Cynthia Nixon Responds To Satc Spinoff Criticism. (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Cynthia Nixon is unperturbed by the criticism surrounding the “Sex and the City” spinoff, “And Just Like That.” During the 90th Annual Drama League Awards on Friday, May 17, the 58-year-old actress shared why she is not dismayed by the hate hurled toward the spinoff.
Cynthia Nixon portrayed Miranda Hobbes in “Sex and The City” for all six seasons before reprising her role for the spinoff “And Just Like That” in 2021. While Sex and The City left an indelible mark in pop culture history, its successor “And Just Like That” has failed to ingratiate itself with the audience, who often highlight the show’s shortcomings compared to its predecessor.
However, Cynthia Nixon told page six that she’s unperturbed by the hate, noting that viewers were just as harsh on the Og series when it premiered in 1998. She said, “I feel...

The main gag of John Carpenter's 1986 fantasy flick "Big Trouble in Little China" is that the sidekick seems to think he's the main character. The main character of the story is Wang Chi (Dennis Dun), a restaurant owner who cannot wait to meet his fiancée Miao Yin (Suzee Pai). Miao Yin, however, is kidnapped by the Lords of Death, a San Francisco street gang. Wang follows them to Chinatown hoping to rescue his fiancée, only to discover that she was passed to David Lo Pan (James Hong), an ancient Chinese sorcerer who aims to sacrifice her on a magical alter and break a ghostly curse he suffers from. Wang gathers old friends, each of them possessing knowledge of magic and ancient Chinese sorcery, to trek into the magical underworld in order to defeat Lo Pan and rescue Miao Yin.

Kurt Russell and John Carpenter make a great team. The two first worked together on the TV movie "Elvis," and then went on to make "Escape From New York," "Escape From L.A.," "The Thing," and of course, "Big Trouble in Little China." "Big Trouble" isn't a horror movie or even your typical John Carpenter flick. It's a pulpy action-comedy that sees Russell playing buffoonish truck driver Jack Burton, who gets roped into becoming a very clumsy hero to fight a trio of ancient gods and an evil sorcerer. The movie is an absolute blast from beginning to end, and Russell is clearly having a lot of fun playing Burton, a character who thinks he's the hero when he's really more like a glorified sidekick to his friend Wang Chi (Dennis Dun).
Russell and Carpenter worked together well over the years, with Russell seemingly bringing out the best in Carpenter and vice versa.

"Cheers" was the third highest-rated show on television when Shelley Long opted to quit the series at the end of its fifth season and pursue movie stardom. Though the show had long since settled into its ensemble groove, the on-again/off-again Sam Malone and Diane Chambers romance was the primary generator of water-cooler chatter. Moreover, the chemistry between Long and Ted Danson was the stuff of a series showrunner's dream. Their banter was worthy of Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. You don't just go out and find another Katharine Hepburn. Could "Cheers," brilliant and popular as it was, survive Long's departure, especially when fans had so much invested in Diane?
This was the conundrum faced by casting director Jeff Greenberg, who'd joined "Cheers" during Long's last season. He knew chasing the next Long was courting disaster, so he looked for an actor who could hold her own with Danson and...

Cynthia Nixon is detailing a scrapped Sex and the City scene that was shot similarly to Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 horror film Psycho.
The actress, who reprised her role as Miranda for And Just Like That, a revival of the hit series, shared on the latest episode of the Dinner’s on Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson podcast why the episode ultimately had to be reshot.
“[It’s] in that episode where Miranda’s not having sex but she’s eating a lot of chocolate cake and she tries to buy a whole cake and it’s like $80 and she’s like, ‘This is ridiculous. I’m not going to spend $80,’” Nixon said of the scene. “So she goes and buys like a Duncan Hines mix and makes herself a cake. And then she can’t stop eating it. Sex and the City has been a trailblazing staple of the small screen since it first debuted in 2008 on HBO, but that doesn’t mean all of it holds up upon modern review. There is some serious debate right now as to whether Gen Z viewers who might discover the show anew — now that it’s streaming in full on Netflix — will enjoy what the show has to offer the way millennials and Gen X-ers did when it was still on air. The show follows four single women — Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) — living in Manhattan, partying, and having lots of sex. For those who grew up on HBO’s oft-compared female-centered follow-up Girls, this might not seem so revolutionary, but at the time, it was. That being said, though the show was progressive in many areas at the time,...

