[This story contains spoilers from the April 17 episode of Abbott Elementary, “2 Ava 2 Fest.”]
Ava Fest returned to Abbott Elementary for a second year in a row during Wednesday night’s “2 Ava 2 Fest” episode. But, unlike the first festival in season two of the ABC sitcom — where the wildly unqualified principal of Willard R. Abbott school pretended the name of the petition-signing effort stood for “A Very Abbott Festival” — this time around, she wastes no time professing her true intentions.
“Of course it’s about Ava, what do you mean?” actress Janelle James, who portrays Ava in the Quinta Brunson comedy, asks facetiously. “She just wants to have a party, charge at the door, take half. What’s the big deal?”
The big deal in the episode turns out to be Ava’s promise that Questlove will perform at the festival, which none of the teachers believe after she failed to book R&b singer Jazmine Sullivan the year prior. But...

No details yet on how each of these actors will come into contact with the teachers at Abbott.
Audiences won’t have to wait much longer for them to start rolling through, though. Summer is set to appear in her first episode on Wednesday. Here’s the logline for that one:

“Bel-Air” has been renewed for a third season at Peacock, the streamer announced on Friday.
The series launched in February 2022 as the streamer’s most-watched original premiere, and remains Peacock’s most-watched original series to date.
The dramatic reimagining of the ‘90s Will Smith sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” was inspired by Morgan Cooper’s 2019 four-minute spec trailer, “Bel-Air,” which went viral on social media. Set in modern-day Los Angeles, Peacock’s one-hour drama series imagines the beloved sitcom with a new perspective on Will’s journey from West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. As his upbringing and his new environment collide, Will navigates the conflicts and biases of a world far different from the only one he’s ever known, while striving for a second chance at success.

Peacock’s Bel-Air is nearly matching the number of seasons with its showrunners.
The NBCUniversal-backed streamer has handed out a third-season renewal for its reimagining of Will Smith’s beloved The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The dramatic take on the former comedy series that is inspired by Morgan Cooper’s viral short was originally picked up at Peacock with a two-season order following a competitive bidding process with other streamers vying for the series.
The season three renewal marks its first vote of confidence beyond that initial order and follows a wave of showrunner changes as the drama struggled to find its creative voice. Carla Banks Waddles was recruited as showrunner at the start of season two. The Good Girls and The Soul Man alum was promoted from co-exec producer to showrunner and replaced T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson (Army Wives, Lie to Me) at the helm of Bel-Air.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is one of the defining TV shows of the ’90s, helping fuel Will Smith’s launch to stardom. The funny, heartfelt series ran on television for six years, with Smith portraying a fictionalized version of himself. Smith wasn’t the only megawatt personality in the cast, however. He was supported by an impressive ensemble cast of supporting actors, including Tatyana Ali as Ashley Banks. These days, Ali is returning to the world of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, in reboot Bel-Air. The actor recently opened up about what it was like to be part of such an iconic show, and how she still stays in touch with her old co-stars from back in the day.

“Bel-Air” showrunner and executive producer Carla Banks-Waddles says the show’s writers got the messages loud and clear from fans and the cast about what they’d like to see for Season 2 – and those ideas are being weighed and considered.
Peacock’s most-watched original series is back with a fresh new season, and Banks-Waddles says a lot of the storylines in Season 2 were a mix of writers’ ideas and what fans reacted to from Season 1.
“I think it was a combination of knowing the conversations we were having in Season 1,” Banks-Waddles told TheWrap. “[Writers] were like, ‘Oh, maybe that’s something to look harder at. What’s that storyline?’ People really loved Jazz and Hillary in Season 1. What is Uncle Phil doing now that he quit the D.A. race in Season 1? What was he doing before he did that? Peacock's revival of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" reunites us with some of our favorite characters, in new form. Newcomer Jabari Banks steps into Will Smith's shoes as Will, while Adrian Holmes plays Banks family patriarch Philip Banks. Vivian (Cassandra Freeman), Carlton (Olly Sholotan), Hilary (Coco Jones), and Ashley Banks's (Akira Akbar) roles have also been recast, while April Parker Jones plays Will's mother. And during the show's season one finale, we finally reunited with Will's father, Lou.
For those who don't remember, Lou (originally played by Ben Vareen) abandoned his family in "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" when Will was just 5 years old, leaving Vy to raise Will on her own. Per Hilary, he was "a deadbeat who left him and his mom flat." Lou went on to become a trucker and was absent for most of Will's life until season four, episode 24 ("Papa's Got a Brand...

Peacock's "Bel-Air" has been a nostalgic trip down memory lane for many, especially Tatyana Ali. The 44-year-old industry vet - best known for playing Ashley Banks in "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" - joined season two of the dramatized reimagining, which kicked off on Feb. 23, not as her classic '90s character - which has since been adopted and updated by 16-year-old Akira Akbar - but in a new role: Ashley's beloved English teacher, Mrs. Hughes.
"I thought it got to the core of some of the things about Ashley that might still be the same from show to show in a really cool way."
While fans continue to compare the legacy of "The Fresh Prince" to its modern-day makeover (and sing its praises), Ali acknowledges that the two shows are, in many ways, "not the same." So she didn't approach her "Bel-Air" season two offer as a return to the familiar.

“Bel-Air” creator Morgan Cooper said since day one of developing the reimagined version of “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” he and Will Smith found “organic ways” to include the original cast members.
From a viral reimagining to a meeting with Smith and onto Peacock screens, “Bel-Air” is now the streamer’s most-watched original series. While it is inspired by NBC’s original sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” Cooper told TheWrap that he was very intentional about the show having its own identity and even refused to watch “Fresh Prince” during “Bel-Air’s” early development.
“When I was making the short film we released in 2019, which got this started, it was really important to me throughout the whole process of creating it to not watch ‘Fresh Prince’ at all,” Cooper said, adding that the series won’t perfectly mirror the storylines from its predecessor. “We’re not going to extrapolate ideas from it,...
