Jim Carrey is reuniting with his “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” director Michel Gondry to star in a new half-hour comedy for Showtime. “Kidding,” which has been given a 10-episode order, will represent Carrey’s first series regular role in more than two decades.
“Kidding” stars Carrey as Jeff, also known as beloved children’s TV personality Mr. Pickles. Here’s the logline: “A beacon of kindness and wisdom to America’s impressionable young minds and the parents who grew up with him – [Jeff] also anchors a multimillion dollar branding empire. But when this beloved personality’s family – wife, two sons, sister and father – begins to implode, Jeff finds no fairy tale or fable or puppet will guide him through this crisis, which advances faster than his means to cope. The result: a kind man in a cruel world faces a slow leak of sanity as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.

"Sesame Street" celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2009, so, in many ways, the fact that a movie version of the popular kids program is in the works probably shouldn't be much of a surprise. Of course, there've been individual character movies like 1985’s "Follow That Bird" and 1999’s "The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland," but director Shawn Levy ("Real Steel") and his 21 Laps banner, along with fellow producers Michael Aguilar, Mark Gordon and Film 360's Guymon Casady, want to produce an adaptation of the entire show.
Familiar to almost everyone who has ever been a child, certainly in the U.S., "Sesame Street" is a mixture of animation, short films and sketches and songs performed by a cast of puppets and guest stars, all intended to amuse and educate children while offering parents or caregivers a much-needed break from chasing their kids around the house. The 4400 's Mark Kruger and Michael Aguilar developed the project, at first, as a feature, says Deadline. Looks like it's best suited for the small screen. Nakata may direct an episode or two.

It's been an eventful week for Zach Galifianakis. First, it was announced that he'd host Saturday Night Live next month, and now there's word that he's signed on for yet another project.
The Hangover co-star became the hottest bearded fat actor in Hollywood since the late William Conrad this past summer, lining up a handful of new comedies, all of them fairly well loaded with significant amounts of talent. That includes next summer's Hangover sequel, currently scheduled for Memorial Day.
Producer Michael Aguilar tells Shock Till You Drop that he has secured Galifianakis for Miracle Workers, described as "a supernatural buddy comedy about two friends who decide to pose as exorcists. The two think they've got a good thing going until they're faced with a real menace." That's not the worst idea I've heard, but I could just as easily see it blowing hard.

Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz, who wrote "Thor" for Marvel, have come aboard to pen "Damn Nation," a futuristic vampire project lurking at Paramount.
Dark Horse Entertainment's Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg are producing the adaptation, which is based on a comic by Andrew Cosby and art by Jason Alexander (not the "Seinfeld" actor). Michael Aguilar and Dean Georgaris are also producing.
Set in a U.S. evacuated after an attack from "inhuman nocturnal predators," the comic tells the tale of the survivors after the government has been forced to relocate to London while scientists search for a solution.
Cosby and his Boom! Studios partner Ross Richie are exec producing.
In addition to "Thor," the Wme- and Principato/Young-repped Miller and Stentz are writer-producers on "Fringe," the supernatural Fox series created by J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. They also wrote Fox's "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Since Paramount Pictures decided to develop "Area 51", an adaptation of video game with the same title, the filmmakers have tried to keep the details under wraps. Recently, Latino Review obtained a copy of some pages of director Oren Peli's short script.
[Spoiler Alert!] The film begins with a guy, named Chris, testing out his brand new handycam. He has an interest in extra terrestrials subjects, while his friends, Paul and Rob, are skeptical. The next day, the three travel to Vegas where they hope to get video evidence that aliens exist.
Chris has arranged a meeting with a former Area 51 employee named Novak who, while working there, heard rumblings of government cooperation on human/alien experiments in exchange for alien technology. Novak knows the security measures of the compound inside and out, but never got any proof of the extraterrestrial rumors. Later, the gang discovers more about the military...

Rob Corddry and Lake Bell are in final negotiations to star opposite Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher in the Tom Vaughn-helmed comedy What Happens in Vegas ... for 20th Century Fox.
Penned by Dana Fox, the story is set in motion following a night of debauchery in Vegas when two strangers (Diaz, Kutcher) discover they have gotten married and one of them wins a huge jackpot with the other's quarter. In trying to determine the rightful beneficiary of the winnings, the duo embarks on a series of plots to undermine the other, falling in love along the way.
Corddry is set to play Hater, an attorney and the best friend of Kutcher's character who richly deserves his nickname. In fact, he's a world-class misanthrope with an acerbic edge. Bell will play the best friend of Diaz's character.
Dean Georgaris is producing through his Penn Station banner alongside Mosaic's Michael Aguilar.
Emma Watts is overseeing for the studio.
