- Leading Italian cinematographer who worked with most of the top directors in his country from Rosselini and Fellini to De Santis. Began as assistant cameraman in silent films at the age of fourteen. Was a newsreel cameraman for Instituto Luce before switching to feature films in the early 1930's.
