By now, everyone agrees that 1985’s Fletch, starring Chevy Chase, is a classic comedy. Indeed, the mixture of thriller and comedy made the movie iconic in its own way, with it an adaptation of the classic series by Gregory Mcdonald. In it, Chase played investigative reporter Irwin M. Fletcher, who is hired to kill a millionaire in a case of mistaken identity and is able to uncover a conspiracy involving corrupt cops, drug trafficking, and more. What made the movie unique compared to many eighties comedies was the compelling storyline, which came from Mcdonald’s book, the solid mixture of action and comedy, and that amazing soundtrack by Harold Faltermeyer.
It was such a big hit that in 1989, it got a sequel, Fletch Lives. However, while the first film is considered a classic, many maintain that the sequel is terrible, mostly because it didn’t bother to adapt one of...

Paging Dr. Trowbridge! Paging Dr. Trowbridge!
It was only appropriate that Parker used the name of a fictional doctor when pretending to be a cardiac surgeon on NCIS Season 21 Episode 8.
When his back was against the wall and he had to improvise, Parker hollered out the name of Chevy Chase's Dr. Emmett Trowbridge from the classic 1985 film "Spies Like Us."
It's about time that Gary Cole had another turn in the spotlight.
Sure, fans still wait with bated breath for any mention of Gibbs.
But Cole's Alden Parker has made for a smooth transition to the post-Gibbs world since he took over the team on NCIS Season 19 Episode 6.
Parker and Gibbs are near opposites. His bullpen is more collegial and less technophobic. If you must go in a different direction, go in a different direction. That's definitely the case when it comes to team leadership.

John Carpenter's 1992 film "Memoirs of an Invisible Man" was a departure for the director. Throughout the 1980s, Carpenter directed many notable genre films that affected a direct and guileless style that roped in many fans and critics. His 1980s "hot streak" included "Escape from New York," "The Thing," "Christine," "Starman," and "Big Trouble in Little China." Although his 1987 film "Prince of Darkness" was nonsensical, it has many defenders, and his 1988 film "They Live" is now considered a seminal anti-establishment punk-rock text of the Reagan era.
That streak seems to have ended with "Memoirs," however. Although the film is slick, entertaining, and boasts some excellent special effects, many Carpenter fans felt a little off-put by the director's attempts to helm a comedic Chevy Chase vehicle. In "Memoirs," Chase plays a stock market guy who is accidentally exposed to an invisibility experiment. The film follows his travails as he adjusts to his lack of opacity,...

Alison Brie has responded to Chevy Chase’s remarks about Community not being funny and “hard hitting” enough.
While appearing on Watch What Happens Live on Monday night, the Apples Never Fall star was asked by a fan what she thought about her former co-star’s comments.
Brie, who noted that the remark was made on her former Glow co-star Marc Maron’s Wtf podcast, of which she’s an avid listener, said she heard the comment live before it was covered online. “I actually think that was the better way to digest that information because I could hear Chevy’s tone,” she explained. “When you read it on a headline, it reads much harsher. I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s just Chevy being Chevy,’ and he’s entitled to his opinions and his experience of the show.”
The actress added that she doesn’t “take it personally.”

Alison Brie is sharing an update on the Community movie and revealed that they have a script.
While appearing on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, Brie said she had read the script for the long-awaited movie.
“We got a script, which is a major update,” Brie said on the late-night show. “We got a script — you heard it here first.”
She continued, “I’ve read the script, and it’s so funny.”
Brie noted that there were no set dates for filming the movie. Furthermore, the Apples Never Fall star expressed her wishes for her character, Annie.
“I hope that Annie hasn’t changed too much because I loved her just the way she was,” she said.

