Jack Axelrod, the actor who played the role of Victor Jerome on General Hospital, has died. He was 93.
Multiple reports indicate that Axelrod died on Nov. 28 of natural causes in Los Angeles.
Axelrod was featured on the ABC soap for 40 episodes between 1987 and 1989. He had previously made guest appearances in Kojak (1977), Hill Street Blues (1984), Dallas (1983), The Judge (1986), Dynasty (1987), Outlaws (1987) and Night Court (1989).
“I had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with him in his last years, as he had no immediate family,” representative Jennifer Garland said in a statement to EW. “We spent much time outdoors, where Jack loved to sketch, read news articles, and recite Shakespearean sonnets.”
Following his stint on General Hospital, Axelrod went on to play Arnie Zimmer on three episodes of Knots Landing between 1989 and 1990. Guest appearances would follow on shows like Murphy Brown (1992), Everybody Loves Raymond (1999), Boys Meets World (1999), Good vs Evil (1999), Jack & Jill...

Sarah Michelle Gellar is glad that NBC passed on a TV series based on her 1999 film “Cruel Intentions.”
The actress discussed the reboot during a recent interview with The New York Times. The pilot was ordered in February 2016, but the network had passed on the series by October of the same year. Gellar would have reprised her iconic role as the manipulative Kathryn Merteuil.
But, ultimately, she agreed that the series wasn’t a fit for network television.
“Nothing against NBC, but ‘Cruel Intentions’ is straight streaming,” she said. “On the first day, I was like, ‘This isn’t working.’ It’s just not a network show. And if it is a network show, it’s not my ‘Cruel Intentions.’ So, I was actually grateful.”

CBS' "Supergirl" pilot has cast a familiar name to play a familiar character from elsewhere in the comics Super-universe, hiring "Ally McBeal" and "Brothers & Sisters" alum Calista Flockhart to play Cat Grant. Introduced into Superman comics in the '80s, Cat was a sexpot reporter at the Daily Planet and romantic rival of Lois Lane's for Clark Kent's affections. On TV, she's previously been played by Tracy Scoggins in "Lois & Clark," and by Keri Lynn Pratt on "Smallville." The character is getting a bit of a reinvention here, described by Warner Bros. as "A self-made media magnate and founder of CatCo, Cat Grant started her career as a reporter and has built her company into a global powerhouse. Kara (series star Melissa Benoist) works at CatCo as her assistant." Thoughts?...

Deb Dorfman (Sara Rue) is a sweet, lovable young woman with a tendency to let everyone in her life take advantage of her. She works as an accountant for her spoiled brother Daniel (Jonathan Chase), but these days, she spends most of her work day cleaning up her brother's messes and covering his infidelities from Daniel's wife Leeann (Keri Lynn Pratt). Deb's father Burt (Elliott Gould) is still mourning the death of Deb's mother and can't eat a proper meal much less care for himself, so Deb has to regularly check in on him. As if all of these problems weren't enough, Deb's longtime crush Jay (Johann Urb), a foreign correspondent, has to leave town on a work assignment right after moving into a new apartment. Hoping to seal the deal with Jay, Deb volunteers to stay at his apartment while he is gone, unpack his boxes, and look after his cat.

Title: Dorfman in Love Director: Bradley Leong Starring: Sara Rue, Elliott Gould, Jonathan Chase, Johann Urb, Haaz Sleiman, Keri Lynn Pratt, Sophie Monk, Hayley Marie Norman, Kelen Coleman, Scott Wilson Saddled with a terrible, clunky title and a programmatic narrative that represents a fairly unpersuasive blend of the familiar and contrived, Los Angeles-set indie romantic comedy “Dorfman in Love” connects most fitfully as a vehicle for the charms of star Sara Rue. Penned by Wendy Kout and directed by Bradley Leong, the big-hearted movie is a sort of “Bridget Jones’s Diary” by way of “(500) Days of Summer,” though without the apexes of cleverness and flair found in those films. It’s charming enough [ Read More ]

