such wordsmiths have read during U.S. Presidential Inaugurations, and only four presidents have heard them.
President Joe Biden’s ceremony mirrored Obama’s in many ways when it came to incorporating the poet laureate. In 2009, Poet Elizabeth Alexander read “Praise Song for the Day” right after Obama’s inaugural address,...

Queen Elizabeth II may have a lot of royal duties as the monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, but before becoming queen, she helped served her country in a different way. During World War II, the then-Princess Elizabeth joined the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service in 1945. As "Second Subaltern Elizabeth Alexander Mary Windsor," she ditched her traditional garb while she trained as a mechanic and driver and was eventually promoted to honorary junior commander five months later. Not only does her previous position make her the only female member of the royal family to have entered the armed forces, but she also currently stands as the only living head of state to have served in World War II. Pretty impressive! It looks like military men Prince William and Prince Harry take after their grandmother. Related:Look Back at the Queen's Most Memorable Moments by Decades12 Things...

With reports out of France that Woody Allen is shooting a cameo for the film "Paris Manhattan," a comedy from first-time director Sophie Lellouche in which part of the plot revolves around a pharmacist (Alice Taglioni) so obsessed with his work she prescribes DVDs of his films to patients, the 75-year-old filmmaker continues a tradition of picking peculiar projects to appear in outside of his own.

President Barack Obama. It's finally official, folks! Barack Obama has been sworn in as our Commander-in-Chief. After all the months of preparation and speculation, millions tuned in and turned out to witness what all the hype had been leading up to. What was Michelle going to wear?