“Animal Control” star Joel McHale is keeping the vermin off his “Community” movie set. McHale told The Post that Chevy Chase is not welcome back for the upcoming Peacock movie adaptation.
“I don’t think he’s allowed to [return],” McHale said. “I don’t think it would happen. I don’t think [him returning] is a thing. Obviously his unceremonious departure in Season 4 pretty much did that in.”
McHale added: “I’m guessing if you asked him, he wouldn’t be interested” in starring in the movie.
The “Community” movie is the culmination of Dan Harmon’s preordained six-seasons-and-a-movie destiny for his NBC sitcom. Chase was part of most of it, but was fired from the series in 2013 after allegedly using a racist slur against co-star Donald Glover and butting heads with series creator Harmon.
Despite starring on the series for four years, Chase has been vocal about his own disdain for the comedy style of “Community,...

Lorne Michaels is an expert at celebrating the legacy of “Saturday Night Live.” The show’s creator has produced variety specials for the NBC program’s 15th anniversary, 25th anniversary and 40th anniversary, so the upcoming 50th season should have a highly entertaining spectacle. Nothing less than a three-hour event would be expected, but how else should “SNL” celebrate the golden anniversary season, which would begin in the autumn of 2024 and continue through May, 2025?
Here is our exciting, fun suggestion for a way to go above and beyond for the live special. Over the course of a 20-22 episode season, NBC would certainly have almost every episode featuring the current cast along with hot guest hosts and musical guests. However, for the other five episodes spread out over several months, devote an entire 90 minutes to each previous decade. Invite back the biggest cast members from a decade along with well-known guest hosts and music stars.

Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan conducted an extensive series of interviews with the living cast, writers and crew of the first-ever episode of Saturday Night Live, which aired on October 11, 1975 on NBC and has been going ever since. The result of their efforts is Sony Pictures’ upcoming SNL 1975, a movie retelling the story of that night.
The pic, which Reitman and Kenan co-wrote and which Reitman is directing, tells the chaotic behind-the-scenes story of what happened that first night, just before the live cameras clicked on to launch a late-night institution and a slew of eventual stars among the young, mostly unknown troupe of comedians including John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase and Gilda Radner, all under the watchful eye of creator Lorne Michaels.

J.K. Simmons has joined the cast of Jason Reitman’s SNL 1975, and not only will the Oscar winner be playing Hollywood legend Milton Berle, but he’ll have the notable distinction of becoming the first actual SNL host to join the cast of the Sony movie.
Simmons hosted the Jan. 31, 2015 episode of Saturday Night Live, which featured D’Angelo as the musical guest. At the time, Simmons was riding high off an Oscar nomination for Whiplash, and he would go on to win the Academy Award following his SNL hosting stint.

Short’s first exposure to American audiences was as a member of the Second City troupe in the sketch show, “Sctv Network 90,” which aired on NBC from 1981-83 and earned Short his first Emmy for writing. There he created such signature Short characters as Ed Grimley and Jiminy Glick. 1985’s Fletch was directed by Michael Ritchie and written by Andrew Bergman. The film is an adaptation of the popular novels written by Gregory McDonald and brings a more comedic and dry approach to its titular character, Fletch, played by Chevy Chase. Fletch is an investigative journalist working the undercover beat as a homeless beach junkie as he tries to uncover the truth behind a kingpin-level drug ring that is looming over greater L.A. While undercover, Fletch is propositioned by a rich man called Alan Stanwick who claims to be dying of bone cancer to kill the man in his upper-class home so that his family can reap the benefits of his life insurance. In exchange, Fletch will receive $50,000 cash and a ticket out of the country.

In Hollywood, casting decisions can make or break a movie. Sometimes, the biggest roles almost end up in different hands, which changes the story. Take Ghostbusters, for example, the classic film with the guys chasing ghosts. Well, imagine if Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts were carrying those proton packs! Alongside them, crazy, right?
A still from Ghostbusters (1984)
We all know the Ghostbusters crew, isn’t that so? However, they might have looked totally different. Back in ’84, Ivan Reitman dropped this flick about a ghost-catching scientist in New York City, and it blew up. Fans and critics couldn’t get enough of it. Then, in 1989, a sequel was released, but it did not quite hit the same high notes.
Attempts to make a third Ghostbusters film persevered for quite a while, yet hit a roadblock with Harold Ramis’ passing in 2014. Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot of the franchise featured an all-female team with nods to the originals.