Title: The Trouble with the Truth Director: Jim Hemphill Starring: John Shea, Lea Thompson, Danielle Harris, Keri Lynn Pratt A spare but winning romantic drama that taps into the same talky, intellectually stimulating vein as Richard Linklater’s “Sunrise”/”Sunset” collaborations with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, “The Trouble with the Truth” is cinematic catnip for anyone who fancies themselves a student of the human condition. Written and directed by Jim Hemphill, this intimate bauble serves as a great showcase for actors Lea Thompson and John Shea, and a reminder that human desire doesn’t expire at 35 years of age. With the casting of Colin Donnell as Tommy Merlyn last week, we were starting to think that we'd reached the end of the road of big "Arrow" casting announcements. But perhaps we were wrong.
The TV Addict, the same folks who posted the initial "Arrow" character breakdowns some weeks ago, have revealed that there's another familiar DC Comics character making her way into The CW's planned Green Arrow pilot: none other than Cat Grant, fearless reporter for the Daily Planet.
In a recent post, the TV Addict wrote:
Smallville fans who are still in mourning over their dearly departed Superman series will be pleased to discover that Arrow isn’t wasting anytime when it comes to bringing familiar faces back into the fold. Less pleased, will be actress Keri Lynn Pratt, who it appears will have to re-audition for the role of Cat Grant that producers have re-imagined as a...

/> TV Addict is reporting that more Smallville characters will be turning up in Arrow, this time it's Daily Planet gossip columnist Cat Grant. Known in the comics for trying to steal Clark Kent from Lois Lane, TV Addict reports that this version will be 're-imagined as a sexy TMZ-style reporter who appears in the Arrow pilot to cover the unexpected reappearance of Oliver Queen'. They also go on to report that Smallville alum Keri Lynn Pratt is up to reprise the role further blurring the lines of whether Arrow has a connection to Smallville. Some fans have speculated that the show will be a prequel to Smallville, in the sense that it follows Oliver before he arrives in Metropolis. On 18 January, 2012, The CW greenlit the pilot for a proposed Green Arrow series with Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg producing. The series, Arrow, will offer a fresh...

Clark (Tom Welling) tells Lois (Erica Durance) that his glasses are driving him crazy, so's the jacket, Er it's a raincoat/mac. He thinks the Blur needs to show his face soon so that people continue to trust him. Lois tells him there's nothing heroic or handsome about Clark Kent so he should stop being so great. Clark was a klutz in Smallville. Lois is vying for the promotion to City Desk. A clumsy boy that Lois noticed earlier on, falls in front of a truck and is rescued by Booster Gold, (Eric Martsolf) before Clark can get to him. Booster claims you have to "keep yourself open to the cameras." A bug escapes from the vehicle in the boy's backpack. Booster to Clark: "Nice glasses." At the Daily Planet, Clark bumps into another man with glasses too, who asks Clark if he's forgotten how to walk. This is ridiculous,...

The scene opens in the desert with Lois (Erica Durance) arriving in Egypt. Her dream assignment is going down the plughole fast. She picks up a manuscript with two Egyptian gods and Carter Hall (Michael Shanks) calls them star-crossed lovers. Plenty of references to those in this episode, what with Clark (Tom Welling) and Lois, Chloe (Allison Mack) and Oliver (Justin Hartley), as well as Carter and his wife, Shayera. (Which was about as close as you could get to Daniel Jackson's wife's name in Stargate SG1! - Sha're.) He comments, "guess you never know what fate has planned for you." The star-crossed lovers being an allusion towards Clark and Lois and he's here not only to keep an eye on her but ensure they do get together; or at least they can in the future. Carter as we recall is Hawkman. Clark leaves messages for Chloe about the...

