16 years have passed since “Little Children” hit theaters. Now, the world is finally getting another Todd Field movie. The writer-director is returning to the fall festival circuit — and (presumably) the Oscar race — this year with “TÁR,” a new project set against the highly competitive classical music scene in Germany. If “Little Children” and Field’s earlier “In The Bedroom” were any indication of the filmmaker’s modern sensibilities, cinephiles should be in for a real treat when his third feature opens this fall.
Cate Blanchett stars as the titular Lydia Tár, an accomplished orchestra conductor. Not much has been revealed about the film’s plot and the trailer provides precious few cryptic clues. According to the official synopsis from Focus Features, “TÁR” is “set in the international world of classical music, centers on Lydia Tár, widely considered one of the greatest living composer/conductors and first-ever female chief conductor of a major German orchestra.

The original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a movie that was based on the build-up of tension, until it became unbearable for the audience, with an explosion of violence that many don’t forget. Made in 1974, it has had sequels, been remade in many forms through the years and Netflix are the latest to give an attempt to revamp the series with a follow up to the original. The question is, does it live up to the original?

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise is an odd one. There’s about four different timelines despite not that many movies, and although the quality has actually been good (for the most part), none have really got close to the sheer sense of terror that the first movie delivered. As always though, I was very much excited to see the latest movie.
This one is a direct sequel to the original movie and not linked to any other sequels that came before it. A new timeline altogether set in present-day almost fifty years after the original as Leatherface is once again disrupted by a new group of young friends and is soon getting to...

"50 years I've been waiting for this night... just to see him again." Netflix has fired up the gnarly official trailer for their new Texas Chain Saw Massacre film. It's officially titled Texas Chainsaw Massacre and will be streaming on Netflix starting this February. After nearly 50 years of hiding, Leatherface returns to terrorize a group of idealistic young friends that accidentally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Texas town. Much like last year's Ghostbusters, this skips everything else and it plays as a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper's original 1974 Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Leatherface only gets angry when people come home. This sequel stars Elsie Fisher, Sarah Yarkin, Mark Burnham, Moe Dunford, Olwen Fouéré, Alice Krige, Jacob Latimore, Nell Hudson, Jessica Allain, Sam Douglas, William Hope, Jolyon Coy. Damn this looks brutal! The bus scene is going to be insane. Lots of blood and gore in here - watch out.

When Duane Sarcione (Michael T. Weiss) finds himself in the hole with mobster ‘The Sledge’ (Sam Douglas), he has no choice but to run. It’s not a surprising move despite only knowing him for five minutes — gambling has a hold and he’s drowning under the weight of turmoil both in and out of his control. This act, however, isn’t without collateral damage. His wife had already passed away, but his young son Gino (Nolan Lyons) was still around struggling to get through school with the help of his ‘Gramps’ Joe (Robert Miano). Suddenly Gino and Joe are left holding Duane’s debt because ‘The Sledge’ would rather have his hooks in a local than worry about chasing a coward. The ramifications of this new dynamic arrive ten years later.

Game Of Thrones star James Cosmo is to star in upcoming spy-thriller series Magnum Opus.
The actor, who plays Jeor Mormont on the HBO series Game Of Thrones, will be joined by Jamie Anderson (The Contract) and Sam Douglas (Snatch) on the project.
Timothy Gibbs is to star, co-direct, co-write and produce the series, which has been picked up by London-based production company Carnaby International.
The television series will focus on a CIA operative's fight for justice following the 1988 Pan Am Flight 103 bombing in Lockerbie that killed his parents.
Speaking to Variety about the project, Gibbs said: "This is a genuinely independently-produced TV series.
"We have gotten offers from some of the biggest, blue-chip distributors in the business to distribute Magnum Opus, one company even wanted to buy it outright but Carnaby offered us the fairest of deals, and is small enough to recognise we need a true partnership but...

Man, I hope he doesn’t die in this one. When Sean Bean stars in a movie that involves gunplay, swordplay, or any type of play involving sharp/dangerous objects, the chances of Bean’s character dying is, like, multiplied by a few hundred factors. I believe that has been scientifically proven. In “Cleanskin”, Eddard Stark himself plays a badass British Guv’ment agent who must stop a Muslim terrorist cell. Judging by the film’s tagline, I suspect said terrorist will have ties to the Guv’ment, and possibly a conspiracy or two, possibly involving Charlotte Rampling, who looks very suspicious skulking about the screen. The UK gets the film on March 9th, 2012. Stateside fans of the Beanster will probably have to wait for the DVD release, since I don’t see a Bean-fronted movie getting a theatrical release, even a limited one, over here. Which sucks for us,...