Things were going badly on Saturday Night Live‘s 1980-1981 season, even before producer Jean Doumanian realized than the January 10, 1981 episode was headed towards disaster.
The previous season had seen the departure of Lorne Michaels and the entire cast, including founders Gilda Radner, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, and Laraine Newman, as well as Bill Murray and Harry Shearer. Doumanian had tried to pitch her incoming group of comedians as the next generation for the hit series, but the performers quickly gained reputations as also-rans. Charlie Rocket was a less funny Chevy Chase, Gail Matthius an off-brand Jane Curtin, and so on.
But on that Jan. 10, 1981 episode, hosted by actor Ray Sharkey, things were going particularly badly. The skits went faster than anticipated and the show had five extra minutes to fill. So in an act of desperation, Doumanian followed the advice of writer Neil Levy and pushed 19-year-old featured player...

With the recent reveal of the brand new spin-off series NCIS: Europe, Mark Harmon appears to not be over his longstanding feud with his former co-star.
NCIS is one of the longest-running shows in television history. With over 450 episodes, the military police procedural has spanned across three separate decades. With that much history packed into one TV show, there is bound to be an on-set beef or two. For NCIS, Mark Harmon’s feud with Michael Weatherly was so prominent, that it appears to still be ongoing.
According to a source familiar with the former co-stars’ working relationship, Harmon still has very little patience for Weatherly’s behavior. “As far as he’s [Harmon] concerned, Michael is a toxic pain in the butt,” the source told Closer. “He’s nothing but trouble.” Even after years apart, Harmon still “considers Michael a loose cannon.”

Who ya gonna call? Well, if you’re one of the next generation of Ghostbusters, you can probably ring up one of the Og crew, as it turns out they’ve been more than receptive to the younger cast of Frozen Empire. Finn Wolfhard and Dan Aykroyd living together? Mass hysteria!
As Wolfhard told The Hollywood Reporter in promotion for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (and some TV show called Stranger Things – the dude is busy!), the original cast has been welcoming to the new blood, saying, “We spent so many days together on set, and we hung out a few times outside of set as well. Dan [Aykroyd], Annie [Potts] and everyone are such open books, and you can ask them anything about their lives and their industry stories. Released in 1984, Ivan Reitman’s supernatural comedy film Ghostbusters has become a cultural phenomenon, with its memorable story and iconic characters portrayed by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson.
And the original cast of the film is set to return in the upcoming film in the franchise, Frozen Empire. Fans are highly eager to see the original cast of the film returning to the screen alongside the new cast, as it certainly seems impossible to imagine anyone else in the ghost-busting ensemble.

However, the casting process could have taken a different direction as the filmmakers had other names in mind as well, even for Murray’s iconic character Peter Venkman. Dan Aykroyd wrote the character for the late actor-comedian John Belushi.

Joe Camp, the creator, director and writer of the “Benji” films, died March 15. He was 84.
Camp died Friday morning at his home in Bell Buckle, Tenn., following a battle with illness, according to his son, filmmaker and writer of the 2018 “Benji” reboot, Brandon Camp.
Camp had nearly no Hollywood experience before he raised $500,000 to make the first “Benji” film, a family movie about a lovable mutt who saves a pair of children from kidnappers. Higgins the dog, who previously appeared on the CBS sitcom “Petticoat Junction,” came out of retirement to star in the titular role.
After having no luck acquiring distribution, Camp formed his own distribution company Mulberry Square Releasing in 1974 to distribute the film himself. “Benji” would go on to gross almost $40 million ($250 million after inflation).
Camp would follow up the original with “For the Love of Benji” in 1977 and “Oh! Heavenly Dog” in 1980, which starred Chevy Chase...