But tonight's episode of The Mentalist (TV) wasn't on par with previous shows this season. It wasn't bad by any means, but it didn't deliver the gut punch of awesome I've experienced this fall. That doesn't mean there weren't some great moments, however. Wealthy and influential federal judge Pauline Fitz-Williams (Cristine Rose) is hosting a funeral for her departed mother at her ultra-secure compound. When her daughter Sophie (Chryssie Whitehead) goes to find her wayward sister Abby, she finds Abby's dead boyfriend instead. Abby is no where to be found. "Smallville" will reach the 200th milestone next week. Lois decides to tell Clark she knows he's The Blur, but she accidentally activates an ancient artifact that transforms her into the Goddess Isis, complete with superpowers of her own. Oliver and Clark reluctantly decide to ask Tess for help with Lois.
Meanwhile, after Cat Grant (guest star Keri Lynn Pratt) witnesses Lois as Isis using her superpowers, she decides Lois is the Blur and sets out to prove it. The episode is called "Isis" and it airs October 22.
"Smallville" executive producer Brian Peterson told IGN that crafting the 200th installment "was hard, because the 100th episode was so iconic and had such a huge gravity to it." He added, "We wanted to have something that really had that kind of gravity, but also be a much more uplifting push off, because that's kind of this season - looking back, but also pushing off with hope.

After the milestone 200th episode airs tonight, October 15 (see promo photos and a sneak peek), Smallville turns it attention to the next new episode on tap for October 22. In it, Lois will play the Egyptian goddess Isis.
As the goddess of motherhood, magic and fertility, Isis has appeared in many popular culture forms, including as a character in several DC comics and in a 1970s live-action television show on CBS (in addition to appearing in several cartoon shows).
In the Smallville episode, Lois will be possessed by the spirit of Isis and will attempt to sacrifice Clark in order to use his body to resurrect her husband, Osiris. The CW has released a few promo photos for the episode. Lois’ costume is reminiscent of the one worn in the 1970s CBS show.

For those that could no longer stand the site of Clark Kent's (Tom Welling) black trench coat, it's time to rejoice. With its second episode, "Shield," Smallville continued to usher Clark closer to his destiny, which meant not only exploring the mental obstacles of donning a superhero persona but also sporting our hero in some shiny new threads (a sleek, blood red racing jacket with the "S" emblem). But the unexpected costume reveal wasn't the only ostensible positive from this solid episode, "Shield" gave us more cameos from the DC Universe and a solid character progression piece to boot. With Lois away on assignment in Africa, Clark learns some important lessons from an unlikely source: his new partner at the Planet, the exuberant Cat Grant (Keri Lynn Pratt). Initially, she's pressing all of his buttons and much to his chagrin, she's intent on spreading around her superhero-hating ways like the...

The actress explained that Grant was very similar to her comic book counterpart in that she often ends up (more)...

The long and short of this episode is that it serves as a continuation of the themes from “Lazarus.” Namely: pride and choice. We have a plot focused on characters swallowing their pride and being selfless for the betterment of others, whether they’re family (Cat), loved ones (Chloe and Lois) or random annoying people who don’t deserve to die (Clark.) This is the white hat response, and it serves to contrast/parallel with the choices made by the insidious Suicide Squad.
Cleverly, the show creates an argument that sometimes pride is vital. Deadshot doesn’t need people to know he’s good at his job, he gets a sick thrill out of it; whereas Clark is reminded in this episode that however far he’s come as a symbol is not far enough. To truly inspire people, he has to step into the light and take pride in his work.

['Smallville' - 'Shield']
It looked as if 'Smallville' was speeding straight back to standalone story territory this week after last Friday's dark season premiere, but 'Shield' had a lot more to offer than the average "Clark vs. the freak-of-the-week" plot.
First off, the episode delivered an iconic villain with DC Comics baddie Deadshot/Floyd Lawton (Bradley Stryker). Deadshot wasn't the only comic book character who leaped from the funnypages and onto the screen this week. We also got a visit from conservative cutie Cat Grant (Keri Lynn Pratt) and saw the return of Carter Hall/Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Rick Flag (Ted Whittal) and Bette/Plastique (Jessica Parker Kennedy).

