When satanic cults and demons get out of control, who you gonna call? Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi, of course! Evil Season 4 premieres on Paramount+ on Thursday, May 23, and it will be one hell of a finale for the supernatural procedural with outrageous self-aware humor, sinister villains running amok, and character chemistry that brings it all together.
We had the pleasure of discussing the fourth and final season of Evil with Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi, whose journey of uncovering the mysteries of insidious forces behind the veil of reality end with the conclusion of a 14-episode finale. While Evil Season 4 is the show’s last hoorah on Paramount+, Evil could get picked up by another streamer, as several of the show’s stars are game to continue the story. I hope that’s the case after binging four seasons to prepare for this interview.

We may not be ready to say goodbye to Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) and her friends, but we don’t have a choice.
Paramount+ has confirmed the upcoming fourth season of Evil will be its last.
The only good news from the announcement is that four additional episodes have been ordered to help bring the series to a close.
Many shows don’t get endings, but Evil has been one of those shows that beat the odds.
The procedural premiered on CBS in September 2019 and scored a renewal quickly despite soft on-air viewership.
Because the show had such a robust digital footprint, it was moved to Paramount+ beginning with its second season, where it will remain through its fourth and final season.
It sounds like Paramount+ canceled Evil

The one-minute teaser for the fourth and confirmed final season of Paramount+’s Evil may be short on clips but still manages to capture the series’ tone. At one point, Ben asks, “Doesn’t it seem like these assignments are getting weirder?” and Kristen replies, “I can’t even tell anymore.”
Paramount+’s teaser trailer’s release was accompanied by the news that the final season will premiere in May. The streamer also announced they’ve ordered four bonus episodes that will wrap up the series. The bonus episodes will begin production soon in New York.

“Evil” is wrapping up filming on Season 4 earlier than anticipated. After the set faced disruptions by picketing Writers Guild members on Friday, the Paramount+ series is now seeing a cast member take a leave of absence due to a personal family matter. As a result, production has wrapped early on the next season.
A source close to the series would only confirm that the early end to filming was a result of the unnamed actor’s temporary exit from the show. However, no filming occurred on Friday, as Writers Guild members on strike demonstrated near the production.
The fourth season of “Evil” was commissioned to include 10 episodes. It remains unclear whether the early end to production will impact those plans.

This article contains Evil spoilers through season 3 episode 4.
Michelle and Robert King’s supernatural series Evil sped through a bumpy bypass for the most thrilling ride of season 3 in “The Demon of the Road.” The episode sideswiped the “ghost highway” urban myth, cloud-chasing, drone-stalking, car-hacking, and both demonic and divine intervention. The experience adds street cred to the investigative team, Father David Acosta (Mike Colter), Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi), and Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), the forensic psychologist who usually sees her therapist after periods of road rage.
During the rushed proceedings, Dr. Boggs (Kurt Fuller) is counseling a familiar, but very different kind of subject. He is assessing Sister Andrea (Andrea Martin), who was recently witnessed talking to unseen entities, which the church believes may be a sign of dementia. The expert psychiatric evaluator reads other signs in the righteously rebellious patient assigned to him. Sister Andrea may be a true mystic.

Evil‘s David Acosta has been a priest for all of, what, five minutes? And he’s already bored of the monotony of parish life: the ho-hum confessions, the poorly attended 6 am Masses, the other priests slurping soup at dinner. How lucky for him, then, when The Entity — the super-secret Vatican group that offers “information and assistance” when needed — approaches him to join their covert ranks.
But does he sign up? And what’s this about someone named Visiting Jack? Read on for the highlights of “The Demon of Memes.”

Evil Season 3 Episode 1
Evil’s season 3 opener, “The Demon of Death,” faces the same problem which hung over the second season: a cliff-hanging, game-changing event occurs, and the characters have to deal with the consequences. Last season started in the aftermath of a killing; this one picks up the pieces of broken vows. Or were they?
Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), who is married, confessed she got away with murder to the newly ordained priest, Father David Acosta (Mike Colter). This should have ended the will-they-won’t-they argument raging under the two characters. Evil season 3 has it both ways. The first scene continues where the finale left off, and gives into temptation. It is a powerful opening, sexually charged and regretful, yet always maintaining an ambiance of ominous mystery. Colter and Herbers get truly lost in the moments, both the longing and the lingering doubts...

One of the consistent strengths of “Evil” has been its constant acknowledgment that faith exists in an untold number of forms. Whether taken in relation to a codified religion, a belief in the scientific principles, an outright rejection of both, or none of the above, this is a show with clergy collars and therapist couches that isn’t only confined to one or the other.
Enter Season 3, where the show ventures further into the idea that faith also applies to who becomes worthy of trust and allegiance. Even with a few extra words that don’t have to be slipped by Standards and Practices, the core “Evil” mission remains the same. The wonder trio of psychologist Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), newly ordained priest and accomplished Church assessor David Acosta (Mike Colter), and resident tech expert scientist Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) are still investigating instances of the unusual at the request of local Catholic officials.