Joe Camp, who wrote, produced and directed a series of films and TV shows that elevated a pooch stage-named Benji to Hollywood’s canine pantheon alongside Lassie and Rin Tin Tin, died today at his Tennessee home. He was 84.
His death was announced by his son, the director Brandon Camp, who told Deadline that his father died after a prolonged illness at his home in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, surrounded by family.
In addition to the long-lasting Benji franchise that began in 1974 and would continue well into the 21st Century, Camp co-wrote and directed Hawmps!, the 1976 Western comedy that replaced horses with camels, and 1979’s The Double McGuffin, a mystery film starring Ernest Borgnine and George Kennedy.
While he also wrote a series of books about horses, including the popular The Soul of a Horse and Why Horses Are Barefoot, Camp’s most enduring contribution to Hollywood was and remains the...

Joe Camp, the writer, director and producer who taught that old dog Hollywood new tricks about animal movies as the creative force behind the 1974 franchise-spawning Benji, has died. He was 84.
Camp died Friday morning at his home in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, following a long illness, his son, filmmaker Brandon Camp, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Camp also directed and co-wrote the comedies Hawmps! (1976), about the U.S. Cavalry replacing horses with camels in the 1850s, and The Double McGuffin (1979), which revolved around kids trying to thwart a terrorist (Ernest Borgnine) and featured lots of in-jokes about Hitchcock movies.
Other than serving as an extra on the Robert Mitchum-starring Home From the Hill (1960), Camp had no Hollywood experience when he raised about $500,000 to make Benji, a story about a stray mixed breed — not a fancy pure breed like Lassie! — who helps rescue two youngsters from kidnappers.

Throughout its six season run, "Community" encountered a genuinely impressive set of challenges. First of all, series creator, Dan Harmon, was kicked off his own show, which considering his behavior wasn't all that shocking. An admitted heavy drinker, Harmon also became notorious for what The Hollywood Reporter referred to as his "eleventh-hour rewrites, or 'Harmon passes,'" which he would foist upon the cast and crew during filming. Harmon also fell out with star Chevy Chase, and the show was known for its long shooting days and erratic schedule. No wonder Alison Brie described the "Community" set as "frantic, frenetic, chaotic"
Then, there was the constant threat of cancellation, which loomed over "Community" until the show was actually canceled by NBC after its fifth season. Yahoo's then-new streaming service, Yahoo! Screen, picked up the show for its sixth and final season that seemed destined to fail. And fail it did.

Actor Joel McHale reflected on an altercation he had with his fellow Community co-star Chevy Chase that occurred on the set.
McHale, known for his main character role as Jeff Winger on the TV series, has been candid about disagreements that reportedly transpired between himself and Chase, who played the controversial offensive character Pierce Hawthorne. McHale even dedicated a chapter of his 2016 memoir, Thanks for the Money, to a “step-by-step on how to fight Chevy Chase.”
The topic arose in the podcast conversation when McHale highlighted his willingness to address the conflicts that arose with Chase while they were on the show. When asked about the nature of the incidents, McHale revealed that physical altercations did occur, with instances where one shoved or pushed the other. McHale described the confrontations as “advanced horseplay,” and humorously remarked, “You know, horseplay, and then it always turned into sex. It wasn’t fun.

Although “Community” has remained a cult favorite show since its 2009 debut, Chevy Chase, one of the series’ stars, has been very vocal that he didn’t enjoy making it. Similarly, fellow cast member Joel McHale hasn’t been afraid to slam Chase in the press. Yet their on-set feud turned physical too, with one ending when McHale injured the veteran comedian.
McHale was a guest on a recent episode of Michael Rosenbaum’s “Inside of You” podcast, where he described a section of his 2016 memoir “Thanks for the Money” which included a “step by step on how to fight Chevy Chase.”
When Rosenbaum asked if their on-set altercations were verbal or physical, McHale confirmed there were multiple physical incidents.
“It was an advanced horseplay,” he said, joking, “You know, horseplay, and then it always turned into sex.”
From there, he described the reality of the situation, saying, “It would get a little contentious.

