Elvis Presley was one of the biggest musicians and actors in the ‘50s and ‘60s. Known as the King of Rock and Roll, the musician was known for his often imitated style and s*xually provocative songs that were revolutionary at the time. He was one of the biggest pop-cultural phenomena in Hollywood and is revered even today. He was portrayed by Austin Butler and Jacob Elordi in two different films in the last two years.
Though he is rumored to have multiple affairs, Presley only married once in his life. The star musician met Priscilla Presley when he was stationed in West Germany during his military service. Presley has been known to have many courtships even after his marriage. His bodyguard during his tours mentioned that he preferred the women he dated not to have one specific quality that would turn him off.

Beyoncé recently sampled Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” in her new track “Ya Ya.” Sinatra revealed she once begged an icon from a different medium to use that song. He made Sinatra’s dream come true, but in the process, he created a scene with a troubling undercurrent.
Nancy Sinatra wanted ‘These Boots Are Made for Walkin” in a famous movie
Sinatra’s cover of Cher’s “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)” was used quite literally in a sequence in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill. During a 2004 interview with Hot Press, Sinatra discussed this scene. “I’m a huge Tarantino fan, so him choosing me over Sonny & Cher was very humbling,” she opined. “I had a similar experience when a year before Full Metal Jacket came out I got word that Stanley Kubrick wanted ‘Boots’ for the soundtrack. Beyoncé is never too shy to pay homage to the past and she set the internet ablaze when she recently sampled Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’.” When Sinatra explained the song, Queen B’s decision to sample it made so much sense. In a way, “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” paved the way for some of Beyoncé’s best songs.
Nancy Sinatra said ‘These Boots Are Made for Walkin” is perfect for certain women
During a 2004 interview with Hot Press, Sinatra discussed the impact music had one her life. “The music is the thread all the way through,” she said. “Classical piano for 12 years and teaching 40 girls in school how to sing in four-part harmony were two of my early passions. From the start of Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé makes it clear this ain’t your typical country album. Opening epic “Ameriican Requiem” is part gospel, part-Queen, part-Buffalo Springfield as the artist lays out both her intentions and lineage. “Used to say I spoke ‘Too country’/And the rejection came, said I wasn’t ‘country ‘nough’/Said I wouldn’t saddle up/But if that ain’t country, tell me what is?” she sings from the gut, after listing off her bona fide country credentials.

John Lennon was a musical genius, but he said plenty of ridiculous things, such as that he wrote the first feminist song. No, he didn’t. More than that, it’s highly dubious that the song in question even counts as a feminist song because of its offensive lyrics.
John Lennon wrote the most offensive feminist song ever
The book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono features an interview from 1980. In it, John explained the title of his most controversial solo song: “Woman Is the N***** of the World.” “That’s something Yoko said in 1968 in an interview,” he said. “It was just such a powerful statement, a few years later I turned it into a song. So it’s her title and my song.

Elvis Presley‘s “Bossa Nova Baby” is one of his more well-remembered 1960s hits, but was the end of Elvis’ peak era. A somewhat similar Frank Sinatra song blew it out of the water. One of the writers of “Bossa Nova Baby” wasn’t a huge Elvis fan at first.
Elvis Presley’s ‘Bossa Nova Baby’ started a bad 5 year stretch for Elvis
Elvis produced more hits than nearly every other artist who ever lived. However, his career hit a big slump that lasted five-and-a-half years. According to The Billboard Book of Number 1 Hits, “Bossa Nova Baby” reached the top 10 near the end of 1963. Between then and 1969, Elvis didn’t have a single top 10 hit, with the exception of a cover of Darrell Glenn’s “Crying in the Chapel.”
That was a dark period for Elvis. While he produced some classics during that time period, such as “Viva Las Vegas” and “How Great Thou Art,...

NCIS returns for Season 21 this winter but without former star David McCallum.
He won’t be featured as a cast member for the first time in more than 20 years.
While he did scale back his appearances in recent seasons, this situation is much different.
David McCallum played Chief Medical Examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard and the supervisor for Dr. Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen).
Ducky eventually relinquished his position to let Palmer have his shot, and Palmer has continued to be the doctor that the team leans on.
It was then that Ducky became the NCIS historian, allowing him to help on cases from time to time.
What happened to David McCallum from NCIS?
Actor David McCallum died in September of 2023. He was 90 years old and passed away from natural causes.
Had the Hollywood strikes not happened, David may have appeared in a new episode for the upcoming season.