Sex and the City was a smash hit for HBO. Premiering in 1998, the series ran for six seasons, spawned two movies (although we'd prefer to forget that the second one ever came out), and a prequel series (The Carrie Diaries on The CW).
And while there was great excitement over And Just Like That..., the reboot was somewhat marred from the outset with the harassment allegations against Chris Noth, the lack of Samantha (Kim Cattrall), and the introduction of the polarizing Che Diaz.
The series has expanded its circle of friends from the original, bringing in Seema, Nya, and Lisa as foils and sidekicks for Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte, respectively.
Long-time fans enjoyed seeing Anthony find a new partner and learning more about Stanford's life in Japan. Season 2 of And Just Like That... also saw much growth from our leading ladies.
Carrie found and then lost Aidan, at least for the time being.

Seasons change, and so do cities. One thing that doesn’t? Fans’ enduring love for “Sex and the City,” the HBO comedy that premiered in 1998.
Endlessly spoofed but also deeply, earnestly loved by millions (there are honestly very fun location tours in NYC running several times a week) the groundbreaking series wrapped its original six-season, 94-episode run in 2004, with a not-terrible, not-great 2008 feature film and a truly terrible sequel following in 2010. Most of us have quietly curtailed our lockdown hobbies, but internet creator Teigan Reamsbottom is still getting up at 4 a.m. to curate camp-classic pop culture video clips. He also does his best to improve the video quality using a dedicated gaming computer he’s stuffed full of Ram and a software suite that uses machine-learning algorithms to preserve the clips’ original characteristics.
In a world where movies can be vanished for tax write-offs and physical media can be scarce, it’s heartening to see pop-culture artifacts unearthed — even if it means that no ’80s or ’90s celebrity is safe.

It’s been 26 years since Sex and the Citydebuted on HBO and changed not only the television landscape but also the way we think and talk about sex, relationships, and fashion. Created by Darren Star and based on Candace Bushnell’s wildly popular columns turned book, the show aired from 1998–2004, redefining women’s relationships to men, friends, cupcakes, shoes, and singlehood itself, as I write in my book Sex and the City and Us. And while their stories keep coming in the spin-off And Just Like That…, the original remains the gold standard of glamorous single woman TV: Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) are still the friends we love to laugh and cry with, roll our eyes and cringe at, go clubbing and shopping with. So, with all six seasons of Sex and the City now streaming on Netflix, raise a...

March 17, 1951 was a great day in history, because that the day Kurt Russell entered the world. And while he would go on to become one of the biggest icons of the eighties and nineties, many folks don’t know that Russell started as a child star for Disney, even acting opposite his future life partner Goldie Hawn in The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band (1968). From the sixties into the seventies, he starred in Disney flicks like The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969), but as the studio’s movies started to flop and Russell got older, a change of pace was needed. Arguably, Russell’s career took off when he began working with director John Carpenter, with the first movie being 1979’s TV movie Elvis, but what are Kurt Russell’s best movies? To celebrate his 73rd birthday, let’s dig into them here.

Sarah Jessica Parker has been synonymous with Sex and the City‘s Carrie Bradshaw. But just because she’s played her for so long, doesn’t mean she’s the only character she might have a connection to.
How Sarah Jessica Parker related to these ‘Sex and the City’ characters Sarah Jessica Parker | Jose Perez/Bauer-Griffin/Gc Images`
Parker once shared she had a few similarities with Carrie Bradshaw, but quite a few differences as well. Parker related to Carrie’s fascination with people, and the character’s enjoyment of the New York City life. But those might’ve been where the similarities ended, as Parker couldn’t relate to Carrie’s specific lifestyle. Carrie’s obsession with luxury fashion and her promiscuity were all things that Parker couldn’t agree with.
“I think there’s not a lot about Carrie that is actually similar to my life. Our choices have been so radically different.