Goodbye trench-coated black blur, hello red, blue and slicked back! For all the Smallville Spoilers we dabble in here at Ugo, we were delighted by "Shield" and its unanticipated final reveal of Clark Kent taking one step closer to Superman with his brand spanking new red leather and blue outfit.
As the second episode of Smallville's final outing, both "Lazarus" and "Shield" have moved key positions firmly into place with their ultimate reveals; the former bringing our first glimpse of Darkseid and the latter showing the closest we'll get to true Superman before the final episode. It's the kind of effective and methodical strategy that boasts full confidence in executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Soulders for the coming endgame.
Though once again, the pure fanboy giddiness of these reveals tends to overshadow the episode that comes before it, "Shield" does stand well, both as a return to business...

So how about that Smallville final season premiere last week? I have to admit, I’ve never really watched an episode of Smallville before until the season 10 premiere, but I liked it so much I decided to start back at the beginning and watch all of the seasons beginning with season 1. I’m looking forward to trying to cram 9 years of the show before it ends in the spring.
The CW has released a sneak peek and an episode preview for the upcoming new episode of Smallville on October 1. Check them out below and then go take a look at promo photos we previously posted for the episode.

Smallville is officially back and wastes no time plugging away at its descent into DC mythology after last week's "Lazarus." This coming Friday's second entry into the tenth and final season, "Shield" will see characters Cat Grant and Deadshot introduced into the fold, played by Keri Lyn Pratt and Bradley Stryker, resptectively.
The drama chronicling the early years of Superman saw fit to briefly introduce a "Catherine Grant" in the eight season, likely an early nod to the DC comics character before the decision was made to bring in an official version. "Shield" marks the official debut of Deadshot, the deadly red-eyed gunslinger usually of Batman lore. Deadshot will be portrayed as a member of Amanda Waller's Suicide Squad, which saw its debut last season.
But don't take our word for it! Check out The CW's official description:

So, yes. The good news is that Robert Englund, ever-famous for his portrayal of Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street will appear on Chuck as Dr. Stanley Wheelwright, "an evil scientist who can make your waking life a nightmare." Hardy...har...har.
The bad news is these, among other casting moves, will eventually reach a breaking point that trades honest storytelling among our favorite shows for celebrity appearances. We're all for the Geek Casting of Chuck, or even the DC Adaptations of Smallville, but when seen as a whole, won't the actual episodes get completely overshadowed?
Let's review. Announced thus far:
Chuck: Dolph Lundgren, Linda Hamilton, Olivia Munn, Lou Ferrigno, Karolina Kurkova, Bronson Pinchot, Isaiah Mustafa, Stacy Keibler, Nicole Richie, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, Armand Assante, Batista, Eric Roberts, Joel David Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Robert Englund.

There’s been a nagging trend in comedies since, oh around the time Kevin Smith and Clerks came onto the scene. For good measure, let’s also throw in the Farrelly Brothers and their cultclassic Dumb & Dumber. Maybe not those specific films, but somehwere around that time or a couple years earlier, comedies decided they needed the over-confident idiot character who would always get his chums into trouble. He’s accompanied by stubborn jackass, who doesn’t want to be there as well as bumbling idiot do-gooder, who usually has something hanging in the balance. Either of these characters can be annoying as all sin, just so long as one of them is. The laughs in these films usually consist of pure out shock toilet humor, involving a character doing something completely outrageous and out of the ordinary. Tucker Max seems to have lived some pretty outrageous times in his life,...

The players: Director: Bob Gosse, Writers: Tucker Max, Nils Parker, Cast: Matt Czuchry, Jesse Bradford, Geoff Stults, Keri Lynn Pratt
Facts of interest: Based on Tucker Max's best seller.
The plot: The film follows Tucker Max as he and his buddies visit a strip club to launch a friend's bachelor party.
Our thoughts: Up until now, I have never seen a film in which the protagonist realizes he’s an asshole after uncontrollably shitting his pants in the middle of a hotel lobby. That’s exactly what happens in Bob Gosse’s “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell,” which is based on Tucker Max’s hilarious, yet downright vulgar best seller.

This week, contrasting approaches to filmmaking bring about balance and equilibrium. Experimentalism (Sally Potter's "Rage" and Michael Almereyda's "Paradise") collides head on with tried and tested formulas (the Clive Owen starrer "The Boys Are Back" and a remake of "Fame").