Linnea Quigley has more than earned her spot as a preeminent scream queen. In addition to genre classics like The Return of the Living Dead, Silent Night, Deadly Night, and Night of the Demons, the actress was so prolific throughout the ’80s and ’90s that some of her micro-budget B-movies are still being discovered to this day. Scream Queen is, in fact, the second “lost” Quigley film unearthed by Visual Vengeance, following Heartland of Darkness.
25 years after its inception, Scream Queen is reaching viewers on Blu-ray. The bulk of the flick was shot on S-vhs in less than a week in early 1998 with the rest being piecemealed together on weekends. Post-production was finally completed in 2002, after which it received a blink-and-you-miss-it VHS release. A DVD release was planned in 2012 but fell through at the last minute due to the distributor’s bankruptcy.

If there is something positive about the existence of streaming platforms in recent times, it's the explosion of quality television series that we haven't experienced for several decades. There is something for everyone, even for TV sceptics who are not easily convinced to step out of the cinema or from what they concern as a serious screening content. Almost four years ago, during the Mastercard event at the Venice Film Festival, Brian de Palma confessed that he was hooked to the comedy-drama series “Dead To Me” starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, admitting that he was watching television more than ever before due to a big improvement in quality of productions. Liz Feldman wasn't in the audience, but I was, glad to hear that such a legend and I are sharing the same passion for the show.

Nancy Sinatra’s former home in Beverly Hills has just sold for $3 million, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The groovy “These Boots Were Made for Walkin'” singer lived in the mod midcentury residence in the late 1960s and filmed part of the music video for her 1967 song “I Gotta Get Outta This Town” there.
Photos of Sinatra taken in the house when she lived there show her penchant for a yellow color scheme as well as the singer standing behind the four-bedroom home’s martini bar. She was also photographed on a powder blue bed with her collection of boots.
The house was largely preserved by its longtime owner Orly Frank and by Frank’s parents. The seller, as THR reported exclusively, listed the house for $2.95 million on Oct. 3. “It’s been my family home for 50 years,” said Frank, adding that, “My mom just loved that house so much and so did my dad.

Singer Travis Birds is one of the most recognizable and promising voices on the Spanish music scene. Self-taught, Birds began playing and composing at the age 19 when she was struck by a deep existential crisis, what she now calls “my tunnel without light.”
Her first album came about through a combination of crowdfunding, word-of-mouth buzz and a series of happy, chance encounters, laying the groundwork for her breakthrough international success with her second album Coyotes, whose title song was picked for the soundtrack of hit Spanish series El embarcadero (The Red Pier) from Money Heist creator Alex Pina.
Her single 19 dias y 500 noches [19 days and 500 nights] a cover of the famous ballad by legendary 20th-century Spanish singer-songwriter Joaquim Sabina, part of an album of Sabina covers, topped the Spanish charts, exceeding Birds’ wildest expectations.
Her stage name, Travis, is a tip of the hat to Robert De Niro’s character, Travis Bickle in Matin Scorcese’s Taxi Driver.

Hollywood is mourning Suzanne Somers, star of sitcoms “Three’s Company” and “Step by Step,” who died Sunday after a long battle with breast cancer. The actor would have celebrated her 77th birthday on Monday, Oct. 16.
Somers was known for her roles as bubbly “dumb blonde” Chrissy Snow in “Three’s Company” and single mom Carol Foster Lambert in “Step by Step.” Somers left “Three’s Company” in 1980 when her request that she be paid the same as her male co-star, John Ritter, was denied. After the end of “Step by Step” in 1998, Somers transitioned to a career in health and beauty, becoming the national spokeswoman for exercise device the ThighMaster. Over time, she built a fitness empire from TV infomercials and an expansion into e-commerce. She also made an appearance in 2015 on Season 20 of “Dancing with the Stars.”
Fran Drescher, Kathy Griffin and Barry Manilow are among those who have paid tribute to Somers.

Quentin Tarantino had a single epic film in mind when he set out to create what became Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and its follow-up.
The lead character of the Bride originated in conversations between Tarantino and star Uma Thurman during their first collaboration in 1993. “I came up with the idea of doing Kill Bill on the set of Pulp Fiction with Uma,” Tarantino told The Hollywood Reporter in 2003. “‘Bang Bang’ set to Uma for the opening credits was in my mind [back then],” the director said of using Cher’s song “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)” to open the film, although he later opted for the Nancy Sinatra cover.

Two decades ago, :a[Quentin Tarantino]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/features/quentin-tarantino-movies-ranked/' target='blank' rel='noreferrer noopener'} unfolded an odyssey. In the six years since :a[Jackie Brown]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/features/jackie-brown-original-empire-feature/' target='blank' rel='noreferrer noopener'} hit the screen, the filmmaker best known for his devotion to dialogue had been working on something completely different – a four-hour action epic, swirling his love of old kung fu movies, revenge westerns, anime flicks, and his ongoing fascination with pop cultural ephemera into his most experimental and adrenaline-pumping work. And it all came under a title that wasn’t just a neat name, but a directive – its own two-word narrative pitch: Kill Bill.
With his :a[Pulp Fiction]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/pulp-fiction-review/' target='_blank' rel='noreferrer noopener'} star Uma Thurman, Tarantino went big – so big that the studio demand his...