And Just Like That… fans won’t see pictures from the set for another couple of months, but that isn’t stopping them from speculating about what is to come in season 3 of the Sex and the City reboot. After the surprise ending of season 2, complete with a cameo by Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones, anything could happen. With a recent Instagram post, Cattrall has ignited rumors that she might return to reprise her iconic role.
Kim Cattrall ignites rumors after using Samantha Jones on her Instagram
Kim Cattrall broke the hearts of Sex and the City fans when she did not reprise her role as Samantha Jones in the reboot. It was understandable why she didn’t return—years of feud rumors and open hostility from Cattrall about her co-star, Sarah Jessica Parker, made it clear that she did not find her time on the show fulfilling. The results are in on the 2024 Razzie Awards, and it was a very big (but not necessarily great) night for one movie and one actress this year.
The annual awards show, which took place one day before the 2024 Oscars on Saturday (March 9), hands out awards to performers and movies that have been deemed the “worst.”
Going into the ceremony, Expend4bles led the pack of nominees with 7 nods in categories such as Worst Picture and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off of Sequel.
However, when it came time for the awards to be handed out, another movie swept the field, picking up five Razzies. One actress also won big, being named Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress.
However, one Hollywood icon received redemption this year!

Slasher film Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey swept the five categories it was nominated in for at the 44th annual Razzies, which “honor” the worst of filmmaking. The awards were announced today.
‘Winnie the Pooh’ won the Razzie in the picture, director, screenplay, screen couple and remake/rip-off/sequel categories. The film, based on the beloved children’s literary character, follows Pooh and Piglet, who have become feral and bloodthirsty murderers. They terrorize a group of young university women and the returning Christopher Robin.
The Razzie Redeemer Award, bestowed on a past contender who has “gone on to better things” since being nominated for a Razzie, went to “The Nanny” actor and SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher for her leadership during the 2023 actor strike.
Drescher was nominated in 1998 for worst actress in the romantic comedy film The Beautician and the Beast.

Awards season tends to give movie fans all of the glitz and glamor that we love about Hollywood…That is, until it doesn’t. As is tradition, the weekend of the 96th Academy Awards also saw the industry honoring the worst in motion pictures, with the Golden Raspberry Awards aka the Razzies giving out statues to the likes of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, Sylvester Stallone and Megan Fox.
While Expend4bles had the most nominations going into this year’s Razzies with seven, it was Blood and Honey – which popularized a hopefully limited trend of public domain horror – that won the most with five.
Here is the full list of Razzie Award winners:
Worst Picture
The Exorcist: Believer
Expend4bles
Meg 2: The Trench
Shazam! Fury of the Gods
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey – Winner
Worst Actor
Russell Crowe, The Pope’s Exorcist
Vin Diesel, Fast X

No April Fools’ Day joke here: Sex and the City really will be joining the Netflix library on April 1. Fans learned earlier this winter that the HBO comedy would be streaming on Netflix sometime next month, and in an X post on Saturday, the streamer revealed April 1 as the premiere date. That means Netflix users will soon see Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Kim Cattrall navigate love and life in New York City as Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha in all 94 episodes of the hit show. But Max subscribers need not worry: Sex and the City will continue to stream on Warner Bros. Sex and the City has landed a premiere date on Netflix.
All six seasons of the hit HBO series, which have previously only been available on Max, will now be streaming on Netflix for the first time starting April 1 (Satc will still be available on HBO’s streaming service as well).
The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that HBO parent company Warner Bros. Discovery made a content agreement with Netflix last July, which included a licensing deal for several series. Other shows that were part of the deal included Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Six Feet Under, Ballers, Insecure and True Blood.
In less than one month, all 94 episodes of the original hit show, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall, will hit Netflix. Satc, which debuted in 1998, follows the lives of four women living in New York City as they navigate love, friendship and sex in the big city,...