Check out six clips from the Luc Besson-produced, Olivier Megaton-directed “Colombiana”. (By the way, can you think of a better name for an action director than Olivier Megaton? I can’t.) The film stars Zoe Saldana as a hired killer with a heart of gold. Basically, you’ve seen this premise before. Like, a few hundred other times. Except this time that lonely hitman next door who keeps to himself is a hot lady. That’s, you know, kinda different. Cataleya is a young woman who has grown up to be an assassin after witnessing the murder of her parents as a child. Turning herself into a professional killer and working for her uncle, she remains focused on her ultimate goal: to hunt down and get revenge on the mobster responsible for her parents’ deaths. Starring Zoe Saldana, Lennie James, Michael Vartan, Cliff Curtis, Marshall Warren, Callum Blue,...

Check out a new batch of images from director Olivier Megaton’s latest actioner, the Zoe Saldana starrer “Colombiana”, blasting into theaters September 2, 2011. The film looks like it has the makings of a decent action movie, if yet another entry in the well-tread “loner hitman” genre. Plus, this is another product from the Luc Besson action movie assembly line, so don’t expect anything too outrageously, well, good. In celebration of Slacker's 20th anniversary, local filmmakers are re-creating scenes from the Richard Linklater movie for Slacker 2011, a fundraising project benefitting the Texas Filmmakers Production Fund (Tfpf). The trailer is now available. As we await the August 31 premiere, we're chatting with some of the filmmakers participating in one or more of the short films that will comprise the project.
Today's interview is with Sam Wainwright Douglas, documentarian and director of Citizen Architect: Samuel Mockbee and the Spirit of the Rural Studio, as well as The Holy Modal Rounders: Bound to Lose. He also acted in 2010's The Happy Poet.
Slackerwood: Which scene from the film did you reshoot?
Sam Douglas: I shot Scene 12, known as the mechanic scene. It's the one where the conspiracy buff annoys the guy working on his car, the mechanic's buddy shows up, they talk cars, they head to the junkyard, swipe some auto parts,...

The Colombiana Movie Trailer has premiered. Olivier Megaton‘s Colombiana (2011), produced by Luc Besson, stars Zoe Saldana, Michael Vartan, Jordi Mollà, Lennie James, and Cliff Curtis. Colombiana‘s plot synopsis: “Cataleya Restrepo (Zoe Saldana) works for her uncle Emilio (Cliff Curtis) as a hitman by day, but her personal time is spent engaging in vigilante murders that she hopes will lead her to her ultimate target: the mobster responsible for her parents’ death.” After what Luc Besson was able to create with The Professional and Taken, is it any wonder that the trailer for Colombiana heralds a action film that looks this good. “No Sir!” There is a great score to the movie trailer as well. All things being equal though, The Mechanic remake looked good as well and it turned out to be generic and forgettable. Colombiana looks like a mixture of Hanna, The American, and Lucky Number Slevin.

Latino Review has got its hand on three official pictures of "Colombiana". All of them expose Zoe Saldana's Cataleya Restrepo, who apparently will stay sexy despite her tough job as a professional assassin.
Cataleya witnessed the brutal murder of her parents by a Colombian drug lord Don Luis while she was 10 years old. She manages to escape the bullets of the assassin and reach Chicago, where her uncle Emilio, also a gangster, lives.
Emilio is doing its best to remove Cataleya from the criminal life, but she is determined to become a professional killer. At 25, Cataleya has become a real killer operating on behalf of her uncle, Emilio. But her sole desire is to find Don Luis to avenge the death of her parents.
Directed by Olivier Megaton with the script written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, "Colombiana" is scheduled to open wide in U.S. cinemas on September 2, 2011. Michael Vartan,...

Innovation in video games can be a rare commodity. Every day we see titles pour onto store shelves which are derivative of successful franchises, attempting to copy what the last guy did while making it slightly better to justify another $60 purchase. "Heavy Rain" is not one of those games. While it has roots in classic adventure gaming, it's unlike anything I've ever played. It's also not very good.
The Basics
Remember those "Choose Your Own Adventure" novels you read growing up? "Heavy Rain" is just like those, but with way more choice. You'll control four different characters in an eastern seaboard American city (inspired, the developers tell me, by Philadelphia). The characters are tied together by the actions of a scourge known as The Origami Killer.
The Origami Killer has been kidnapping children and drowning them in rainwater. Your actions as the four characters will determine whether the latest kidnap victim survives.