The former Beverly Hills home of singer Nancy Sinatra — where she was once photographed with some of her iconic made-for-walkin’ boots — is hitting the market for $2.95 million. Much of the midcentury property remains the way it was when Sinatra owned the home in the 1960s.
“It’s been my family home for 50 years,” says Orly Frank, the home’s current owner, whose parents Abraham and Renee Frank purchased the home from TV and film director Sobey Martin (Four Nights of the Full Moon, Lost in Space), who had himself acquired it from Sinatra. “He lived in it very briefly,” continues Frank, who recalls that she was in high school when her parents moved in to the house.
Over the years, according to Frank, “Nancy Sinatra stayed in touch with my family. She came up and visited, and she sent some handwritten notes to my parents. She loved the house.”

“These boots are made for walkin’, and that’s just what they’ll do. One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you,” sang Nancy Sinatra in one of her famous songs, signifying how much a shoe can lift the spirit of a woman with a broken heart.
There are few other accessories that can communicate a woman’s identity like shoes. And one of the masters of their design is Maison René Caovilla (available online at Neiman Marcus and Net-a-Porter), which over its nearly nine-decade history has designed shoes that are true works of art and excellence. For creating his shoe empire, its founder, René Fernando Caovilla, was bestowed the title Emeritus Cavaliere del Lavoro — the Order of Merit for Labor — by former president of Italy Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.

Some of the most interesting celebrity relationships were one-sided. For example, Nancy Sinatra fell in love with Elvis Presley while they made a movie together. Ultimately, Sinatra had multiple reasons why she felt she and Elvis couldn’t become a couple. She played an important role in Priscilla Presley’s life anyway.
Why Nancy Sinatra compared Elvis Presley to Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe
During a 2004 interview with Hot Press, Sinatra discussed her memories of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. “Elvis Presley was everything you could imagine that he was — just the warmth of the man was enough to melt your heart,” she said. “He’s one of only three people I’ve ever met who have this physical aura around them.
“One was my father, which is how I knew to recognize it elsewhere,” she said. “The second was Marilyn Monroe — she was incredible! — and the third Elvis.

Nancy Sinatra covering The Beatles‘ “Something” is probably the single most 1960s thing imaginable. However, Sinatra didn’t finish and release her cover until 2013. Sadly, the “Sugar Town” singer did not have much to say about George Harrison, the sole composer of “Something.”
Nancy Sinatra felt 2013 was about time she put out a cover of The Beatles’ ‘Something’
Sinatra’s 2013 album Shifting Gears features covers of The Beatles’ “Something,” Jimmy Webb’s “MacArthur Park,” and other classic songs from her vaults. During a 2013 interview with Vice, Sinatra discussed why she didn’t finish recording those songs for years. “Well, they didn’t really fit what I was doing for most of my career, you know?” she said. “The truth is I didn’t want them to just die in the vault, I wanted them to get out and get some fresh air and be heard by my fans.

While many covers of The Beatles‘ songs are bland regurgitations, Nancy Sinatra’s version of The Beatles’ “Day Tripper” is almost thought-provoking. Sinatra revealed she wanted her rendition of the tune to sound “girly.” Her cover was part of a larger trend on her debut album.
Nancy Sinatra covered The Beatles’ ‘Day Tripper’ and ‘Run for Your Life’ for her debut
The Beatles’ “Day Tripper” is a song where the Fab Four gleefully take down a girl for being a tease. It’s a bit on the misogynistic side, though it’s far from the most offensive song from The Beatles or their contemporaries. Sinatra covered “Day Tripper” and flipped the genders so she’s taking a man down. It’s a cheeky, empowering song that listeners might expect from the singer behind such hits as “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” and “How Does That Grab You, Darlin’?”

Slayyyter is sitting on a couch in Room 49 of the historic Chateau Marmont hotel in West Hollywood. She’s bare-faced, barefoot, and sporting a silky, off-white nightgown as she takes sips of her iced coffee. “I feel like if you die here, you’re immortalized in Hollywood culture,” she muses. Last night’s empty bottles of Dom Pérignon and a half-eaten cake sit on the kitchen counter. It’s the morning of her 27th birthday.

(Welcome to Did They Get It Right?, a series where we look at Oscars categories from yesteryear and examine whether the Academy's winners stand the test of time.)
Best Original Song is such an odd category. On the Academy Awards broadcast, it is the one that gets the most airtime, as it is typical to perform all five of the nominated tunes during the show. While this is technically meant to showcase the nominees, it is really an excuse to break up what would be a fairly monotonous, long awards show.
However, most of the songs nominated for Best Original Song aren't all that interesting. A lot of the time, these tunes aren't integral to the film itself in the slightest, and they are simply musical wallpaper to play over the end credits of a movie as you file out of the theater. This is also the category most susceptible...

