David Mitchell leads new BBC crime drama Ludwig, and the first details of the show have landed.
David Mitchell has become a familiar face in UK comedy, whether trying to discern who’s telling the truth in Would I Lie To You? or as the uptight Mark Corrigan alongside long time comedy partner Robert Webb in Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain’s Peep Show.
He also took on the role of William Shakespeare in Ben Elton’s sitcom Upstart Crow, and reprised the role for a stage adaptation that opened in 2020 and then again when the play was restaged in 2022
Just as Alan Davies took a left turn from stand-up comedy to drama in David Renwick’s superb Jonathan Creek, Mitchell is now moving into the realm of crime drama to play the title role in six part BBC series Ludwig.
The synopsis reads as follows:
When John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor’s (David Mitchell) identical twin,...

Mystery fans, rejoice!!
There's a new Acorn TV Original right around the corner, and it's very, very good.
P.D. James wrote 14 novels based on detective and poet Adam Dalgliesh, and the new series simply goes by the title Dalgliesh.
Bertie Carvel is bringing the enigmatic yet emotionally intelligent and empathetic Dalgliesh to life in a season set in 1970s England.
Dalgliesh specializes in solving unusual murders. The cases may sound relatively benign, but they unfold unusually and strike a chord with the viewer.
We'll first meet Dalgliesh looking into the murder of a nursing student poisoned to death during a live training demonstration (it's a death that sticks with you!).
Another investigation will involve the murders of a homeless man and a recently resigned Tory MP whose throats were slit in a London church.
Dalgliesh will also be called upon to solve a series of suspicious deaths at a home for the disabled.

In today’s Global Bulletin, the English Premier League renews rights deals for three years; Stephen Graham-starrer “Boiling Point” sells wide; Nent Group sets terrorism drama “Red Election”; Endeavor Content strengthens management team; and Alchimie and All3Media International launch SVOD channel Inside Outside in the U.S.
The English Premier League soccer championship has agreed a proposal for a three-year renewal of U.K. live and non-live broadcast agreements with Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime Video and BBC Sport.
The rights deal worth £5 billion ($7 billion) was agreed in 2018 and will now be rolled over from 2022-2025.
This follows approval in principle for the renewal from the U.K. government after a period of consideration where the League cited the damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Enabled by an exclusion order from the government, the League will conclude the renewals without the normal broadcast rights tender process.

It may not be as... athletic in its portrayals of intimacy as the Bertolucci film to which its title is a nod, but British romantic drama "Last Tango in Halifax" was a hit on PBS last year, and is slated to return for a second season this summer. The BBC series stars Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid as Alan and Celia, two childhood sweethearts who rekindle their romance 60 years after they first met, and its success speaks again to the power of underserved older audiences eager to see characters to which they can relate. Season two of the drama will premiere on PBS on June 29 at 8pm. Jacobi also stars in the new sitcom "Vicious," which will join the lineup on Sunday, July 6 at 10:30pm. "Last Tango in Halifax" is written by Sally Wainwright (“Scott and Bailey") and directed by Euros Lyn ("Sherlock") and Jill Robertson ("Law & Order: UK...