Michelle and Robert King created Evil. What an epitaph that will some day make. Future generations will look back at Paramount+’s savior series with accusatory looks. As their occult science procedural creation moves into season 3, it appears the evil Kings won’t even get a day of rest. The show’s newly ordained priest couldn’t make it through his first sanctified day without succumbing to temptation, and his trained skeptics are enablers. This is why bad things happen to good people. It’s the Kings’ fault. They brought Evil into the world.
Evil follows Father David Acosta (Mike Colter), Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi), a team of spiritual investigators who scrutinize paranormal occurrences to determine if they are miraculous, diabolical, or the result of faulty plumbing. They work for the Catholic Church, and answer to a wide range of higher powers.

In the Season 2 finale of Paramount+’s Evil, Katja Herbers‘ Kristen confessed to newly ordained priest David (Mike Colters) what viewers had known for quite some time: that she’d murdered serial killer Orson LeRoux and gotten away with it. (Read a recap.) Here, TVLine Dream Emmy nominee Herbers and director Alethea Jones break down Kristen’s catharsis and how it morphed into something entirely different when she and David kissed for the first time immediately after the confession.
Katja Herbers | As any actor, or probably any person, to have to do this, you draw from your absolute worst. How did you sound?...

“There’s a way Kristen and David can have their cake and eat it, too,” Katja Herbers teases of her and Mike Colter’s characters in Evil Season 3 following that kiss. The Season 2 finale ended with Kristen Bouchard going to the newly ordained David Acosta and confessing to the murder of serial killer Orson LeRoux (Darren Pettie), who had been a threat to her family. After that intimate moment came another, with the two sharing a kiss. But he’s a priest, and she’s married. “I really love that scene. I think they really do love each other and there’s nobody else who knows this and he accepted her in her darkest moment, with all her ugliness and her sins laid bare,” Herbers tells TV Insider. “That transitioned into the kiss, [which] I thought was very beautiful.” However, they’re now facing the problem of “now what?” she continues.

It seems no room is big enough to accommodate both Father David Acosta and Leland Townsend. One is a newly ordained priest who has looked temptation in the eye and blinked, several times. The other is a satanic exposure consultant who never met a sin he wouldn’t commit. As Paramount+’s Evil season 3 looms ever closer, actors Mike Colter and Michael Emerson maintain a healthy distance.
The psychological suspense drama created by Robert and Michelle King explores many diabolical influences on society, but Colter’s Father David is the committed protector of truth in faith. He is the one who assembled a team to perform triage on indeterminate wounds: Forensic psychologist Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), and Ben “the magnificent” Shakir (Aasif Mandvi), who present alternative explanations for extraordinary occurrences.

“Evil” is so much more than its one-word title suggests, but it almost defies description. It’s a creepy-as-hell, addictive blend of supernatural horror, character study, outrageous humor and subversive satire, with some raunchiness and profanity thrown in, presented with the trademark acerbic wit that we’ve come to expect from top-of-their-game hubby and wife creators Robert King and Michelle King.

The genre-bending drama is led by Katja Herbers as the skeptical Dr. Kristen Bouchard, Mike Colter as priest-in-training David Acosta and Aasif Mandvi as sardonic every-man Ben Shakir, who examine the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion. The dysfunctional trio investigate the Catholic Church’s backlog of unexplained mysteries, including supposed miracles, demonic possessions and hauntings. Their job is to assess if there is a logical explanation or if something truly supernatural is at work, often coming up against the devious Dr.