It’s not an April Fool’s joke – Sex and the City is bowing on Netflix on April 1.
The series is one of HBO’s most important library titles and has a modern spinoff series in And Just Like That… The latter remains exclusive to Max.
Deadline revealed last June that Warner Bros. Discovery struck a deal to license a number of titles to Netflix, including Insecure, Ballers, and Six Feet Under.
Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos has signaled that he is looking for more licensed content.
“I believe because of our distribution heft and our recommendation system that sometimes we can uniquely add more value to the studio’s IP than they can,” Sarandos told investors last year. “Not all the time, but sometimes it does, and we are the best buyer for it. But what happens when the world you see onscreen is overshadowed by what's going on behind the cameras?

In the 1980s, Hollywood didn’t quite know what to do with Rutger Hauer. The actor broke out in a pretty major way following his acclaimed turn in Paul Verhoeven’s Soldier of Orange, paving the way for his American debut in the Sylvester Stallone thriller Nighthawks, where he played the villain Wulfgar. His performance as Roy Batty in Blade Runner blew people away, and for a while, it looked like he might become the next big Hollywood heartthrob, especially when he signed on to star in the epic adventure film Ladyhawke opposite Michelle Pfeiffer for Richard Donner.
But major stardom didn’t happen? Why? Perhaps it was because the movies of Hauer’s that did best at the box office were the ones where he played the villain, such as The Hitcher. He was so unforgettable as a bad guy that when he played a hero, such as in...

Sex and the City expanded its audience and its story with its 2008 feature named after the series. But the film’s star, Sarah Jessica Parker, felt the second movie had an element to it that the first lacked.

The first Sex and the City feature was such a success that it spawned a second highly profitable movie. But Sex and the City 2 was very different from the first film. The movie would follow the girls halfway across the world in Abu Dhabi, away from their familiar playground in New York City. The film’s director Michael Patrick King, who also produced the show, intentionally did so to separate it from the first feature.
“My inspiration for this movie was the audience at the first movie,” King once told Collider.

And just like that, "Sex and the City" is being licensed to Netflix by Warner Bros. Discovery, parent company of HBO and the owner of its own streaming service, Max. Sara Ramirez, who plays Che Diaz on the popular HBO series And Just Like That, has been dropped by executives – but the reason remains mysterious.
Ramirez, a non-binary actor, rose to fame with their role in Grey’s Anatomy. Ramirez posted on their Instagram on Tuesday confirming that they would not be returning to the show.
Ramirez claimed that the dropping of the character was due to their political stances and pro-Palestinian opinions, saying, “casting directors and agents are making black lists of actors and workers who post anything in support of Palestinians and Gaza to ensure they will not work again.”
Fans of the show, however, have been divided on Che for a while, with many seeing the role as “annoying” and “a waste of airtime.”
Last season was notable for the return of Kim Cattrall to the series – if only for one minute – for which she was reportedly paid $1 million.

Before she was seen online dancing with knives, Britney Spears was on a bigger screen. Now, her first film role, Crossroads, is finally coming to Netflix.
The 2002 film will hit the streamer on Feb. 15. The movie hasn’t been on streaming platforms or available from digital retailers since its release.
Crossroads features Spears as “Lucy,” a character who reunites with her childhood best friends Kit (Zoë Saldana) and Mimi (Taryn Manning). A cross-country road trip ensues with Mimi’s friend Ben (Anson Mount).
The film was written by Shonda Rhimes. It returned to theaters last year for two nights in October to coincide with the release of Spears’ memoir, The Woman in Me.

Netflix and Amazon now produce over half of their content internationally, an inflection point from traditional U.S.-centric production to a more diversified and growing global approach.

The Decline in U.S. Commissioning and Production
A discernible downturn in U.S. commissioning and production activity has been evident since the latter half of 2022, predating notable industry disruptions such as the strikes. Full year comparison of the number of scripted shows produced for 2023 against the average of the previous two years shows a 38% decline. Carrie Bradshaw and the rest of the “Sex and the City” coterie are heading to a binge-watching date on Netflix.
Netflix has inked a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to license all six seasons of the popular HBO dramedy, comprising all 94 episodes, Variety confirmed. “Sex and the City” will land on Netflix in early April 2024.
The deal is not worldwide: The series will be available in the U.S. and several other European markets, sources familiar with the pact said. In addition, the deal does not include the two “Satc” feature-length films, nor does it include the recent spin-off “And Just Like That,” which is currently streaming only on Wbd’s Max.
In “Sex and the City,” which originally aired on HBO from 1998-2004, Sarah Jessica Parker stars as Bradshaw, a New York writer who “finds inspiration for her column from the genuine, emotional and often humorous exploits of her friends and lovers.