Six seasons and a movie -- it's finally happening!
A Community movie is apparently in the works, with star Joel McHale stating the film will begin shooting in 2024.
It's been nine years since we last saw our favorite Greendale Human Beings, and we have a lot of questions about the upcoming film. Here's everything we know so far about the Community movie.
Community Movie Release Date
There has been a lot of back and forth about whether a Community movie would ever be made. With the famous "six seasons and a movie" line from the show, fans have long held out hope.
In September 2022, Peacock ordered a Community movie. However, series creator Dan Harmon later expressed concern that the movie wouldn't happen at all despite being "nearly done" with the script.
In January 2023, Joel McHale said the movie would be filming that summer, but production was canceled due to the actor and writer strikes.

The 2007 John C. Reilly comedy Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story has become a cult hit in recent years, largely as a result of the skill with which it dissects and eviscerates the genre it satirizes.
The film so deftly laid bare the tropes and cliches of the rock star biopic that many predicted it would forever change the way filmmakers approached stories about dead celebs.
And for a while, it seemed like the trick had worked.
Leaving aside for a moment any discussion about the quality of these films, there's no denying that Elvis, Blonde, Maestro, Jackie, Priscilla, and Oppenheimer all offered new takes on a very familiar subgenre.
(That last one, admittedly, is a bit of an outlier, as we're not sure if a theoretical physicist -- even one who altered the course of world history -- can properly be called a celebrity.)

If you’ve been keeping up with The Test of Time, you have probably learned what the rules are in terms of what we tackle. Those rules, of course, are that there are no rules whatsoever and we cover whatever sounds good or we think would be an interesting topic. In the Mouth of Madness (watch it Here) came out in Italy in late 1994 and that means, gulp, that movie is now 30 years old. Whether you want a feel-good escape from reality or to embroil yourself in drama you would never experience in your daily life, TV has got you covered.

The Curious Case of Queer Eye Season 8
Typically, when a new season of Queer Eye drops on Netflix, I'm on it like Antoni Porowski on the weird food in someone's fridge. But when Season 8 premiered on Netflix on January 24, the urge to binge was missing. So was the spark.

Although collecting physical media doesn’t have the convenience appeal of streaming films, there is now sort of a stigma with purchasing movies through online platforms. Although its possible to compile a collection of movies through an online library, consumers will ultimately be at the whim of the service should it choose to keep the title available on their server. Additionally, there are a number of titles that don’t happen to find their way to have streaming access and physical media distributors like Shout and Vinegar Syndrome have dedicated their business to some overlooked titles.

Surely the making of one of the funniest movies ever made can’t be that serious…and it really isn’t! Ok, 1980’s Airplane! was a tough sell and there were minor clashes between the directors and Paramount and lawsuits from a rival studio threatened the casting of numerous stars. But there was also perfect against-type casting, clever workarounds to silly DGA regulations and a complete reinvention of the spoof movie, all of which made Airplane! one of the greatest comedies ever.. Oh, and there were fart machines, too!
And so let’s park the taxi, avoid the fish and check in on our drinking problem as we find out: Wtf Happened to this movie?!
Airplane! has its origins in the Kentucky Fried Theater, which the trio of David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker (collectively known as Zaz) founded in 1971. One act the fellas grew fond of was dubbing...

The Community feature film is finally moving forward, and cast member Donald Glover says the script is complete.
For quite a few years now, there hav been talks of a film adaptation of cult American sitcom Community, which ran for 110 episodes over six seasons between 2009 and 2015. It pays off a meta joke originated by film buff Abed in an early season when he is obsessed with a superhero show. When Jeff criticises it and says it’ll be cancelled after a few weeks, Abed boldly exclaims “six seasons and a movie!”
That, as Community fans well know, then became something of a mantra going forward.
The show focused on an eclectic group of students at a community college in Colorado. It quickly became a fan favourite, with praise going to the chemistry of the cast and the sharp writing and directing. It was on Community that future Marvel directors Joe...