The Catholic Church’s investigative trinity of the anti-procedural, Evil, is coming to redeem Paramount+ for a third season beginning June 12. Gathered together by now-newly-ordained priest, Father David Acosta (Mike Colter), they look for ungodly things like demonic possessions, false prophets, and internet soul snatching. Forensic psychologist Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) and jack-of-all-trades master craftsman Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) are the house skeptics.
Created by Robert and Michelle King, Evil examines mysteries, miracles and malevolent forces, blurring lines between science and religion, as well as the origins of sin on a more human level. Ben has the practical knowledge. He can hack into mainframes, calculate Pythagorean theorems, and check rotten foundations with equal ease, in order to rule out some kind of environmental hazard which is causing a spiritual vision. Just as George Banks, Mary Poppins’ bowler-hatted boss sang nearly 60 years ago, bankers demand “precision” when they go to work. Without “order” there’s a danger of “chaos and moral disintegration … and a ghastly mess.” Well sung, given that the world today faces existential “disorder” as media and entertainment bank-ers wind their way to the 75th Cannes Film Festival.
The past 15 years have already thrown outsized curve balls of their own at bankers and second-tier financiers, including the financial crisis of 2008-09, when the Masters of the Universe suffered from a Marvel-scale crisis — leading to a plethora of bank media and entertainment loan books being closed — and giving rise to a host of second tier financing operations. Fast forward to March 2020, even before the Covid-19 pandemic shook the globe, and the lending industry saw a range of key players exit the independent sector. Leland Townsend (Michael Emerson) should probably be worried (and keep all knives hidden): Sister Andrea (Andrea Martin) isn’t going anywhere. Martin, who recurred in Evil Season 2, has been upped to series regular, according to TVLine. Sister Andrea has been advising David Acosta (Mike Colter), messing with the evil Leland, and also is part of the ongoing storyline involving the sigil map. She also stabbed a Bat-Devil with a cross in the Season 2 finale. And given her role as an advisor for David, we can’t help but wonder how she might react after she finds out about his and Kristen’s (Katja Herbers) kiss, which took place after he was ordained and he heard her confession about a murder. For nearly two full seasons, Evil fans couldn’t help but wonder if the CBS-turned-Paramount+ drama would ever “go there” with psychologist Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) and priest-in-training David Acosta (Mike Colter). Sure, the two have chemistry, but she’s married and he went through with his ordination. It seemed less and less likely… until the final scene of the second season. In back-to-back intimate moments, Kristen confessed to murdering serial killer LeRoux, then she and David kissed. “That was probably the last choice we made in the writers’ room,” co-creator Robert King told TV Insider. “There were two things at play. One was the intimacy of the confession and the relief that Kristen feels, a natural sense of kind of falling into his body and being held. And I think our characters have a lot of difficulty differentiating between — and a lot of people have a lot...

Leland (Michael Emerson) does all the voices, from the venerated holy relics of The Exorcist to Laraine Newman’s Shirley Temple in Saturday Night Live’s takeoff on it. He tosses priests across rooms with one hand tied to a bedpost. He sweats, swears and pukes vile, living, inky blackness from the bowels of hell. He looks lost and defeated, beaten, and busted. But when it’s all over, Leland gives a knowing wink to a suspicious David Acosta (Mike Colter), and bitches about the new kids on the block and those awful fashions. Satanism is not a flavor of the week, at least not this week.

What was she thinking? Why did she do that? Does she really say that? You will find yourself asking these and other questions about Dr. Kristen Brouchard (Katja Herbers) on Evil season 2. Episode 8, “B Is for Brain.” The episode is about a machine at the center of a Cornell University study. It measures and records everything going on in someone’s mind when they are too zonked out to block things. But Kristen has too many secrets, and far too much on her mind to let an Emf-on-steroids machine take notes, and it might be driving her insane.
It’s not that we don’t get it. As a matter of fact, I was surprised the people in line behind Kristen didn’t applaud when she went upside the head of a grocery checkout line cutter. Kristen is repressing something almost every minute of every day.

Not a word has been spoken within the walls of the monastery of St. Thomas in 130 years, reads a sign just inside the gate. The team is met by Father Winston, who hands each of the team a vintage magic slate paper to communicate with, one from Star Trek, another from Casper the Friendly Ghost and the third of a classic Robin Hood.

We stumble right into the action on Evil season 2, episode 5, “Z Is for Zombie.” Grainy film footage captures tattered young people fleeing slow-moving zombies, the kind which annoy the younger generation of the genre’s fans. Kristen’s (Katja Herbers) daughter Lila (Skylar Gray) is under the covers sharing a virtual movie night with her friend Alex who is watching next door, and has no idea the life she is about to reanimate, but the imaginary fiend leaves blood on her shoe.
The Pop-Up Book of Terrifying Things Mmxxi, which opens each episode, usually never gets past the first pop-up, in this case “The Hairbrained Butcher,” but we can imagine their chapter on Zombies will be filled with useful tidbits on living dead things. The book actually makes an appearance in the episode, as it was probably used for quick reference. The...

Evil Season 2 Episode 4
Evil season 2, episode 4, “E Is for Elevator,” stops between floors to squeeze in an urban legend. The team is called in on a job outside their scope, an internet game. It has no demonic ties except for a pentagram drawn on the floor of a player. With that as the only spiritual tie, David Acosta (Mike Colter) goes off to contemplate the mysteries of his superiors’ faith in Leland Townshend (Michael Emerson), while Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) go pushing buttons.
The family who calls in the team admits there is no satanic connection, but the police have already written them off, and tagged their son a runaway. The whole thing would have been passed on if it weren’t for the game. This gives the episode a pass for an all-ages admission, and lets the children play.
