It's over...
The day has finally come, Heathens. After three glorious seasons, Salem said goodbye tonight. I'm just not ready for it to end!
At least the show went out with a proper ending on Salem Season 3 Episode 10. True to its warning, Black Sunday corrupted the town and nearly killed everyone. Not many were spared, including some of our main cast.
Salem has always felt like a fast-paced, supernatural thriller. It's creepy but with a dramatic edge, and it's not afraid to go there. (Case in point: the sibling incest on Salem Season 3 Episode 9.)
It makes sense that the finale would throw everything at us. Every twist and surprise to leave us wanting more. I loved that it wasn't a seamless "happily ever after" moment, because Salem isn't like that.
Did anyone expect all the sad endings this episode? I know it's the series finale, but seven of our main...

Evil has a strange way of celebrating victory. You would think the other side knows more about humanity and splendor...
The Sentinel is a kid in a candy shop on Salem Season 3 Episode 8. He's finally free of his controlling brother and gets to enjoy the little things in life. Regardless of the job he has to do.
This may be the first time all season we got to see into the mind and attitude of the Sentinel.
For the most part, he's been a one-note character: He's the "enforcer" to the real evil. His job is to bring on Black Sunday, help the dark lord, and act as a foe to our heroes. And he's lived up to his character structure – he is the evil demon we expect.
However, I didn't expect him to take the dark lord's death so hard, especially since he helped cause it. He hit the bottle hard!

Did that just happen?!
We need to take a moment to breathe and process the development.
They actually did it...
On Salem Season 3 Episode 7, the dark lord was quite literally ripped apart at the seams in one of the best moments of the series. Their biggest enemy is perhaps dead. It was amazing!
Kudos to the special effects team and writers on Salem; this was a surprising curve ball in the final four episodes. I did not expect this twist yet. Did you?
Everything featured had the makings of a great climax. The location of the woods paired with the dark and dreary vibe added to the tension. And once the vines started grabbing him and ripping him apart, it worked perfectly. The prosthetics almost looked realistic.
Dark Lord: You think a few rotten vines can hold me?
Essex Elder: Once, you were the source of Mary's power. Not anymore!

If there is one thing we learned tonight on Salem Season 3 Episode 5, the dark lord has a serious case of an Oedipus complex. Poor Mary!
As if things couldn't get any worse for our Queen Witch, she has to deal with this bombshell by her "somewhat-dead-totally-evil" son. This offer isn't exactly surprising in hindsight — the dark lord has been hinting at his love for her for a while. Still, his choice of Mary must stem from a mysterious place.
Dark Lord: And to fulfill the promise of your existence.
Mary: I do not understand.
Dark Lord: My father took on a suit of flesh, he required two Marys -- one to birth him and one to love him. But I only need one Mary. You...my mother...and my bride.

Why can't Cotton and Anne ever find happiness? I guess their love is doomed to be tortured.
Cotton's big escape on Salem Season 3 Episode 4 met every challenge you could think of to keep the preacher in town. Kidnapping, paternity twists, magic -- it was all on the menu. I did particularly like the introduction scene in the episode with Anne's warnings to Cotton and the special effects of her multiple personas. It showed every side to her and the reasons to keep him in Salem.
Cotton: I want nothing! I want nothing from you.
Anne: But there is nowhere for you to go.
Cotton: Boston. I will tell them the awful truth about Salem and they will raise this town!
Anne: Tell them everything?! Then they will hang you for the murder of your father.
Cotton: So let them hang me! So long as they believe, I will tell them all.

Long live the queen! Even death can't keep our Mary down.
Picking up from the season premiere, Salem Season 3 Episode 2 saw the return of the reigning mother witch, Mary Sibley. A future without Mary on Salem is almost too dark to imagine. It's possibly darker than whatever horror the dark lord has in mind.
The entire opening sequence with Tituba and the Essex witches captured everything you'd expect (and need) with Mary's return. The horrifying future, her reluctant acceptance, and the eerie fog/color that coated the scene – it was perfect. But the best part that clinched it may be the twist: Mary must stay in Salem Forever.
Mary: What have you done to me now, queen of bitches?
Tituba: Only ripped your soul through the wall of silence, cursed you back to life, and trapped you forever in the home of all your tears. Run as far and as fast as you may,...