Updated: And just like that, Netflix is close to tying up another major content licensing deal.
Netflix will start streaming Sex and the City as early as April after reaching an agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery, Deadline has confirmed.
A deal for Sex and the City would be a major coup for Netflix. It is one of HBO’s most important library titles and has a modern spinoff series in the shape of And Just Like That… The latter is set to remain exclusive to Max.
For Netflix, these licensing deals can unlock old titles to many millions of its members, as was seen with Suits, which became the hottest show of last summer. For Warner Bros. Discovery, licensing is increasingly seen as a way of sweating its assets as Netflix cements its dominance in the streaming game.

“Crossroads,” Britney Spears’ first starring role in feature film, will be available on Netflix globally starting Feb. 15, the streamer announced.
The movie premiered on that same day in 2002, while Spears was fresh off the success of “Oops…I Did It Again” and “Baby One More Time” and had become the most commercially successful teenage music artist of all time.
Featuring her song “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,” the film starred Spears as Lucy. The movie covered topics such as teen pregnancy, rape and childhood abandonment. The cult favorite also starred Zoë Saldana, Taryn Manning, Dan Akroyd, Beverly Johnson and Kim Cattrall. “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Bridgerton” creator Shonda Rhimes wrote the film, which was directed by Tamra Davis. The mostly female production team was a rare occurrence for the time.

Expend4bles tops the not-so-coveted list of Razzie Award nominations this year, with seven chances to take home a dubious honor.
Tying for a close second were The Exorcist: Believer and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, each receiving five noms.
“After strikes, lingerings of a worldwide plague and a general sense of universal agoraphobia, the decline of the cinematic experience goes without saying,” Razzie organizers said in announcing today’s nominations. “Thankfully, a doll pic and a bomb movie jump-started The Industry, which still left a trail of Pooh behind for the Razzies to pick up!”
This year’s acting contenders feature former Oscar winners Jon Voight, Russell Crowe and Dame Helen Mirren, as well as Razzie Repeat Offenders Sylvester Stallone, Megan Fox and Jennifer Lopez.
Results were determined by the votes of Razzie Members. Five top contenders were chosen in each of nine categories. The 44th annual Razzie “Winners” (for whom there will literally be no red carpet) will be unveiled on the now traditional “Oscar Eve,” Saturday, March 9.

Awards season is here, which means it is also time for the annual Golden Raspberry Awards. The Razzies, which aims to (dis)honor the least successful films of the year, has announced nominations for its 44th edition.
The most-nominated film is “Expend4bles,” the fourth entry in the action-packed, but critically underwhelming, “The Expendables” franchise. It received seven nominations. Tied for second place with five noms are “The Exorcist: Believer,” the revival of the classic horror series, and “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” a blood-soaked take on everyone’s favorite honey-loving bear. Two big-budget superhero movies, DC’s “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” and Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” both got four nominations.
Last year, Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde” led the competition with eight nominations, going on to bag the prize for worst picture. The group also felt compelled to issue an apology last year after nominating then-...

Expend4bles leads the nominees for the Golden Raspberry Awards — aka the Razzies — which were unveiled Monday morning.
The film earned seven nominations for the Razzie Awards, which honor the worst of the year and are announced annually ahead of the Oscars noms announcement, which takes place Tuesday morning.
Expend4bles is one of five movies competing for “worst picture” of the year. The nominees in that category, along with the Razzies’ comments, are:
— The Exorcist: Believer: “a 50-years-later remake/rip-off that was horrifying in unintended ways”
— Expend4bles: “another installment of a franchise that’s fading faster than Razzie ‘winner’ Donald Trump’s mental acuity”
— Meg 2: The Trench: “a fishy tale about a snarky shark that flopped across all seven seas”
— Shazam! Fury of the Gods: “one of 2023’s several comic book movies failing to save the superhero genre”
— Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey: “a...