Roger Ebert said one of Elvis Presley’s movies was “pleasant, kind, polite, sweet, and noble.” Ebert still criticized the movie. The movie produced a pair of hit singles in the United States but it’s forgotten today.
For the most part, Elvis Presley‘s movies have such a bad reputation that they’re almost an instant punchline. Roger Ebert said one of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll‘s films did a terrible job capturing the late 1960s. Regardless, the movie still produced a hit soundtrack.

The Beatles‘ songs have been covered by so many artists that most of the covers got lost in the shuffle. Nancy Sinatra’s version of The Beatles’ “Run for Your Life” is one the most perplexing tunes in her catalog. After listening to it, it’s impossible not to have a lot of deep, uncomfortable thoughts.
Is Nancy Sinatra’s cover of The Beatles’ ‘Run for Your Life’ a feminist song?
The Beatles’ “Run for Your Life” is undoubtedly the most misogynistic song they ever released. In it, John sings that if his “little girl” cheats on him, he will try to murder her. I have no idea how that came across in 1965 but today, that lyric is unthinkably brutal.
Sinatra recorded the tune for her album Boots — the same record that includes the early feminist hit “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’.” How should audiences understand Sinatra’s decision...

If you’re a fan of soccer – or, in most of the world, a fan of the game they know as football – you probably recall some details from this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament held in Australia and New Zealand. If you’re a follower of the Spanish women’s team, for instance, you no doubt remember that they beat England to win the tournament; if you root for the U.S. team, you probably remember (but want to forget) that they barely made it out of the first round and were eliminated in the 16th, becoming the first defending champion not to make the semi-finals.
But fan or not, you likely know nothing at all about the 1971 Campeonato de Fútbol Femeni, known unofficially as the 1971’s Women’s World Cup. At the beginning of “Copa 71,” a documentary about the tournament that screened Thursday on the...

Based on Priscilla Presley’s memoir, the film shows how a naive schoolgirl became trapped behind the gates of Graceland in a bizarrely co-dependent relationship
Child bride, infant sacrifice, bobbysoxer concubine: Priscilla Presley, wife of Elvis, is all these in Sofia Coppola’s eerily gripping, queasily claustrophobic portrait of marital loneliness, trapped behind the kitschy prison gates of Graceland while the King is away on tour, or shooting movies with glamorous worldly female co-stars and a creepily subservient male entourage. Priscilla becomes Memphis’s very own Lady Diana, with Ann-Margret or Nancy Sinatra in the Camilla Parker-Bowles role.
The film is based on Elvis and Me, Priscilla’s 1985 memoir of the marriage, and demonstrates Coppola’s characteristically sisterly and non-judgmental intimacy with her heroine. The details, the atmosphere of Priscilla’s bizarre married life, its stretches of boredom and silence; all seem very real. As an insider account, this is...

Outwardly, the marriage of Elvis Presley and his wife Priscilla appeared picture-perfect. The couple was together for eight years before tying the knot in 1967. However, behind closed doors, Elvis and Priscilla faced difficulties. Many of these were related to Elvis’ relationship with his friends and members of the Memphis Mafia. One of Elvis closest friends, Joe Esposito, admits this was one of the key reasons his marriage to Priscilla broke down: “We weren’t good boys.”

Depeche Mode have always danced with death. Listen to, say, 1990’s “Enjoy the Silence” and you’ll detect a dark, simmering nihilism eager to remind us that we all die eventually. Even their most lustful tracks are accompanied by an urgency that borders on frantic, as though time might run out before the chance for one last bonk.
Memento Mori, the band’s 15th album, is unique because the inevitable has, in fact, happened – only much sooner than anyone could have predicted. The sudden death of keyboardist Andrew Fletcher, aged 60, last year means the band are now a duo. Dave Gahan and Martin Gore have been left to process the stark reality of what has always captivated their music.
The grief on the record is deeply felt, but perhaps more striking is its sense of resolve. “Soul With Me” is a magnificent ode to ageing: “I see the beauty/ As...

Filmmaker Joanelle Romero has one huge regret about a moment she shared with Elvis Presley‘s daughter Lisa Marie Presley before her death.
“I have 41 years sober and I didn’t say anything to her [about it],” Romero told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “Even before she passed, I didn’t say anything to her.” Romero viewed Elvis alongside Presley, writer/director Baz Luhrmann and others.
“There were too many people there and it could have scared her off,” she reflected. But added, “It wasn’t the right environment. But I learned a lesson. I will never do that again.”