Something wicked this way comes, and I'm not just talking about the dark lord. These characters are more devilishly evil. (And I like it!)
For the season three premiere, Salem Season 3 Episode 1 saw the characters do a role reversal since the last time we saw them. Cotton and John are no longer the leaders they once were, while Mercy and Anne are embracing having power. Even the dark lord is a shadow of his child-like self.
I was hesitant last season when little John became the big bad. I didn't know if he'd get his hands dirty and pose a threat. But after seeing him kill Countess Marburg last season and now pushing his authority over witches like Sebastian and Anne, I think I'm on board.
Remember dear ones, to the Reaper, all flesh is grass...even witch flesh. A great terror will soon fall upon Salem and there is...

No surprise, gothic rocker Marilyn Manson felt right at home on the set of Wgn America’s period thriller “Salem.”
The show, which returns for its third season on Wednesday night, adds several new characters this season – including Manson as the sadistic barber/surgeon Thomas Dinley. The set for Dinley’s office includes strange, dangerous-looking surgical instruments and bottles of formaldehyde with things floating in it.
“He walked in and said, ‘Oh, I’ve got that at home, I’ve got that at home,'” said executive producer Brannon Braga. “He fit right in.”
Manson (who also produced the show’s theme song) plays a character based on the real-life 17th century barbers who would also slice patients open for surgery. “He’s kind of a cross between Vidal Sassoon and Jack the Ripper,” Braga said. “There’s a little Sweeney Todd in there. He’s a human aligned with the witches,...

Welcome to the official Salem Season 3 trailer!!! The official details of the third season are:
The third season of Salem dawns with the triumph of the witches' plan to remake the New World by bringing the devil to earth and making Salem his capital.
But the devil is a liar, and instead of a New World free from murderous Puritan hypocrisy, his own plan will bring nothing but death and slavery with the ultimate aim of leading humanity to destroy itself.
And there's only one person on earth who can beat the devil -- the very witch that birthed him, his mother, Mary Sibley. The only problem is—she's dead. Or is she?
With just one trailer, we can knock most of the speculation right out of the air!
You know that feeling when everyone around you is a formerly dead witch, risen from the dead?
Oh, does that just happen in Salem?...

It's an exciting time to be a fan of Wgn America's Salem. At Comic-Con last week, the show was renewed for a third season and Daily Dead took part in roundtable interviews with the series' cast and crew, who discussed the blood-splattered storylines of season two and also looked ahead at what's to come in season three. [Spoiler warnings for those who aren't caught up on Salem.]
Ashley Madekwe and Seth Gabel on what they'd like to see Tituba and Cotton Mather experience in the third season:
Ashley Madekwe: I gave a great idea, we'll see if it happens, because if Tituba does come back, she's had her eyes pecked out. I gave an idea that maybe she uses something else as eyes. Maybe she uses some animal's eyes. I also pitched the idea that because Mary [Sibley] and Tituba have been at odds for so long, I would love for them to come across each other in the woods...

We're back with another video round-up that should excite fans of The Walking Dead, James Bond, and Salem's John Alden. The phrase "the best show you're not watching" gets thrown around a lot, but in the case of "Salem," it couldn't be more true. We've been singing its praises since Episode 1 so our mission at Sdcc was to find out what's ahead in Season 2.
Surprisingly, the powers-that-be, exec producers Brannon Braga and Adam Simon, were quite forthcoming while co-stars Janet Montgomery. Shane West, Seth Gabel, Ashley Madekwe, Iddo Goldberg, and Elise Eberle were all incredibly charming and obviously invested in their characters.
Beware in case you're not caught up as spoilers for Season 1 abound!
We've found the horror crowd to a bit slow to pick up on just how hardcore the show can be at times so we queried Braga as to how we can help raise awareness. "I like that our show is not plastered all over buses," he responded. "I like being the show that launched this network [Wgn America]; I think it's cool.

Hey guys, it’s Ryne from The Moon is a Dead World. We’re still trying to get caught up on all the horror shows right now, so this week we’re adding The Strain to the setlist, which Kevin will be covering along with Teen Wolf and Under the Dome. Shawn’s got True Blood and Extant. I’ve got the rest. Salem ends this week!
The Last Ship: “We’ll Get There” - Sunday, July 13 at 9 Pm
I’m a little disappointed in the lack of offensive right-wing material in “We’ll Get There.” After last week’s awful Russian dictator, I thought we might branch out to some sort of Chinese communist attack. Alas, we get feelings about sons and daughters, about family left behind; there’s a water shortage after the ship’s engine fails. In general, it’s a pretty serious episode without much to laugh about.

Mary Sibley is a woman who has been defined by her evilness, but at times Salem attempts to cast a light...
